Talking through trauma and PTSD

The me no one knows - SI warning

The me no one knows - SI warning

I’ve made this space to have somewhere safe to talk and share things.

to chat with every one who has shown concern about and for me.

I have spent almost all my life masking, from as far back as primary school (possibly younger).

almost no one knows the real me. Not sure if I even know the real me.

my past is filled with lots of darkness. People I’ve tried to speak with during my life either don’t believe me or don’t want to know

@AlwaysMyself @Bunniekins @Captain24 @Cuddlebear @rav3n @Jynx

hiding behind the mask pretending nothing is wrong. Putting on brave face whilst inside I’m a shattered pieces. Feeling lost and completely alone. No one wants anything to do with me. Relatives only contact when they want something. Going to bed every night hoping to never wake again

Majority of the time aim the same @AlwaysMyself

I can read what others have shared, I’ve physically sat with and listened while others have shared “unpleasant/horrific” things with hardly ever being triggered by it.

previous psychologist used to on semi regular basis say similar wording about coping mechanisms from the past helped keep me safe, now no longer not appropriate. Something in her tone, the broken record aspect plus her semi regular words of “Little girl” never sat comfortably.

TW box needed @moderator

worst incident involved me between garage door and front of car. Came far too close, was never hit though

my father played golf. Think you can put 2 and 2 together re close but never hit

100% . So many "memories" of my childhood are just things I have been told and/or shown photos of and then been told about.

I also have 2 memories that I never knew if they were real. One was a memory of a specific drink bottle lol (how simple lol!) which my mum confirmed I did have one like that when I was about 3. No idea why I had some form of memory of it -- it is possible I had seen it in a photo later on even, I have no clue.

My other one I had thought was just a dream that I was remembering (years later), until I mentioned it once to my sister that "I had a dream where..." and she told me that it wasn't a dream, it was real and she remembered it lol.

Putting a padlock on the door is a sign of real threat. I am sorry that home life was like that. Was this only post-stroke? Or also pre-stroke?

Just being cautious with TW box for SA-adjacent

I remember one of our bathrooms didn't have a lock on the door; I remember my mum mandated that my dad got one put on because his father was going to visit us and stay over (and I didn't feel safe without the lock). I remember we got a simple latch put on, and then his father also ended up not coming to visit/stay (I don't recall why - it's actually quite possible that my mum may have just put her foot down and said he wasn't allowed to).

I don't think I ever had to see him again after. She would help me make excuses to not have to go to visit the grandparents (e.g. "has to work"). He passed away before his wife, so I did not go to his funeral (made an excuse, and she was beginning to have dementia by that time). I went and visited her before she passed away (but was already in advanced dementia and only sporadically remembered who I was), and I was able to go to her funeral too.

PS - I googled the "Van Cat" - I had not heard of them. They are pretty 😍. Heads and tail kitty lol.

“Never assume”. Something I say or make reference to at different times.

through different aspects of my life I’ve leant not to assume

eg - being deaf doesn’t auto mean person can’t hear anything

- in a wheelchair doesn’t auto mean person has no ability to walk

topic I have very strong feelings and beliefs about and easily take offence to way group abc treat group xyz

Re: The me no one knows - SI warning

So sorry to hear you went through that and those concerns @AlwaysMyself

Every child should be able to, and is entitled to, feel safe in their home and with family

woman I knew few years ago, as part of marriage counselling, counsellor pieced together what she was describing from childhood memories was her grandfather grooming her. Her mum admitting she was his youngest granddaughter, the older girls they didn’t know what was happening with them. Explained why no grandchild had seen him since his youngest granddaughter was first yr primary

Just after 11pm here. I’m off to bed. Aiming to get to supermarkets before 8am tomorrow

ive shared more of my past than ever before.

hope gives some info about what goes through my head at times.

people ask for source of triggers, uuummm where to start. Trigger that happen on day xyz might not happen again (or not for some time) . Anniversary dates, some years trigger, other years don’t. I can’t predict what and when will trigger, one of the challenging things

Re: The me no one knows - SI warning

Hoping you've been able to get yourself to the supermarket this morning as planned. 😊

I'm going to go sit at a cafe whilst my mum & her friend go on a walk, then they go to the cafe after. So I figure why not go and do my painting there outside for a bit. I've known my mums friend well for a long time now, as we both did aqua-aerobics together a few times a week, plus played games together between our families. Hence she & mum invite me to join them for the walk and/or coffee anytime.

