Depressed with my situation, later 50s

Depressed with my situation, later 50s

Hi there people thx for having me. 1st post so l this is an ok place for depression as l couldn't find a depression section.

lt seems to me crazy especially at this stage but l'm just so damn stuck about my situation and just can not seem to be able to come up with a decision on what to do with it.

l didn't do well getting rid of my house but l did still also have a block of land in a small town. My ex and l bought it yrs back it was just suppose to be an investment but now because of the way things went with my house, it's looking like the best solution from here would be to just build something on the block. There's no debt on the block at all now and l do have small savings left that l could build a simple house with so financially it'd be ideal as l'd have no debt or mortgage.

Problem is a few things.

1stly, although l moved to regional area awhile back now, l grew up in the city but the town here at the block is tiny, no shops just a pub. Nearest decent town is 45k away.

The block does have a small cabin on it and l;ve been staying 6mths now supposedly figuring out whether l wanna build on it of not.

lt is a pretty block and spot and l'd have no debt if l just stayed here, where as not only don't l feel up to moving any more but l can't afford to now or to take on a new mortgage either after the house loss but somewhere better would be much much dearer and there'd be no way without one.

Trouble is, the town depresses the hell out of me especially at night every night l just sink again even if the day hasn't been too bad, sometimes even quite nice. Night comes round and down l go.

lt's just so damn small and away and at night there's just nothing except house lights on, that's it.

l mean if l had a choice l wouldn't choice to settle here never bought it back when for that at all, it's just the best solution though all round for sure. All round except that l just get so damn depressed out here.

So 6mths and l'm still absolutely nowhere about building something so l'm still just in the little cabin. Trouble with just doing it is, that if this went on and l just hated it here, l might not even be able to sell it and get my money back anyway and it still leaves the same problems above, with going somewhere better anyway.

lt's mad but l don't think l've ever been so stuck in my life.

Best to all.

mr

@TAB

yeah fair enough , v similar here. Be scrounging materials as much as poss and 2nd hands. Could easily blow what l have if not. Scored 31/2 k of cedar windows and sliding door of fb free, other wk , huge saving. Got enough sheets for the whole place if l want them 1/4 the price of new too, still in really nice nick.

But it'll all help stretch the budget big time cutting where l can.

l'd love a smoother nicer car not a newy just better than my 4x but l'd have to sell that first so got it in as a swap atm , had a few offers, hoping somem comes of that.

@TAB and anyone else.

Bwwn browsing property on off since l got back there's only been 1 or 2 blocks in my range but in better spots. Both had a few other things though and l'd still have to build something.

Did come across just today, great little property and house, this l could manage, lt's about 2hrs from here so away from the coast. Really like this area, if right town, central Vic..

Well, it is a great town has everything and a very bright place, beautiful area, the house is actually in the town.

Admittedly in any town l would prefer to be way outer edge somewhere so that is one thing.

But, l stayed over that way few mths while l was away vanning trying it out bc it was an alternative l'd been thinking about that still has a few cheapies about.

The people though, bound to be some great people about l know but most l saw around were veryyyyy country, lota bushy types to. Not my thing l wouldn't fit at all.

lf it's not one damn thing it's another. Can't win.

Back when over a few mths you'd come across 3 or 4 places but these days , lucky for one.

Over here though there's not only the coast even if it is 50k from my place, but the people are fairly modern and a lot of them from all over too, much more my thing.

@mrmista well, so, what are you waiting for? Get a wriggle on. Go get your dream 🙌🏼 town house, not townhouse.

What defines a Bushy type?

I’d go weak at the knees for a Kevin Costner type stockman .

Well

l have decided one thing.

l'm gonna sell this place, l just don't wanna live here. Been here over 5mths now but l still just can not get myself over the line.

Every time l start to or think about building or doing a bit more on that or making a start , l back out again a wk later. Every time.

l could have it built by now, to liveable stage anyway but it just keeps happening. Thank God l've held back on actually forking out the money on things to get started bc without going into the detail but for a few reasons, that would really stuff things if l still didn't stay later.

l even got to Bunnings with the trailer ready to blow 5k on the first part in materials one day. Sat in the car park an hr- drove out again.

l've tried to come around to it, tried to except things round here and staying is def' the best way to go financially but l'd be just going against too stronger gut feel and l just can't get over the line.

lt's not just distance, there's other things l haven't talked about here, but all in all, they just aren't going away.

Damn it.
