Depressed with my situation, later 50s

Depressed with my situation, later 50s

Hi there people thx for having me. 1st post so l this is an ok place for depression as l couldn't find a depression section.

lt seems to me crazy especially at this stage but l'm just so damn stuck about my situation and just can not seem to be able to come up with a decision on what to do with it.

l didn't do well getting rid of my house but l did still also have a block of land in a small town. My ex and l bought it yrs back it was just suppose to be an investment but now because of the way things went with my house, it's looking like the best solution from here would be to just build something on the block. There's no debt on the block at all now and l do have small savings left that l could build a simple house with so financially it'd be ideal as l'd have no debt or mortgage.

Problem is a few things.

1stly, although l moved to regional area awhile back now, l grew up in the city but the town here at the block is tiny, no shops just a pub. Nearest decent town is 45k away.

The block does have a small cabin on it and l;ve been staying 6mths now supposedly figuring out whether l wanna build on it of not.

lt is a pretty block and spot and l'd have no debt if l just stayed here, where as not only don't l feel up to moving any more but l can't afford to now or to take on a new mortgage either after the house loss but somewhere better would be much much dearer and there'd be no way without one.

Trouble is, the town depresses the hell out of me especially at night every night l just sink again even if the day hasn't been too bad, sometimes even quite nice. Night comes round and down l go.

lt's just so damn small and away and at night there's just nothing except house lights on, that's it.

l mean if l had a choice l wouldn't choice to settle here never bought it back when for that at all, it's just the best solution though all round for sure. All round except that l just get so damn depressed out here.

So 6mths and l'm still absolutely nowhere about building something so l'm still just in the little cabin. Trouble with just doing it is, that if this went on and l just hated it here, l might not even be able to sell it and get my money back anyway and it still leaves the same problems above, with going somewhere better anyway.

lt's mad but l don't think l've ever been so stuck in my life.

Best to all.

mr

I used to be depressed with my situation, later 50s

I get brief moments where I feel alone/dont want to go outside after dark etc but no reason to @mrmista

most days spent between tidying up planning next purchase; trip to 'bigtown', home improvement/watever or reading news papers watching tv . I got 'cable' set up and what passes for broadband here lol. Iservice my car even if dont wash it lol, alwways something to do if in the mood. I do sleep a lot lately tho . Whoop. dont have to be anywhere else.

Ihave put off getting new , better printer. going to branch of library here gives me someone to talk to . Get a couple hellos at supermkt. People at hardware and RSL know who I am lol

Thing is, I never was a 'joiner' ok I could become one now, but only if suits me .. lol

like going to check mens shed out at some stage to get free stuff of course lol, theywould get council funding (my rates)

also big town has gun clubs.that was on bucket list . if really am as bad as i was in teens will not bother , but maybe wont be lol also could get a licence and a few guns ha ha

my life is lievable atm by tapping super thru TTR I reached 'super age' near 6 years ago now and have taken half super out already once got head around it ie trial and error. so I can get laptops/broadband keep car looked after mechanically etc.

Arvo @TAB

Haven't shot a rifle for yrs. Have had some archery interest , never done it though but thought in a club. l kayak to but from here l'd prob just leave it up at the main in the dunes, too lazy to load it every time. If someone nicks it tough.

How fars your main anyway ? Sounds like your local at least has something though anyway, here nothin. Just a pub and the stupid bloody PO, the chick in that is bloody hopeless. Using the next town over PO from now on.

Anyway, thx for the thoughts and experience too man, v appreciated and nice to hear your spoiling yourself with some goodies too, way to go.

Just up my main today, bloody gorgeous day. Ocean looked perfect l'm thinking Christ, how bizarre,as l often do, back to my little hide out later.

l've only had one other option. Save my money, sell this place as is, and then try finding a block closer in and then do just what l was gonna do here- with that.

There has been 2 come up since l/ve been back. Both admittedly had their own issues though so hence them being so much closer in but still cheap.

But at any rate, man, do do all that, would take a couple of yrs from here. Time to sell - search a newy, get it, then the building and starting from scratch.

The thought makes me puke.

ideally if you bought somewhere it should be conditional on you selling your place , which might not happen in a hurry. just sounds too risky

Do not know what a 'main' is , sorry. @mrmista

@TAB

Main , ah , just your main bigger town.

But oh shit no l'd have to sell this first then start looking bc yeah like ya said, too risky otherwise and stressful as.

Anyway, nice to see that you came out of the gloom from earlier when you moved to there. Reckon if any of the things you've been looking at , clubs whatever, or something else you'd like, come along , would make a world of difference to so good luck with that stuff.

Haaaa, @Glisten , @tyme

Thanks for that guys, yaknow, really appreciated those, they lightened up my head for just a second there and really, your both spot on l guess too.

But eh, 50s thread, well give or take a decade or two ha ha, why not, but we'll let in anyone ha ha. All welcome.

Who said they don't do birthdays and age is just a number well be damned,me either. Use to cop stuff every damn yr about that , not that l'm even that popular don't get me wrong but l do have a huge faamily l hardly ever see btu for some damn reason they always remember my bloody bdy and insist on send a message or call, wth. For yrs been telling them l don't do bloody bdys, and for yrs they just keep on sending it though. Last few yrs l've been blocking all family for a wk around bdy time, just to shut it up. Well bar one or two that l still see a lot off.

My daughters handy bc she always forgets bdys anyway ha ha, wish that'd rub off onto other people.

LOL. Mu mother doesn't even know my birthday. One year, in a group chat, my sister said Happy Birthday to me. My mum asked, "Whose birthday is it?" @mrmista

So no, bday's don't mean anything to me. However, I'm careful because some people get really upset if I don't say happy bday to them. They think I don't care.

Anyway, I'm part of this "Later 50s'" chat now 🙂

I keep saying. Change begins with me.

I totally agree @Glisten

As much as we want to spend out life blaming anything and everything around us, we have to remember that change begins with us, ourselves.

Thanks for the reminder
