Depressed with my situation, later 50s

Depressed with my situation, later 50s

Hi there people thx for having me. 1st post so l this is an ok place for depression as l couldn't find a depression section.

lt seems to me crazy especially at this stage but l'm just so damn stuck about my situation and just can not seem to be able to come up with a decision on what to do with it.

l didn't do well getting rid of my house but l did still also have a block of land in a small town. My ex and l bought it yrs back it was just suppose to be an investment but now because of the way things went with my house, it's looking like the best solution from here would be to just build something on the block. There's no debt on the block at all now and l do have small savings left that l could build a simple house with so financially it'd be ideal as l'd have no debt or mortgage.

Problem is a few things.

1stly, although l moved to regional area awhile back now, l grew up in the city but the town here at the block is tiny, no shops just a pub. Nearest decent town is 45k away.

The block does have a small cabin on it and l;ve been staying 6mths now supposedly figuring out whether l wanna build on it of not.

lt is a pretty block and spot and l'd have no debt if l just stayed here, where as not only don't l feel up to moving any more but l can't afford to now or to take on a new mortgage either after the house loss but somewhere better would be much much dearer and there'd be no way without one.

Trouble is, the town depresses the hell out of me especially at night every night l just sink again even if the day hasn't been too bad, sometimes even quite nice. Night comes round and down l go.

lt's just so damn small and away and at night there's just nothing except house lights on, that's it.

l mean if l had a choice l wouldn't choice to settle here never bought it back when for that at all, it's just the best solution though all round for sure. All round except that l just get so damn depressed out here.

So 6mths and l'm still absolutely nowhere about building something so l'm still just in the little cabin. Trouble with just doing it is, that if this went on and l just hated it here, l might not even be able to sell it and get my money back anyway and it still leaves the same problems above, with going somewhere better anyway.

lt's mad but l don't think l've ever been so stuck in my life.

Best to all.

mr

@mrmista Good on you for being down to earth and off grid. We dont have the tv set up. I haven't taken up the battery offers yet....dealing with the stuff that needs doing....one day... I keep it pretty simple.

Guess, the beauty of the country can get tired when the isolation sets in. You want more party time in town, but then.... I have mod cons, but jeeeez the traffic....

Got a nephew coming to crash for a couple days and son and cousins are going off to a music festival. They have been doing it every few months for a year. Its good for them to get together.

@TAB new set up with work sounds uber cool. I haven't heard Kevin Borich in over 40 years... hilarious.

@Appleblossom

l'm from melb and have spent last 6 yrs in sydney part time with ex or her down at my other place. lt's weird, although l left Melb a long time ago now, it's still like l hardly left whenever l'm back in the city syd or melb, weird but so l've remained a mix now ever since. Was down Melb yesterday,it's still a weird thing for me, like on auto, l never left in ways. But traffic hell yeah, can't handle that, don't even bother driving in syd we train everywhere. But funny, l spose bc we're both older now don't really do any more in syd than l do right here on my place. Except l suppose the offer is always there right outside the door if you do wanna do something where as here l have to go drive to it first.

When l get my place finished there's a few wanna come up stay a bit but not all that big on just people , staying myself.

Re: Depressed with my situation, later 50s

haha @TAB its a big world of musos. lol... I never saw him. Saw online that he went to Adelaide Fringe this century!

@mrmista I lived in Sydney for a few years as a kid, and my youngest brother stayed there, so I kept visiting him over the decades. Only drove up myself, once, but traffic crazier than here, in Melbourne, so trained and planed it after that. lol. I let my brother drive us around Sydney in his "troopie" as he called it. He passed 10 years ago of colorectal c. He was my rich bro. Bought lots of houses in Darling Harbour, when it was wharves. We were separated when he was 6 months but I always kept some link going.

There is some beautiful country between the 2 cities. Keep enjoying the view for me.

Yes people can be good, but too much can be hard work. Find the balance that works for you.

Re: Depressed with my situation, later 50s

In my dippy hippy days, I did both inland and coastal routes. I wasn't driving. @TAB @mrmista

Last went to Griffith on the back of an Yammie 1100! My little RD400 would have slowed the crew down so I went pillion. Yes for the races. I But i did not really ride bikes for thrills. Joked that the 1100 seat was like a lounge suite. Riding was just more affordable and practical when I was 17, and my friends showed me how to maintain etc. Dont regret it. But not really a big bad bikie. Haha. In my current church there are 2 other church musicians (organist and conductor), who have done a lot of pillioning, though they did not actually have a licence. So one cant really judge which side of which fence most people sit... lol

Re: Depressed with my situation, later 50s

Yep @TAB 2 strokes had faster acceleration than 4 strokes. It was all good. Gave me a good memory. I am grateful for the Good Brotherhood of Bikies. The kind that stop for people, broken down on the side of the road and help out. (I am not totally stoopid. There are few bad boys out there tho.)
