would sane consider these changes to the forums

would sane consider these changes to the forums

hi everyone i was wondering what people thought about possible changes to bring the forums.

1. having the ability to block someone. i think this would be beneficial in so many ways. it is not necessarily a negative thing it can stop arguments from escalating and feelings from being hurt.

2. having the ability to contact other members outside the forum. we are all adults here and i believe should have the ability to form friendships if wanted outside the forum.

looking forward to hearing from other members.

Hey @DogMan79

I hear the frustration, and I understand what you're describing.

The structure we have around anonymity and tagging exists to support safety, privacy and consistent moderation in line with our guidelines.

While these systems feel restrictive at times, they play an important role in protecting members. Your feedback, and that of other members, is still very much noted and appreciated💛

Re: would sane consider these changes to the forums

Triage system - really think there needs to be clarification of what these means from SANE and Mods perspective.

from my personal experience, consistency on the forums is a total joke. Flag a post as containing word/s that do/ have triggered, nothing happens. Feels like too bad, too sad. Other post, things get sensored, removed or never allowed to appear due to concerns of possible triggers (referring to personal experience both times).

im aware new Mods are currently being trained. Where are the current Mods and PSWs that are needed with supports on the forums?

people posting about struggling with MH in posts over various days and not one post by Mod or PSW.

recently appearance within the forums is everyone is on their own with no support via SANE. (this entire thing has me angry and totally frustrated)

due to restrictions about what can and can’t be mentioned within posts, this leaves me unable to take about some of my struggles. Leaves me no one to reach out to when wanting/needing to talk about my SI/SH. Leaves me feeling I’m felt to emotionally drown.

(guessing some of this will get sensored. Feels useless trying to talk at times)

Thank you for sharing your concerns @Flutterbug9 . It is important to hear your voice about changes, censoring etc.

We will take these into consideration so that we can provide clearer information which may be more helpful for all.

Up-vote from me on @Flutterbug9 's post.

I wonder if there is a way we can mark posts for "please see this urgently" that could have a timeframe of 30 minutes? I know that is not a long time-frame, but I am talking about things that are quite distressing for people and they would benefit from some really immediate support. Not just a "the mentioned something they shouldn't have, but it is not likely to escalate to harm to themselves or others" (e.g. a medication name or first-name-only), which the Mod tag is also used for.

I would also add that I think it would be really helpful to be able see which PSW & Mods are currently online in a list. This helps know that if we need support which user to tag -- because as identified, tagging a Mod may not be seen even until the next day. And I'm not sure if we are allowed to tag a Mod if we need/want someone to talk to and a PSW is not available. Are we allowed to? Are they allowed to chat? I am confused because I didn't think that was their role other than in the case of "acknowledge posts, ensure safety" - but then I see some who do respond with help even in non-crisis-heading situations, and for me I really do like this when they are properly reading & engaged (thinking of @c-user1999 and @Forest_Fairy who I saw have been really good at holding these conversations when people have needed it, and @0ddsidian too whom I can never work out whether they are a PSW or Mod lol because it says Mod but seem more like a PSW - this is again a really good thing in my view). I do find this confusing though 😅 because I don't want my expectations to be wrong.

Hey @AlwaysMyself definitely hearing you, particularly about the need for more clarity around the roles of mods and PSWs, this is all great feedback. Thank you for taking the time to share here

Re: would sane consider these changes to the forums

Agree with you @Flutterbug9 there needs to be better consistency around what is and isn’t allowed on the forums.

I was told that a particular word was allowed to be used after flagging someone else’s post. I was told as long as no details were given. I then used this word and it was taken straight down. I was told it was a case by case situation.

it was an extremely distressing incident, given the word that was used, I was already feeling really vulnerable and how the situation was handled was terrible.

Hey @Bow Also hear you on the need for more consistency, I know this is something that's been a focal point recently and it's so valuable to have feedback on where it's not working and needs more attention and consideration

Re: would sane consider these changes to the forums

@Bow Following discussion and suggestion by a PSW I went all the way to lodging a complaint.

wording I received back was the same.

case by case decision.

it shouldn’t be like that.

thing I found when I was working is it’s “guidelines”.

guidelines are open for interpretation

fully support @AlwaysMyself

some of the things I struggle with, and get into trouble over as I don’t know and no one has ever explained (or have I found info on the website to help my knowledge) are

- PSW and Mods, what’s the difference

- PSW and Mods, who does what

- who is on duty when

- is it ok to flag one specific PSW etc in a post.
- should this not be done

- what to do when flag post for PSW/Mod to update or action something and after xx hrs nothing has been done

- is there a minimum timeframe before post flagged can be expected to actioned

In response to: Re: would sane consider these changes to the forums

Re: would sane consider these changes to the forums

Yep @Flutterbug9 flagged post alerts can go unseen and unactioned for far too long. I had a sane staffer accidentally? post a handover note to my thread and I flagged it and tagged staff a number of times and emailed and it took an hour for it to be seen and removed.

what is the point of this function if it’s taking so long to be addressed?

This is the concern with staff working across multiple services at the same time

Re: would sane consider these changes to the forums

I’m hoping my experience was a one off @Bow

I flagged post to all mods requesting one specific word be removed by post by a mod. A word that was completely incorrect for the situation.

6+ hrs later Tyme came on shift and removed that word
