Recognition for the work that carers do

Recognition for the work that carers do

Hello people in Carers Forum Land. I've never ventured over here from the lived experience forum and I'm feeling all shy. However, this article landed in my inbox this morning and I thought it would be of interest over here. I don't actually have any family or friends myself, but I know that carers do an amazing job in supporting those that they love. If anyone here does happen to feel like adopting someone with Borderline Personality Disorder, I'm open to it. I mean, what could be more fun than having someone (or another someone) with BPD in your life! Here's the link to the article: http://theconversation.com/heres-how-much-it-would-cost-the-government-to-pay-everyone-who-takes-care-of-family-with-mental-illness-74760?utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=Latest%20from%20The%20Conversation%20for%20March%2023%202017%20-%2070265274&utm_content=Latest%20from%20The%20Conversation%20for%20March%2023%202017%20-%2070265274+CID_3e0041eadb6d09286518efab7811c5a4&utm_source=campaign_monitor&utm_term=Heres%20how%20much%20it%20would%20cost%20the%20government%20to%20pay%20everyone%20who%20takes%20care%20of%20family%20with%20mental%20illness

@Phoenix_Rising

How are things going with you? Hope they are going swimmingly. Trust the puddy tats are well. Has it been warm enough for you to venture into the garden?

Got the final response in relation to my concerns, now have to decide if I go to the health complaints commissioner. Am hoping to get some advice from a mental health advocacy group to see if I have any hope of success esp as Mr Darcy was under a treatment order. If the group think it is possible, I am thinking I will go for it.

Take care
Darcy

Hi @Former-Member, Sorry I've been a bit missing-in-action from here. Last week in our virtual yoga class I was giving away baby goats to everyone who did the pose for the day (a totally hair-brain idea by Lunar!!!). It was super funny...but ridiculously time consuming. And now this week I've got my second-ever marking gig happening - again, very time consuming.

That lava mudcake looks AMAZING!!!!!!

I hope you are able to have your voice heard at the health complaints commission. I think that would be super empowering. I'm not sure how familiar you are with my story, but I was in a complicated relationship with my psychologist of sixteen years. I would very much like to make a complaint against him but alas, the situation is such that a totally innocent bystander would get drawn into the mess and I am not ok with that. I do know from suing the church where I was abused though, how super validating it can be to have a wrong acknowledged at a high level.

The weather has been amazing here in Sydney over the past week.

Therapist-take-twelve has turned out to be a super awesome match and she does seem to have become christened the turtle whisperer here in Forum Land. I am so very grateful that I finally found a good match and I am hopeful that things will really start to stabilise now.

I hope you and Mr Darcy are having a good week. Hopefully I will see you at Friday Feast tomorrow.

Really good to hear you have got another marking job and that T12 is going well.

I like the idea of a single serve cake but I am not a brownie person as they taste a bit uncooked to me and I am half wondering if this one might be a bit like that.

I know the forums can take a bit of time and I have been trying to limit my time on too.

Mr Darcy sees ortho tomorrow, hoping they can do something relatively quickly so he gets relief from the pain he is experiencing. Hoping to get a couple of things done whilst in town, desperately need a new pair of jeans and another top. I can also get some Asian groceries that I cannot get locally. We'll see how Mr D holds up as to how much I can do.

Have not heard back from the group I have sought advice from in relation to my complaint. I might call them next week if I have not heard. I really do not know what to say when I hear of the terrible things that you (and others) experienced, it is just so heart breaking and somehow my concerns seem so trivial (relate to medications given). It is one of the reasons I rarely venture to the LE side, my heart can only take so much.

If you and they are amenable, can you give the puddy tats a good scratch under the chin from me.

Darcy

@Phoenux_Rising
Groups of Americans were traveling by tour bus through Switzerland .As they stopped at a cheese farm, a young guide led them through the process of cheese making, explaining that goat's milk was used. She showed the group a lovely hillside where many goats were grazing.

“These,” she explained, “are the older goats put out to pasture when they no longer produce.” She then asked, “What do you do in America with your old goats?”

A spry old gentleman answered, “They send us on bus tours!”

Hope you have made process with your marking and that you will find it takes a little less time this time round.

Am thinking I will go ahead with my complaint. I am a bit conflicted as I feel that my concerns are justified (am quite confident that my point is too readily provable ... which in itself is a worry as I wonder if I am missing something blatantly obvious) but do not want to be vindictive in any way. I can say this quite honestly, but in one respect I still struggle with not being angry about some things, particularly when direct concerns were not addressed. Feeling fobbed off gets my goat (no, not one of your freebies for doing yogi bear poses). However, if I have success it might be a small step to helping others.

Gather from the yoda thread you might be on holiday or at a conference or something.
Hope it goes well.

Hi @Former-Member, Your goat joke made me giggle.

I don't think your complaint is trivial at all (even though I don't know much of the detail). To me the core issues in "the system" center around basic respect for consumers and carers. Whether a lack of respect is shown through the language used, or an attitude that the "experts" know best, or a failure to genuinely listen to consumers or carers, or through super icky stuff like the use of seclusion etc., it is all fundamentally part of the same problem. So no, I don't think your complaint is trivial at all.

You are correct in thinking that I was off on a change-the-world adventure. It was a super big adventure for this little turtle but it was a lot of fun. I am giving myself permission to take things slow this morning as I deal with the post-adventure slump, and then this afternoon I seriously need to get back to marking these papers. I'm about half way through and I have until next Friday to get them done so it should be fine - so long as I stay off the forums a bit.

It is super sunny, albeit very windy, here in Sydney today. I hope it is nice where you are.

Perhaps a yoghurt pose between each paper @Phoenix_Rising
