Recognition for the work that carers do

Recognition for the work that carers do

Hello people in Carers Forum Land. I've never ventured over here from the lived experience forum and I'm feeling all shy. However, this article landed in my inbox this morning and I thought it would be of interest over here. I don't actually have any family or friends myself, but I know that carers do an amazing job in supporting those that they love. If anyone here does happen to feel like adopting someone with Borderline Personality Disorder, I'm open to it. I mean, what could be more fun than having someone (or another someone) with BPD in your life! Here's the link to the article: http://theconversation.com/heres-how-much-it-would-cost-the-government-to-pay-everyone-who-takes-care-of-family-with-mental-illness-74760?utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=Latest%20from%20The%20Conversation%20for%20March%2023%202017%20-%2070265274&utm_content=Latest%20from%20The%20Conversation%20for%20March%2023%202017%20-%2070265274+CID_3e0041eadb6d09286518efab7811c5a4&utm_source=campaign_monitor&utm_term=Heres%20how%20much%20it%20would%20cost%20the%20government%20to%20pay%20everyone%20who%20takes%20care%20of%20family%20with%20mental%20illness

It's ok @Shaz51. I'm super turtle. I am perfectly capable of flying myself, provided the conditions are right.

@Phoenix_Rising

Know what you mean about dogs and their different personalities. We have whippets, beautiful gentle dogs, the boys seem to be more cuddly than the girls. However I have never met one that barks as much as our latest girl. She was underweight when we got her from the breeder and it took a long time for her to settle and I wondered if she might have been mistreated as she was very scared of Mr Darcy. She was a lot better with him after he came home from a 4 month hospital stay. I think that Mr Darcy needs a dog in his life and cannot see that we would ever be without one. Caught up with friends on Monday of the long weekend.

P.S. @Phoenix_Rising

Didn't need to venture across to the other side to see how awesome you are, but did and am so glad that I did. Well done you.

I might need to get some assistance from you before I suffer from foot in mouth. I thought Rockpool was a bloke but from your hand bag comments find out she is a she (or alternatively a cross dresser). There are others too- froginthepond, fancypants etc. Am happy to ask direct but don't want to embarrass anyone.

@Former-Member ROFL.

Rockpool is definitely female. I also know that Lunar, Pebbles and NikNik are female. I don't know about any of the overnight / weekend moderators though as I haven't had a lot to do with them. I wouldn't fret about asking them - there really is no way to know based on most of the names around here. Someone referred to me as "he" the other day. It just made me giggle. The vast majority of forumites on the Lived Experience forum are female. I wonder if it is the same over here in Carers' land. When I was at uni, almost all the people on the online forum were female and I got the sense then that online forums in general are female dominated...though I guess it would depend on the nature of the forum.

BTW I was excited that you read about my adventure on the "I'm awesome" thread. The adventure really did lift my mood enormously. It is far too long since I last experienced the empowered feeling. It really can make a world of difference!

I hope you are having a nice weekend and that you made it home safely from our FF in France last night.

Re: Recognition for the work that carers do

Thanks for that @Phoenix_Rising

There are only two regular FFs I have thought of as being blokes Jacques and The Vortican.

From what I can tell on the carer side most are female, there are only a few blokes. The vast majority of carers on this forum care for their offspring with or without the support of a partner. There are just a few of us who care for their significant others.

Feeling empowered IS great ... on that note, will possibly be seeing clinical director this week for further follow up.

Thanks for your help P_R
