@Bow @Dimity i also just want to gently say that when they closed that discussion they said its coz a "very small number of ppl are concerned with not being heard"
i found this profoundly disturbing
- its well known that ppl are often scared to speak up, specifically in mental health settings
-people do have difficulities complaining - hence the MHWC has this guideline - https://www.mhwc.vic.gov.au/sites/default/files/2025-06/Trauma-Informed-Guidelines.pdf
- the tagline for the reglators in vic "it's ok to complain" - https://www.mht.vic.gov.au/news/its-ok-complain - to support this dialogue (i'[m following sane's guideilnes of citing sources for information provided)
-saying "a small number of people" is not factually true - about 12 ppl participated in the thread
- there are likely more
-no thread has to reflect every single person's view and i am happy to hear if there are hundreds of ppl who idsagree however no one said so on the thread or elsewhere
-peer support and recovery is rooted in justice and mental health consumers are often marginilised in other ways - due to age, being from minority groups, etc etc - so i wouldn't minimise them based on their being only a few that spoke up
shutting down valid concerns with such langauge is not in line with Sane's values, which is for complex mental health.
I am not sharing my specific experience in detail because that's best discussed through appropriate channels but it is healthy to express concern if something feels unsafe.
That said, i personally don't mind that there are less peer support workers on the forum, i dont mind a peer supporting peer space, and am trying to adjust to the new guidelines.
