Talking through trauma and PTSD

The me no one knows - SI warning

The me no one knows - SI warning

I’ve made this space to have somewhere safe to talk and share things.

to chat with every one who has shown concern about and for me.

I have spent almost all my life masking, from as far back as primary school (possibly younger).

almost no one knows the real me. Not sure if I even know the real me.

my past is filled with lots of darkness. People I’ve tried to speak with during my life either don’t believe me or don’t want to know

@AlwaysMyself @Bunniekins @Captain24 @Cuddlebear @rav3n @Jynx

hiding behind the mask pretending nothing is wrong. Putting on brave face whilst inside I’m a shattered pieces. Feeling lost and completely alone. No one wants anything to do with me. Relatives only contact when they want something. Going to bed every night hoping to never wake again

Re: The me no one knows - SI warning

@Flutterbug9 Good morning lovely. How are you today?

Sure. I’m happy to share.

My parrot is an eclectus parrot. She’s 5 years old and she speaks many words like hello darling, how are you? She also sings twinkle twinkle little star. She calls my dog by name and says I love you. I’ve had her since she was about 7 months old. She’s tame and smoochy. She’s certainly got a big personality. She likes to fly about and sit on me. She loves shredding toys and wood. My dog is a Labrador he’s just over 2 years old. She’s very loving and gentle. He’s also very clever being a seeing guide dog. My cat is a white cat and he’s a senior. He is also smoochy and loves the sun and sleeping and eating lol.

I’ve got complex ptsd, major depression and anxiety. I’ve had a lot of trauma starting from childhood. I am deaf and blind and have peripheral artery disease. I had a part foot amputation and bypass surgery in my left leg as lots of clots stopping blood flow. This disease is quite awful and hard to live with. I’m ok I’m on medicines but the disease can’t be cured.

Im in my 50’s. I’m alone and struggle with little human contact. The multiple disabilities make it hard.

I have NDIS which helps a bit.

what about you?

Re: The me no one knows - SI warning

@Cuddlebear I’m not long home after approx 4hr drive which was Big mistake. Dull throbbing pain plus sharp stabbing pain off and on in lower back and left hip area.

I have chrome shelving units which are approx 90cm wide and have been trying to get one or two not quite as wide. Managed to find some which are 45cm wide. I could have got them delivered for small cost. Did I …. No. I decided to drive to another town where they were.

After waking about 5am and feeding the cats to stop their meowing I went back to bed, didn’t surface until approx 10am.

where I live has restrictions with number of pets per household. Maximum allowed is 2 cats or dogs (or 1 of each) in total per household. I’ve got 2 cats who will both be 6 in March this year. Both have distinctive markings and are well known here as they sit in front windows or sit at front screen door. They were found on their own as young kittens, vet giving them same birthdate. My boy Sunny is white with ginger tabby markings. My girl Luna is black and white tortoiseshell (calico as some people say). She is black and white. Only ginger she has is her entire nose plus patch on her belly. Both sense when I’m unwell, always have at least one beside me or in my lap on the bad days. They can be affectionate, happy to entertain themselves and go to other extreme of one chasing the other around with hisses at times. They are like unruly kids at times. I wouldn’t be here if wasn’t for them.

Ive got complex PTSD, anxiety and depression. I’ve lived through lot of trauma starting from childhood. First year in high school I cracked 2 discs in my neck area open (can’t remember which exact ones my now). By now have disc degeneration in similar area. I’m third generation with osteoarthritis, areas that area affected the most are my spine plus both hands. I’m an amputee, tops of both big toes due to ingrowing toenails. I’ve had veins in both legs removed using laser ablation due to varicose veins. I’m very thankful cataract surgery in both eyes in 2024 was successful. Before the surgery Opthamologist said if surgery wasn’t successful he would have had to classify legal blind.

I’m in my early 60’s and live on my own in 55+ lifestyle village. Apart from croquet which I play once a week, I can go weeks without seeing anyone. Main reason for decision to sell and move here was if something happened to me it won’t take weeks until neighbours realised something wasn’t right. So much for that idea. I retired from work few years ago, toxic environment with both my physical and mental health suffering.

Double checking - Wilbur is your handsome, intelligent black Labrador. In an earlier post you mentioned Zeus and Athena - who is who?

Re: The me no one knows - SI warning

@Flutterbug9 Yes you are welcome here. @AlwaysMyself was saying they don’t mind us talking and sharing here on this threat. 🙂 So you are very welcome.

Oh wow that is a long drive! Do you have some pain medicine for the headache and lower back and hip pain? The good thing is they are there now. I’m just sorry it’s caused you pain. What will you use them for?

Sunny and Luna are gorgeous names. I’m really glad you’ve found some have them there and that they provide comfort and company too. Cats are funny they can be so smoochy then off they go running around chasing each other. I love their colour markings too. Are they short hair cats?

What’s it like living in a 55 plus place? I’m not yet quite 55 I am 53. I’m on public housing waiting list on priority it’s been 4 years now still waiting. I rent privately. It’s such a small old beaten up place. Takes over 50% of my pension too.

We have a somewhat similar medical history. Certainly with MH. My amputation was from peripheral artery disease. I see a vascular surgeon regularly as the bypass done doesn’t last forever and I have clots still in both legs. Right leg will need surgery at some point and left leg will too. I’m likely to have more of my leg amputated as I age.

Disk degeneration and osteo must be quite painful. Do you have support to help you for daily living etc? My vascular surgeon treats varicose veins too but I don’t have them.

