Something’s not right

Riding a wave

Riding a wave

Hi all,

@CherryBomb, @Former-Member or any other @Former-Member floating around Forum Land, will you ride a wave with me? I thought I would be fine doing something...but it turns out that the something has made my big feelings BIG and now I'm in a pickle...and there's nothing worse than a pickled turtle! I'm going to go and snuggle in my bed so I probably won't actually respond to you, but it will still super help me to know that I am not utterly alone on the wave. I don't want to tag anyone else because I don't want anyone to feel they need to respond. Thank you in advance for riding with me.

Re: Riding a wave

Sigh @Former-Member...

You asked if I see a counsellor or therapist that could help me explore the questions I pose. I have a psychologist. I have been seeing her for seven months. Our sessions generally go like this:

Me: Try to talk about a part of my puzzle.

(A): "Can you tell me more about that?"

Me: Say something else about the puzzle piece.

(A): That must have been so hard for you.

And...that's about it. Exploring, unpacking and meaning-making don't seem to be particular strengths of (A).

I have a psychologist on paper...but do I have one who will actually work with me to unmuddle my muddle? No, I don't. And given the nightmare attempt with therapist-take-eleven two weeks ago, I have no idea how to find one. I feel utterly utterly utterly hopeless.

I miss (K). If only ONLY I could have kept working with her. She was SO GOOD at speaking turtle and being able to help me make sense of the world. If we could have worked on all this stuff, I would be in such a different space now. She SO "got" me. She was so genuine and caring and authentic.

(A) on the other hand is really detached and clinical. The loudest message she has given me is how much she isn't there and how much I can't count on her. I mean seriously, do you even need a psychology degree to recognise that a scrambled attachment system is at the very core of my muddle? The thing I need most in the world is to feel safe...and how do I ever do that when objectively, I am utterly alone here in the real world.

My relationship with (A) is now totally dead in the water. We don't have any sort of therapeutic relationship. There is no genuine connection between us at all. I so badly BADLY want to connect. I so badly want her to move beyond the cliche counsellor one-liners. I so badly want to experience an authentic human connection with her. But alas, I can see it isn't ever going to be. After seven months, I don't feel like she knows the first thing about me. I have a much stronger sense that @Former-Member @Former-Member and @Former-Member actually know me and know my muddle and CARE, than (A) does.

Anyway, please don't anyone try to "fix" this because I can pretty much guarantee that WHATEVER anyone says, is going to just make my big feelings bigger. I just need to know that people hear me and that at least here in Forum Land, I am not alone. Thank you for listening.

Re: Riding a wave

Good morning @Phoenix_Rising. I wanted to come past just to say that I really super like you. I don't think you're weird or creepy. You don't make me feel icky or scared or angry. I don't think there is anything wrong with you and I don't think you're bad. My life is better for having met you and having you in it, even if it has to be in this (sometimes frustrating because I just want to ride trolleys with you) next-best way.

Thank you for being you phoenix_rising and for being the best not-friend there is.

I hope the ocean is calmer today, the 8th of August.

And then I just noticed your post above which was written while I was posting mine @Phoenix_Rising. Here's that frustrating part of this at play. Gotta love posts crossing 😕

Sitting quietly next to you, hearing you and getting it.

Re: Riding a wave

I just had a horrendous session with (A). I feel utterly utterly hopeless and I could very happily put my car into a tree. I want to die today. I won't start the car until the big feelings have settled a bit. I choose to ride the wave. @Former-Member

Re: Riding a wave

@CheerBear super big thank you for your post. I can't be the best not-friend there is because YOU are the best not-friend there is. I super super super like you. @CheerBear the puzzle is that I have had other people who have super liked me in the virtual world, only to freak out and bail out after spending time with me in the real world. This is part of the mystery to me. There were people at uni who I truly thought of as friends, but after we met up in real life, they bailed out really quickly. It is so hard to understand because to me, I am very much the same in the virtual and real world. I really can't make sense of it.

@Former-Member (A) sent me an email which I just saw when I got home. She has said I am thinking of you after this morning's session. I know it was a tough one, it is such a shame that we find it difficult to connect. I really do care, and I am committed to making our sessions helpful for you even if it is just until you find someone else you can connect with better.

Sigh... I super super appreciate the email and I super super appreciate the fact that she knows as well as I do that this therapeutic relationship is about as far from ideal as you can get without tipping over into actual abuse like with Fred. However, our mutual recognition of this doesn't actually fix the problem does it. The thing that would fix it would be for me to find a you or a @Former-Member or a @Former-Member to work with. And how the hell do I do that!!!!!!

I'm going to go and snuggle into @CheerBear's pocket now with Squishy, Mr Seahorse and Dr. Havetodo. At least I can be certain that Dr. Havetodo will do no harm.

I'm a bit of a wounded warrior right now and I need to snuggle for a while, but I will emerge later and I will assume the warrior stance before the day is done. So...if I can do it, there is no excuse at all for anyone else not to. No pressure...but it would make me super happy to hear that lots of people have been warriors today...and who doesn't want to make a little turtle smile.

Re: Riding a wave

@Phoenix_Rising - I've had a really challenging day so far also. I was teetering this morning and tipped over after a phone call (a lovely but very sad one). I have big soul and heart pain right now and am missing my old life so incredibly much. I'm really tired of this life today.

I'm going to lie on the floor for a while with my blanket over me. I found this which I have bookmarked to use with rolled up blankets and towels http://artofyoga.co.uk/yoga-postures-for-fatigue-relief/ . It made me think of all those times you've mentioned lying on your lounge room floor, and all the times I spent curled up as tight as I could in my blanket. I love being a ball in my blanket and it really helps me, but lying like this is helping me also at the moment, so that's what I am about to do.

Just before I put on my 3 o'clock hat, I will pick myself up off the floor and be a wounded warrior for a while also. I hope you smile.

Re: Riding a wave

@CheerBear I am lying on the floor under a blanket where I have been all day. I will click on the link now so that we can be doing this together but not. I am sorry you are having a horrible big feelings day too. I am glad we can be together (but not) in our respective muddles.
