Recognition for the work that carers do

Recognition for the work that carers do

Hello people in Carers Forum Land. I've never ventured over here from the lived experience forum and I'm feeling all shy. However, this article landed in my inbox this morning and I thought it would be of interest over here. I don't actually have any family or friends myself, but I know that carers do an amazing job in supporting those that they love. If anyone here does happen to feel like adopting someone with Borderline Personality Disorder, I'm open to it. I mean, what could be more fun than having someone (or another someone) with BPD in your life! Here's the link to the article: http://theconversation.com/heres-how-much-it-would-cost-the-government-to-pay-everyone-who-takes-care-of-family-with-mental-illness-74760?utm_medium=email&utm_campaign=Latest%20from%20The%20Conversation%20for%20March%2023%202017%20-%2070265274&utm_content=Latest%20from%20The%20Conversation%20for%20March%2023%202017%20-%2070265274+CID_3e0041eadb6d09286518efab7811c5a4&utm_source=campaign_monitor&utm_term=Heres%20how%20much%20it%20would%20cost%20the%20government%20to%20pay%20everyone%20who%20takes%20care%20of%20family%20with%20mental%20illness

Hey @Phoenix_Rising

So glad you are enjoying the yoga classes, it can be daunting going out into unfamiliar situations irrespective of any MI.

Today is a bit ordinary weather wise. Should take the opportunity to do a bit of sorting in our spare room. Have got a few magazines that I was given that could be passed on to the place we go for Mr Darcy's appts - there is a distinct lack there. At home they seem to have spread all over the place and putting them together and passing them on will reduce the clutter by good box or two.

Take care
Darcy

@Phoenix_Rising would these socks be appropriate for your yoga class?

Hey @Phoenix_Rising

Checking in - had a bit of a setback here. Mr Darcy has complications in relation to an injury he sustained in an attempt. He was having increasing pain, we hit his Xray results last week so feeling a bit sad and concerned as he will likely need further surgery and the potential challenges that go with that.

Hope things are steady for you.

Hey @Phoenix_Rising There is a plant called a "turtlehead" botanical name = Chelone glabra

Hi @Former-Member,

ROFL at the socks and the chicken doing yoga! I'm pretty sure everyone in the class already thinks I am quirky with my duck socks so no, I don't think even I would be brave enough to wear those chook socks to yoga!!!

I love that there is a plant called turtle head.

I'm sorry to hear that things are tough with Mr Darcy at the moment. That must be really difficult dealing with ongoing fall-out from an attempt. I am extremely fortunate in that regard - I don't have any physical issues from my attempt (or from my bazillion quasi-attempts).

Things are extremely steady for me at the moment - hooray!!! I had my first session with therapist-take-twelve today and I know I have FINALLY found the right match. This has super settled the waves on the ocean and I am very hopeful that this will be a major turning point for me.

I hope you have an ok week despite the current struggles with Mr Darcy's health.

So pleased to hear that you have got a good gut feeling about T12 @Phoenix_Rising (perhaps to be christened the turtle whisperer if they pass muster?) Really, really pleased that things are steady for you.

I don't know if I told you that after connecting with you I did look up grief in a mental health diagnosis and found a very good article about the matter and I have been able to acknowledge this with Mr Darcy and the feelings he is having. It was very helpful and was another point of learning I am grateful that I was made aware of.

In what for me has also been living grief, I now focus on the many things I can do my little turtle - I can live, I can give, I can love, I can laugh, I can learn, I can grow, I can pray and I can be grateful.