Zeus and Athena are my kitties. Both seniors and Wilbur is a golden lab. Dreamy has a black lab called Caspar!

Oops, slowly getting my head around who has who and what. 😺🦮🐕‍🦺
within the last couple of months I have had RFA (nerve block) plus medical infusion, combination of both has seen my back pain etc ease and cease just be resting.

Will be few steps before unit will be ready (I’ll be combining 2 units to give me exactly what I want). Once ready I’ll be moving some of my Lego buildings onto the new unit so I can put 2 Lego ships (currently in the garage) onto shelving in front bedroom.

Waiting for public housing can take ages. Remember that from when I was employed. Hope you get a suitable house with them soon.

various pros and cons with living in 55 and over village. Are good for people like me who don’t want lot of space at front or back of the unit. Artificial grass in backyards here which is so great. To take full advantage of weekly payments people need to be able to get involved with lot of the activities. I pay my own security and water plus $XXX per week which gives me free access to 2 swimming pools, cinema, tennis court, library and I don’t pay land rates. One thing I like is the security aspect, it’s a gated community.

Luna and Sunny are both short haired. Her coat is quite fine and silky soft to touch. Sunny has a rougher feeling coat and has like an undercoat. She feels the cold and he forever sheds his fur.

most of my physical health issues I’ve had for decades and have got used to ways of doing things, pacing myself etc. flow through of my spine and my big toes is impact on my feet. Having walked on outside of my feet for decades I have been left with nerve damage. GI issues plus allergy to certain meds limits types of pain relief I can take. Heat pack and rest work really well and less meds in my system, take variety of vitamins as recommended by my haematologist

over the years I’ve had 2 white cats, both had blue eyes and medium length taffy coats.

what colour and type of coat etc are Zeus and Athena @Cuddlebear Are they indoor only or do they get to go outdoors? how do your cats and parrot get along?

Re: The me no one knows - SI warning

@Flutterbug9 Ah the units are for Lego display very nice.

Yes waiting for public housing takes quite a while. It’s very frustrating and the rental situation is in crisis point.

It sounds like you live in a lovely secure village with many entertainment options! Security is important and I like how’s there’s pools and even a theatre! Wow!

Im glad you have found ways to help you with the medical conditions. It can be challenging and finding ways without medication is always best if that’s possible. It’s sounds like you can do that which I’m really happy about.

My cats are white with long hair. It’s soft and silky. One had blue eyes and the other has 1 blue eye and 1 yellow eye. 🙂 They’re very pretty and I got them many years ago from the animal rescue.

Re: The me no one knows - SI warning

@Cuddlebear Apparently both pools are full length lap pools. Each pool is in a different building, one building each end of the village. Info about the pools is they are both magnesium pools which have lower levels of chlorine than other indoor pools, levels that are too high to be safe for me.

Theatre operates 2 days week, one in evening and one in afternoon. Majority of the time I’ve been here I have felt safe including walking 20mins from theatre to my place late at night. In 2024 I was involved in various activities. being housebound whilst recovering from cataract surgeries in Oct and Nov that year led to me self isolating for majority of 2025.

There was a period of time where “things” were happening late at night or in early hours of the morning. Formal reports were lodged with police and management with management issuing formal letter to all residents. I’ve got one security camera on front wall of my place. Want to get another one plus doorbell with camera. Can view everything on my phone.

Im getting quotes later this month in hope to be able to get alfresco blinds installed, provide shade for back sliding doors plus secure area for cats to be in.

Im 3rd generation with OA, my symptoms starting when I was in my 20’s. I remember the impact on my mums joints plus verbal knowledge of how her mum dealt with joint pain. I saw meds/patches my husband used for his OA pain gradually increase in strength until reached highest strength. As part of loosing interest in almost everything about year ago I’ve not done my strengthening exercises.

Cat with 2 different coloured eyes, quite unique.

from childhood I’ve always had cats. Have also had dogs, rabbits. My parents had budgies and canaries in cages in room that was used as kitchen (eventually became my bedroom) plus had rosellas in an outdoor cage

should have said earlier, please feel free to ask me anything anytime. I’m happy to share. From a newborn, my “normal” was anything but normal.

Re: The me no one knows - SI warning

@Flutterbug9 @Cuddlebear I've been enjoying (wrong word, but you know what I mean I think) reading along and getting to know a bit more about you both. 🙂. Also welcome to ask me anything if you want to. If there is something I don't want to share, I won't - but I don't mind people asking. 😊 E.g. I don't state where I live specifically, but occasionally I drop clues for people who I trust & chat to a lot here 😉😉.

Re: The me no one knows - SI warning

I’m same with sharing info about town or state I live in.
Things I say at times can give hints.

as my new psychologist has said “trust is earnt overtime and happens naturally, can’t force or make it happen”

Im tend to be bit slow on picking up on hints @AlwaysMyself, all good.

@Cuddlebear @AlwaysMyself I enjoy talking with both of you and appreciate the help, support and understanding you both have shown me

Re: The me no one knows - SI warning

Well, you'll prob know from other threads where I currently am and also other threads how long my drive home will be tomorrow?

As for hints (and this wasn't intentional in my previous message, I've only just thought of it now lol) ... if I said I don't "state" my location... would that give a clue along with the above info matching to it? A bit of a word-play. Guarding locations can be a bit "territorial" @Flutterbug9 . 😉🤣
