Depressed with my situation, later 50s

Depressed with my situation, later 50s

Hi there people thx for having me. 1st post so l this is an ok place for depression as l couldn't find a depression section.

lt seems to me crazy especially at this stage but l'm just so damn stuck about my situation and just can not seem to be able to come up with a decision on what to do with it.

l didn't do well getting rid of my house but l did still also have a block of land in a small town. My ex and l bought it yrs back it was just suppose to be an investment but now because of the way things went with my house, it's looking like the best solution from here would be to just build something on the block. There's no debt on the block at all now and l do have small savings left that l could build a simple house with so financially it'd be ideal as l'd have no debt or mortgage.

Problem is a few things.

1stly, although l moved to regional area awhile back now, l grew up in the city but the town here at the block is tiny, no shops just a pub. Nearest decent town is 45k away.

The block does have a small cabin on it and l;ve been staying 6mths now supposedly figuring out whether l wanna build on it of not.

lt is a pretty block and spot and l'd have no debt if l just stayed here, where as not only don't l feel up to moving any more but l can't afford to now or to take on a new mortgage either after the house loss but somewhere better would be much much dearer and there'd be no way without one.

Trouble is, the town depresses the hell out of me especially at night every night l just sink again even if the day hasn't been too bad, sometimes even quite nice. Night comes round and down l go.

lt's just so damn small and away and at night there's just nothing except house lights on, that's it.

l mean if l had a choice l wouldn't choice to settle here never bought it back when for that at all, it's just the best solution though all round for sure. All round except that l just get so damn depressed out here.

So 6mths and l'm still absolutely nowhere about building something so l'm still just in the little cabin. Trouble with just doing it is, that if this went on and l just hated it here, l might not even be able to sell it and get my money back anyway and it still leaves the same problems above, with going somewhere better anyway.

lt's mad but l don't think l've ever been so stuck in my life.

Best to all.

mr

ah I had no idea re trailer and bunnings @mrmista yes you really do not want to be there. do what you have to do, and Good Luck !!..

yeah see a few half built places on fb last few years, where people forked out, started work then realised it would cost a fortune and be shite

The Block and other reno shows got a lot to answer for.

theres a house 100m away as crow flies , sold for $120k 2yrs ago, ute in drive occasionally. no outwoard signs of any real progress. there's one or 2 places same street people re-sold mid reno.guess they didnt know murder house right next to them lol . not been touched since someone got pumped full of lead by cops 3 years ago. even old Wolesley still in hovel driveway .

@TAB

Thanks mate .

And yeah , l blame those stupid effg shows like that Block and others for in part being responsible for blowing our property market to the insanity, and filling the public's heads with their bullshyt and the prices they talk. The were making that sort of money look normal. Just fake bloody rubbish did so much damage l reckon.

Butttt, anyway, yeah l've looked at a few of those type of half finished places , great way to buy really bc they've forked out a fortune and in labour too but then they have to practically give it away later on almost just land price only half torn up , half finished.

But eh, l better keep an eye out for murder houses then to eh, no thanks.

But anyway see yeah, exactly. l've gotta be really careful of that here, might not even get my money back if l did leave later especially if l changed my mind again or ran out of money or somem half way through.

But then it might not even break even finished and selling anyway here, it's a bit of a weird little pocket like that out here, even in this mad market these days, few people have still done their dough like your saying.

Church up the road here right now actually, $150k. They paid that for it though themselves then spent at least 50k on it but half of that was in tearing it to bits and hiring machines - but that's the easy part hey. But then they also started and spent big on other things to so now it's all in bits or the rest is half finished and now up for sale again for exactly what they bought it for to begin with. Ouch !

Tbh, l doubt they'll even get back what they paid for it as is, let alone all the work and money they threw at it.

well just sell your place and go elsewhere.Apparently can buy first then sell if other side agrees, someone I know did that.sold house , rented itback til found somewhere else. sounds a bit nuts now tbh. rent is rent go live in caravan pk lol

I knew this place was forever re my house. only options would be downsizing , loss of peace and quiet, bad area. maybe could get a flat in bad suburb. so, yeah, nah. @mrmista

Re: Depressed with my situation, later 50s

@TAB . Yeah have a few ideas and happy to downsize too, don't even want this 1/2 a hect here any more.

But yeah l'll be browsing and if still nothing when it's sold l'll find somewhere to stay and take my time browsing.

Not what l had in mind last bloody thing l feel like, l dunno, was really hoping this one would work out butttt, we see.

Lucky you for knowing that mate, how long have you been there now ?

ah yeah , good for you man.

But yeah, this place think l mentioned it but it was only ever supposedly an investment ex and l bought never to live on. Didn't even like coming over to work on the place let alone live here.

And sadly now l've confirmed for myself, nothings changed.

Feel like l'm damned if l do or don't, fk it.

Thx for the music man , great stuff, effg love hat Brian Jonestown clip , bought their cd.

Haa, l use to have bikes but we didn't get along so best l gavem up.

Community there well, got a funny thing about that for myself.

Not that it matters now - check next piece of news.

But l haven't been for any walks about here as yet, keeping my anonymity till l worked out what l;m doin . But anyway, walked up street with the can for mower petrol the other day. The coffee van was there few locals around that getting coffee and some sitting outside the pub to.

Was good really, a few said hello and a bit of chit chat.

Few days before had to go into the post office too which l avoid but was in a good mood, walked over again, wasn't bad either, quick joke and chat.

They would've been seeing me drive past all this time, 1second, gone.

People seemed quite happy that the new guy was out walkin about and sayin hello.

Give it a go mate when your in a good mood, might get a pleasant surprise.

Anyway, on the news front, looks like the calls been made for me.

Put the place back on market 2wks ago, let it float about see what happens while l'm procrastinating, let the Gods decide. Well, they have spoken , low and behold, bloody thing sold.

Well, they're putting on the deposit next wk and very keen so can't say it's sold right now but should be next wk.Bloody hell.

So anyway, if it goes through, l feel ok about it , some relief too, think it's the right call as it hasn't mattered which way l cut it it just hasn't been sitting with me at all staying so.

See what happens buttttt, might be free to start browsing by next wk for something else.Prob shouldn't have said anything.
