Being misstreated

Being misstreated

This is my little rant in this forum.

I am going on 31 and have a brother about 1 year younger than me. Throughout my whole life in our family there was not much love and communication. My brother and I did get along but the majority of the time he and I would not get along and often my father and I would gang up on him and call him names and get our self esteem from this. To me as a child growing up I thought it was ok to do this and never understood what it would be like to be my brother.

My father and mother never communicated emotion and thier relationship was feuled with negative energy. This is where the trigger was I feel and where the dissharmony arose.

My mother only recently said to me that at one stage she said to my brother that my fathers opinion did not matter. To me this may have been the trigger which over time sent me off in the wrong direction. When she told me this it set off alarm bells in my head and that she never spoke to me but spoke to my brother. I think she said this was around when my brother was 14. At around 15 I started drinking and at age 17 started taking drugs. To me this seems all to coinside with each other too much to be a coincidence. When I have asked my mother why she never trusted me as a child and spoke to me she says I did until you started taking drugs. Then she says that I lost her trust but now I have it back.

My brother took drugs and drunk I know this but now I hear she said she told my brother my fathers opinion did not matter it makes me realise she put all her trust in to my brother and left me with my father. My father and I got along but our relationship is terrible, if you have read my other thread in the Our Experience and Stories forum http://saneforums.org/t5/Our-experience-stories/Living-with-depression-and-anxiety/m-p/17866#M2415my father is adopted and is very detached. I think my mother sees the side of him in me and rejects this and this is what has happened throughout my life. Neither my mother and father can seem to accept both thier childs.

Anyway that is my problem I find at the moment with my family. I find I do not get the respect and understanding I deserve.

I speak with my mother tomorrow 15/02/2015 for my birthday 16/02/2015, I will let you all know how I go.

Thanks for your support.

Re: Being misstreated

Ok that sounds good.

I think your right I need to forgive my parents but they are so picky on everything and its like they prefer to be in control and have never let me get this. I am determined to figure out why and get a result I think I need to get them together and see thier real feelings on the past, I live with my father and its hopeless trying to make things work with him he really is horrible.

I think with me there and asking them about thier feelings and emotion about THEM may change the tune on things.

Thats all I can think of?

Thanks anne.

Re: Being misstreated

Oh yeah anne,I spoke to my mother and in amongst all this rambling I managed to get out of her her and my father never said they trusted each other, she said she felt it but they never said it. I think its key to say these things and on a regular basis to keep the relationship going but I mean when you never say it and over a great expanse of time it has a detramental affect.

At the moment I do not know who I am, I feel like I could lose control at any moment, its the worst ever feeling its worse than wanting to die.

I live at my fathers and he is in constant control. I told him he and mum never said they trust each other and he was quite confronted by that, since then we have had feelings of love but I still feel horrible.

Dear @Troubled_One

Your clever in keeping the dialogue going......
But please if you speak to your Mum, to keep it positive okay?

I've been in meltdown, and will be for few more days. But..".....when you narrow it down to me......I don't feel you are getting everyone's wonderful and highly attuned opinions.
Do you agree ?

I don't like that you feel your losing control because you are clever and diving into your new way of relationships with your brother will only stress him out......
Can you talk about specifics times...memories when things were just fun like a birthday party or something ? :0)

Re: Being misstreated

Hey anne no you are holding your own here you have helped me greatly.

I am just trying to keep the communication going with everything.

Sorry to say I am losing control so bad but its hard when you feel your family is against you. The problem is is there is no positive times I can recall but there was not any negatives either.

Re: Being misstreated

I understand what you are saying and I do.

I have a left knee injury which prevents me from a lot of things but I will try and get in a better frame of mind.

I am strong and the help from everyone helps me through and I feel I can contribute.

I hope you work things out and let me know what happened.

Re: Being misstreated

Hi all,
@Troubled_One
All beautiful people online

how are you all?? Do You know Iv got papers to get 4 blood tests......getting up to fifty years old does play havoc with your psyche.
I wish I spent more time taking care of myself when I was younger........everything was difficult and upon reflection, I felt my body was split up into pieces and my answer was to make things more difficult by going to University or getting hard work boy friends or working fulltime.
Now I suffer panic attacks and I just need to stop everything. This morning, I went for a three hour long walk with Arlo.....

Re: Being misstreated

so.......I'm going to visit my ex husband tomorrow morning, I wish the love was still there but once he knocked me on the head 8 times,,,,,,,,,as the hospital wasn't listening to my cries of needing help.....only until the nurse at the courts noticed him and put him in hospital...he knocked me on the head....all the love has gone. It is very distressing for me.

Everything is difficult.