One of the 2 annual boardgame conventions this weekend. However, I am not planning to go. But my friends are, hence why we aren't meeting tonight for our usual DnD. It will be so hot there, in a big shed without aircon or proper ventilation. And the parking is horrible when there is an event, and public transport from when I am is a lot of time (non-direct routes through suburbs) and effort (changing buses at least 2 or 3 times).

I have my cafe friends though, which are different friends. They will still be meeting in the afternoon if I want to join them.

Hope you also spend some time for yourself today, doing a hobby. 😊

Has your new lego arrived yet? or any ETA on it?

Hi @Flutterbug9

I have gone through the post now and will reply to email shortly, I have been on since 4am sorry this seemed to be overlooked "as a request for a trigger warning" - I will flag this for the "daytime mods" so they can assist with the application of the trigger warning.

Apologies again for this.

We are here to support you and yes it hard to pick when a trigger will come up, so it is something we need to know so we can support you best.

Please keep engaging with the community and as mods we will keep working on providing you with the best support - take care and be kind to you 🙂

Mindee 🙂

Thanks @Mindee

to have a post which I tagged 10ish last night (ie approx 11hrs ago) highlighting need for trigger warning box so others on the forums have option to read or not and to find out nothings has been actioned …. It leaves me with feelings of sadness, frustration and concerns (concerns for others on the forums)

thanks for updating me with the information. Fingers crossed the TW box is put on that post very, very soon

Morning @AlwaysMyself

After checking one of my posts on this thread and sending/ posting few messages I got to the supermarket.

already 25 outside. Atm both feet are uncomfortable, shoes and socks off soon.

Currently working on this oneWaiting on this one

ETA for one I’m waiting is mid next week.

start of Feb and lot of activities start.

- croquet each Wednesday morning

- trivia each 3rd Wednesday afternoon of the month

movie playing at the cinema one Sunday afternoon soon which I’m interested in watching

wanting to find out what “drumming exercise” is that is on calendar. Trying not to assume

Hairdresser on 3 feb, morning tea with one friend on 5 feb, lunch with another friend on 9 feb.

Thats nice your mum and her friend in Friend invite you to join them. Time outdoors, company …. Sounds lovely 🙂

Im not a big fan of public transport at best of times. Has its place though. Having to change multiple times, I’m with you …. Pass

Sundays. Opportunity to catch up with friends or not?

any change to dog sitting duties and days for your ex this weekend?

as a teenager , through church i used to attend, Australia Day public holiday was day at a local beach. Lots of trees that would have been planted decades earlier for shade, concrete picnic tables and benches amongst the trees. Others going swimming, me too scared to even go out to knee depth (I can and do laugh by now).

used to be model train convention in my area on this weekend, forgot about that. Might do some investigating. I haven’t forgot to take some photo for you. To give you rough idea, height of model trains I collect would be about same height as a Lego person (rough approximate)

Re: The me no one knows - SI warning

That sounds like some great activity plans in the upcoming weeks. 🙂

I lioe both your city legos 🙂. Trains the size of lego figurines! Wow that is a very small scale indeed! Very cute i bet. I like miniature things.

Just got home. Tired now. We did grocery shop at aldi on way home. Going into aldi i said i need to clean my jewellery because i keep forgetting to change my earings and put them in because they got too dirty.

Guess what aldi had in a special buy? An ultrasonic cleaner which i can use for jewelery.

Guess what else it had? A blood pressure monitor lol. Didnt expect to spend $$ but oh well. Both good purchases for longterm.
