Talking through trauma and PTSD

The me no one knows - SI warning

The me no one knows - SI warning

I’ve made this space to have somewhere safe to talk and share things.

to chat with every one who has shown concern about and for me.

I have spent almost all my life masking, from as far back as primary school (possibly younger).

almost no one knows the real me. Not sure if I even know the real me.

my past is filled with lots of darkness. People I’ve tried to speak with during my life either don’t believe me or don’t want to know

@AlwaysMyself @Bunniekins @Captain24 @Cuddlebear @rav3n @Jynx

hiding behind the mask pretending nothing is wrong. Putting on brave face whilst inside I’m a shattered pieces. Feeling lost and completely alone. No one wants anything to do with me. Relatives only contact when they want something. Going to bed every night hoping to never wake again

@NightFury I remember you mentioning you journal

Do You journal for MH, general things or both?

Do you find journaling helps your MH?

Thinking of discussing journaling (as part of things I want to focus on) with my new psychologist when I see in few days. Thought might be good to discuss the topic here as well

(please feel free to tag anyone you could be good to join the discussion. I don’t know who else to tag)

Re: The me no one knows - SI warning

@Flutterbug9 I do journal. I don't journal very often and I find myself avoiding journalling, as a way of avoiding my emotions.

I've journalled for maybe three years on and off. Mostly off last year, but it's a habit I would like to start building again.

I journal because my head is a busy place and getting things out and onto paper helps with that. It's also nice to have someone to talk to, and I use my journal for that purpose. I also write a blog, which mostly friends and trusted family members read, where I share what I've learnt or am learning along the way. Not many people read it, and I don't write in it as often as I used to (it used to be a once a week thing).

I also find journalling helps me channel my inner wisdom. I'm a big believer of emotion being the language of the soul, and so, journalling helps me to connect with my inner voice, my inner compass and with my soul. That's probably a bit deeper of an answer than you were looking for though.

I know AuntGlow isn't back yet, but I'll tag @AuntGlow in because I know she also journals.

@AlwaysMyself When it comes to tagging people on this thread, I’m fairly easy going. There are small number on the forums I don’t tag in anything due to few things that happened on my old account.

more than happy for you to check with me if you are unsure whether to tag someone in this thread or not. 🙂

Re: The me no one knows - SI warning

@Flutterbug9 good to know 🥰😊 thank you.

If the topic of treating others equally / racism comes up again, I might tag them into in. 😊 alternatively, if they mention it in one of the social threads again I might tag you saying you have a great life-value around it. 🥰

@AlwaysMyself I know where you live generally speaking cause of the hints you gave me. Not your address lol just the State\Territory.

What was it like growing up for you? I know your parents are divorced did that happen when you were young?

What’s your favourite foods? Do you get any enjoyment from food?

Oooh what star sign are you? It’s ok not to answer I just have lots of questions 🙂

Re: The me no one knows - SI warning

@Cuddlebear @Flutterbug9 😊

My parent separated when I was 18. But I wish they had separated when i was younger; I remember wishing it when I was 12. I conflicted a lot (as did my sister and my mother, although my mother did not show it usually) with my dad. He is less controlling and verbally-judgemental than he was when we were children or young adults - he had to learn not to be once we moved out, else we would have refused to meet with him.

I moved around a little prior to high school. My "record" is 4 different schools in 4 years lol - due to 3x moving (long distances) and then the first year of high school lol. We moved because of my father's work (no, he was not in defence). I don't remember much from this time though, just "snippets" and stories mostly, or "intellectual facts" about it.

Favourite food... well that would have to be ice cream, followed by M&Ms. Although mostly because I "decided" they would be my "things". But I seem to have always liked and been drawn to ice cream since a young child, so i have been told. I have low-interest in foods, and generally a poor sense of taste - except for a few things that I am very sensitive to and do not like. I have realised over the past few years that I am actually quite sensitive to food texture. I don't get 'enjoyment' from eating food, but ice cream, chocolate and iced coffee are what I feel like when I am feeling tired or depressed as "comfort foods". I recall reading about a study in rats that discovered that naturally rats would choose to eat fatty food (rather than sugary or healthy) when subjected to stress; it made a lot of sense to me when I reflected on which foods I feel like when stressed/upset.

Star sign.. let me look it up lol. I think I am Aries from memory?... Yep, I am Aries. I can joke maybe that is why I like miniature and baby goats? (really I just like them because they are playful and explorative like a puppy or kitten lol).

What about yourselves? 😊

(let me see if I can add an extra question too!)

Do you like to watch / listen-to-commentary / follow-rankings-of any sport?

(I don't, although I don't mind watching skateboarding)

@AlwaysMyself @Cuddlebear

It could be viewed that my parents separated when I was 16 yrs, 5mths old.

Lived in 2 places in addition to childhood between 16 and 20yr old

Due to having GI issues plus food intolerances, my food options are fairly limited. Can’t say I have favourite food

star sign. I’m a Gemini.

my favourite colour is purple

watch or follow sports - No to both

@AlwaysMyself @Cuddlebear

As title of this threads says - the me no one knows

Long time ago I “learnt” safest way to do things is go with the flow, stay quiet, answering when spoken to and replying appropriately. I “learnt” not to speak up for myself and to hide my true emotions. To always appear that everything was 100% good regardless if I was breaking into hundreds of pieces inside

things a part of me has never forgotten

who is the ‘real me’, I honestly don’t know

Re: The me no one knows - SI warning

@Flutterbug9 i have generally masked too, only few people see the "real" me -- hence the title of my thread too. I had noticed your title was also quite similar and figured it may be a similar feeling of hidding what really goes on underneath. Even now, i often feel it hard to tell some things to even my mum or closest/trusted friend or even counsellor. I can more honest here more easily.

Purple is also my favourite colour. 🥰😍

Oh, i am lactose intolerant 😅 and have GI issues too. But i like dairy too much 🥲 so i moderate how much and what i have; ice cream, iced coffee and cheese are worth it in moderation lol. And sometimes these days i can get non-dairy ones.

I have had to cut out pepsi/coke because of my GERD about 10 months ago, but even with that my symptoms have gotten worse over the past 6 months. Even with the tablets its almost constant pain lately; i think i need to temporarily return to twice-daily until it settles again. I'll be seeing gp in a few weeks. He will prob say its worsening is prob due to increased stress, even though i have less stress than i did.

Are you interested to discover who you really are?

The unmasked, genuine, authentic you?

I don't judge. I will accept you however you are.

I like people's unusual quirks and differences - whether they be in how they see the world or their interests or how they go about doing things. It gives life variety. And i like variety.

I have a few "uncommon" interests or perspectives that many people shun. But theyre a part of me and im ok with that - i just dont tell everyone about those parts of me.
