Sensory Resets - What's Yours?

Sensory Resets - What's Yours?

Hello everyone! 😊💚

Wishing you all a comfortable and peaceful Tuesday. 💚

I was thinking this morning about how certain sounds and smells can completely shift a mood, like the smell of rain on dry ground (petrichor), the crackle of a fire, or the sound of waves crashing against rocks.🌧🔥🌊

When things feel a bit too loud or overwhelming, I find that focusing on a specific "sensory reset" really helps me feel a bit more grounded. For me, it's usually petrichor or the sound of wind through a tree's leaves, both of which are incredibly soothing and make me appreciate nature. 🌲

I'd really love to hear from you all - what is a "sensory reset" for you? Is there a particular sound, sight or smell that helps you find a moment of peace? (I suppose you could also do taste, like how sour lollies are for me, a huge sensory reset.) 💚

I'm taking a break from sports at the moment, @Appleblossom. I've been experimenting with art of late and cannot get enough of it. My favourite show is Portrait Painter of the Year, despite them being repeats. The innate skill of some people! I've decided to just watch instead of labouring on for a while, though visiting galleries. I've also joined U3A for music appreciation. I'm not expecting much but may be surprised.

I had a near fatal accident toward end of 2019 @Historylover. Truck changed lanes when I was almost level with the cabin. My car somehow stopped on gravel in the medium stripe, stopping in between metal power pole and a large tree. I’m not as bad as I was, still have panic attacks when trucks pass me or I need to pass a truck

Confidence can be shaken, can't it, @Flutterbug9?

@MatchaToad @AuntGlow

@Flutterbug9 car accidents can be traumatising. Sorry, you had that. It took me while to recover basic confidence in freeway driving, from an accident I had about 8 years ago.

It is hard to know the range of consequences.

Enjoy u3a. They can be good. I have known our music appreciation people over a decade, but as I mainly want active music, not passive, I dont go.

I'm the same way with sport, @Appleblossom. I am happy to play, but watching any sport isn't for me. I'm hoping for the best with the class, though. Seeing performances is a likelihood, so that's promising. I took myself to a chamber music performance recently which was delightful, and Opera in Federation Square was wonderful last week.
