Depressed with my situation, later 50s

Depressed with my situation, later 50s

Hi there people thx for having me. 1st post so l this is an ok place for depression as l couldn't find a depression section.

lt seems to me crazy especially at this stage but l'm just so damn stuck about my situation and just can not seem to be able to come up with a decision on what to do with it.

l didn't do well getting rid of my house but l did still also have a block of land in a small town. My ex and l bought it yrs back it was just suppose to be an investment but now because of the way things went with my house, it's looking like the best solution from here would be to just build something on the block. There's no debt on the block at all now and l do have small savings left that l could build a simple house with so financially it'd be ideal as l'd have no debt or mortgage.

Problem is a few things.

1stly, although l moved to regional area awhile back now, l grew up in the city but the town here at the block is tiny, no shops just a pub. Nearest decent town is 45k away.

The block does have a small cabin on it and l;ve been staying 6mths now supposedly figuring out whether l wanna build on it of not.

lt is a pretty block and spot and l'd have no debt if l just stayed here, where as not only don't l feel up to moving any more but l can't afford to now or to take on a new mortgage either after the house loss but somewhere better would be much much dearer and there'd be no way without one.

Trouble is, the town depresses the hell out of me especially at night every night l just sink again even if the day hasn't been too bad, sometimes even quite nice. Night comes round and down l go.

lt's just so damn small and away and at night there's just nothing except house lights on, that's it.

l mean if l had a choice l wouldn't choice to settle here never bought it back when for that at all, it's just the best solution though all round for sure. All round except that l just get so damn depressed out here.

So 6mths and l'm still absolutely nowhere about building something so l'm still just in the little cabin. Trouble with just doing it is, that if this went on and l just hated it here, l might not even be able to sell it and get my money back anyway and it still leaves the same problems above, with going somewhere better anyway.

lt's mad but l don't think l've ever been so stuck in my life.

Best to all.

mr

Hello my dear "later 50s" crew members @Shaz51 @mrmista @TAB @Glisten - love seeing you all here.

I hear my neighbours watching the footy..... they are yelling a lot.

I don't really undersand footy on ANZAC day... and maybe I never will 🙂

(Actually, maybe I don't understand footy on any given day!)

@tyme No I haven’t seen the application for NDIS provider registration.

I understand what you’re saying and I believe that unscrupulous people or businesses are the few and not the majority.

The repercussions when vetting systems fail is extensive. Someone has to be held accountable.

@TAB

ah mate, in that l'll go to all that work spend my last razooo and MH , building but then don't like it here, yeah for sure.

l mean l'd feel much better if all that was a hell yes. 😂

But the main thing that's pretty well same thing and all else anyway, is pretty basic stuff. lt's a long bloody way from my main town and anything else.

Re: Depressed with my situation, later 50s

Ahh @tonys I miss him like a brother. We all miss him don’t we @TAB

@mrmista, tonys was one of the most memorable, unique, skilled, talented and thoughtful people, that I have met in Forumland.

tonys had an uncanny ability to read people with little or no information.

When I say, read people, I don’t mean the ABCD personality theory. I mean he could see your core. The original part of you, before life left layers of survival debris and emotional scars.

tonys past was horrific, but by the time we met he was very happy with his partner The Bookkeeper. He had recovered from surgery for physical injuries he had suffered years ago. The last we heard about tonys was via The Bookkeeper (@Gemma - I’ve forgotten the rest of her tag @TAB )

tonys had missed a step going down cellar stairs without the light on, taking most of the banister with him. It was a bad head injury.

There are many of us that wouldn’t have made it through our struggles if it wasn’t for tonys.

I think about him occasionally and hope life has been good to him.

@TAB why am I telling @mrmista about tonys?

Is it the part where he lived in his car and worked on farms until he made enough money to buy a house? 🤷🏼‍♀️

Re: Depressed with my situation, later 50s

.. 3 years 1 month @mrmista just looked it up.

working on health issues at glacial pace.

3.5yrs to age pension.

I still have moments where I think wtf am I doing here

its comfortable.

given up on trying to fit in here. Not who I am.

House quite liveable. will try and do carport and pergola ie easilyremoved when I'm dead and gone and not over capitalising.

Only thought the other day how I spent months with no little to no furniture, plastic chairs , laptop on a box.

I still have ideas, but they would take all my finances. so its a juggling act between health, wants , needs and accepting thingsat least for time being. age pension would be extra 300 fortnight but by then prob have no super left if no work in next 3.5 years. I re trained year before last. had a few bites, got too hard basket. standard take was you have to do full time away from home. Got pet thats my only friend lol. so that was ONE of my push pulls work/pet, another was getting really good jobs only to fail medical

So yeah, my path not straight forward. I planted some trees. want to see them grow up.theres also couple random factors but they are so unlikely now as not to matter. ie overseas inheritance poss aroun$80k, spent $6k on lawyers who said walk in park, guess what, missing ID docs for dead people as told them from get go. there is vague chance they may decide I am who I say I am, but not really likely. also revisiting a claim on former employer for a few grand standard issue no proof, sign never to try anything again claim , in progress again, but again, unlikely now.

Ah man don't be too hard on yourself sat on boxes a few times in houses and clutched at all kinds of financial things supposedly coming through at different times.

Many disappointments, like last house, long story but end of day after 8yrs couldn't get my cut , bit like some of your stuff. That was a place l got into after divorce was suppose to reset me up, so much for that so hence falling back on this place now.

l decided to go of vanning at the finish of that house, a break, think, de-stress, chill, make some choices, maybe some blessing comes from above while l'm at it right but alas, nice time but no blessings so l'm back here now.

Knew it wouldn't cost much so l could scrape through, was bloody nice.

The fitting in things hard l know, me ex and daughter came up this way 20yrs ago, 100k over from here, both from the city though but so been awhile now.

These days l kinda found some midway thing where l at least roughly fit, they know l'm different but same time , there's a little bit of local in me too these days. lt gets better.

Ya still a young bloke mate really, if you get on top of the health stuff still lots of time to do soma that.

Planted all th trees on this place to 15yrs ago, was a sheep paddock, really nice now. Really satisfying isn't it, l'm a tree hugger.

But eh, ya never know with all that mate. Bloke cross the rd at my old house woke up being a millionaire one morning after some 15yr court thing.

Just scraping here too, mainly coz l don;t wanna go back to work. lf l play cards right could scrape by till pension, tis the hope. Especially if l just bloody stayed here l'd be laughin, bugger.

Hang in there anyway eh, here anytime.
