It is the upcoming anniversary of my Pop's death which I was reminded of by the anniversary of a death for someone else. It has brought back alot of memories and grief.
Combining that with some other stuff in 'the real world' - I haven't known what to do or where to go. It really felt like I was on my own and really alone again. I haven't coped with any of it at all well.
Definitely a good thing @Zoe7. Best to ignore what I said. So what are your plans for the rest of the night? I've sorted my paperwork into piles. Two piles are now in date order. 3 more piles to sort out into date order. Can't even get into bed - as I have the papers everywhere. Lol. Tomorrow morning I just have to print my original 30 plus page Workcover claim letter. Such fun!

Re: Loss and Grief
I think I have worked it out anyway - hate being 'switched on' sometimes - know too much and take too much on board
Sounds like you have a lot still to do - and you might have to sleep on the floor tonight lol - what time is your appointment? @utopia
You asked about my Pop before. It is really hard knowing the 20th anniverary is coming up. I found him and tried to revive him. My uncle turned up just after the ambulance and I told him and then just left -always felt guilty that I just left him to deal with it on his own. I then had to drive afterwards to tell my mum first (was her dad) and then take her to where dad was working to tell him and pick him up - then ring my sister and tell her.
The clincher for me was when someone said they were glad it was me who found him because I was the strongest one in the family and the one who could deal with it. ...but how do you deal with finding someone like that - I'm sure I cracked or broke a rib trying to revive him too. I knew he was gone and there was no point but I didn't stop until the ambulance got there.I can remember every little detail of that morning.

@Zoe7. Don't go on your coping thread tonighr. Sweetheart and another are talking about some full on stuff. So best to stay off it tonight. Faith and hopes far and away thread is beautiful if you need some distractions tonight. I'm sorry but I only got 3 & 1/2 hrs sleep this morning - so I'm going to have to go to bed. I know other safe to chat with friends are up Still. Sweet dreams my friend and I'll chat with you in the morning. Be gentle with yourself and focus on your breath - to help you calm your thoughts. Re: Loss and Grief
Oh my god @Zoe7. You had to leave your uncle with him. You just spent a lot of time trying to revive him & then having to be the one to tell your parents and sister. That is just bloody hard. Very unfair when people say - you are the strongest. Because they don't know what is going on underneath. I don't think there was anything lucky about you having to be that person. Bloody hard. How do you deal with the memories?

Re: Loss and Grief
Could you try my breathing exercise tonight @Zoe7. Focus on your breath. 3 deep breaths. Then slow the breathing down. Any time you notice thoughts have intruded - don't worry - simply focus on your breath again. Even if it gives you 5 minutes of calm. That's a start. Thinking of you. I'll be snoring in about fifteen minutes. ♥♥♥♥

Re: Loss and Grief
Sorry @Zoe7, the forums are hard at times, I've been hurt a lot too and found some distance. Most of us have mood disorders of some sort so pulling back emotionally is important and sticking where you feel safe helps. I'm sorry I've crossed the line unintentionally, its not my intention to upset anyone. You're so vulnerable, so ooen and such a giver - do keep some for yourself, walk away into the garden perhaps.
I'm sorry about your pop, anniversary dates have a way of unravelling us and bringing it all back like it was yesterday. What you describe would have been very traumatising (a trauma) associated with death so by definition you probably know you have a PTSD thing happening. The 'grounding' techniques are most helpful for me (I actively participated in my girls resuscitation attempts too, and being alone just with a phone, awful!). You must be kind to yourself, especially around these anniversary dates. And your thoughts, you said you still feel guilty about just 'walking away' and leaving your uncle with the bag. Do you know why you did that? SHOCK! and adrenalin 'fight flight' response, your brain wasn't thinking because you needed to 'survive' and get on out of there. That's what trauma does to us, it wasn't your fault, you did the best you could. Self compassion will help you when the waves come. Go gentle on yourself. xox

Re: Loss and Grief
@Former-Member I have never felt you have 'crossed a line' with me so there is absolutely nothing to be sorry about here
I feel guilty about leaving my uncle alone with the paramedicsand police but I wasn't 'fleeing' - I had to go and tell my mum. My first response was to get to her and tell her before anyone else could. I can still see so clearly what she was wearing, how I told her to sit down and then telling her. It had been exactly 4 months to the day that her mum (my nan) had passed away and it was all too much of a shock to everyone.

Re: Loss and Grief
Oh gosh, you describe it so graphically, isn't it amazing how our minds take in and retain all that detail. Your poor mum must have taken it bad, so soon after losing her mum. How did you handle your mums response?. Gosh life can be brutal.
