Recognition for the work that carers do

Recognition for the work that carers do

Hello people in Carers Forum Land. I've never ventured over here from the lived experience forum and I'm feeling all shy. However, this article landed in my inbox this morning and I thought it would be of interest over here. I don't actually have any family or friends myself, but I know that carers do an amazing job in supporting those that they love. If anyone here does happen to feel like adopting someone with Borderline Personality Disorder, I'm open to it. I mean, what could be more fun than having someone (or another someone) with BPD in your life! Here's the link to the article: http://theconversation.com/heres-how-much-it-would-cost-the-government-to-pay-everyone-who-takes-care-of-family-with-mental-illness-74760?utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=Latest%20from%20The%20Conversation%20for%20March%2023%202017%20-%2070265274&utm_content=Latest%20from%20The%20Conversation%20for%20March%2023%202017%20-%2070265274+CID_3e0041eadb6d09286518efab7811c5a4&utm_source=campaign_monitor&utm_term=Heres%20how%20much%20it%20would%20cost%20the%20government%20to%20pay%20everyone%20who%20takes%20care%20of%20family%20with%20mental%20illness

Tough week @Phoenix_Rising but we press on, Mr Darcy really anxious and upset about needing surgery. If you google "turtle funny car" you will find a picture that I was too embarrassed to post on the feast.

Hi @Former-Member,

I'm sorry to hear Mr Darcy is struggling at the moment. Things are a bit stormy in my world this week too. I googled turtle funny car and I can't decide which image you were too embarressed to post. Was it the cartoon one about locking the keys in the car? I would definitely post that.

@Phoenix_Rising Here is the turtle car, might just be me, but reckon it is just a bit too unusual.

Sorry to hear things are a bit stormy, I hope that you have been able to make progress on the marking in spite of this.

BTW saw your message from the hot chocolate thread. Am always happy to explain the way I feel about any topic if you want a carer point of view, subject to forum rules, no topic is off limit.

Darcy

Yes @Former-Member - I have that on my iPad and have watched other episodes that way. Thanks for mentioning it.

Hi @Former-Member and @soul,

Hee hee, I would super love that car @Former-Member. I can just imagine myself driving around Sydney in it. And how much easier would it be to find in the carpark compared to my current boringly silver oh-so-common make of car!!!!

I watched the episode of Australia story online today. I would desperately like to be able to see Tony Attwood as a therapist. He has written a lot of stuff on how ASD presents in girls and women. I was listening to a podcast of him a few years ago and in it he talked about how a lot of women with ASD are misdiagnosed with BPD. I remember sitting bolt upright in bed and thinking "wow." As I kept putting the pieces of my puzzle together, I figured out that a dual diagnosis of BPD and ASD best describes my muddle. However, I am certain that there are a LOT of female aspies out there who are currently undiagnosed and living with a BPD label instead...and consequently not "getting better" from BPD.
