Self care by growing a garden

Self care by growing a garden

A SOS to any green thumbs out there

I have always found gardening to be therapeutic and it has given me great joy. However, after a major crisis with Mr Darcy's health I have not had been able to get back into it. Have other gardeners suffered from a similar hiatus and how have you recovered and got going again?

Darcy

PS have a spot that needs filling any recommendations for a 1m high cool climate white flower plant?

@Appleblossom were you the one who was going to write a book about, stuff on the forums?

Next step for my garden is too... Get an almond tree going and plop it... Smack bang in the centre of the yard... (another 30 year vision of mine......)

I'm thinking about investing in a half decent mulcher... And some garden tools... Like, a few small hand saws, those cutter and clipper things... A ladder... Plus I got too building a mulch pile, make a chook yard... Maybe even build a shelter...

Are you looking forward to the opening rains and spring time? I know... I am...

Eude.

Yes @eudemonism I had hoped to do something like that .. more about MH in general than these forums. I have had my hands full with my son and had my confidence for such a project dashed by a "friend" of his. Just singing like mad, paddling on the spot keeping head above water.

However this week I chatted with a lady and saw some positive direction for that dream. We will see what the future brings. I am not whipping myself over it, as I truly have had enough on my plate. I will need to develop and change my writing practice.

Yes I do like the passing of all the seasons.

My brother bought a mulcher over 30 years ago. He was stuck in the country in a super conservative and defensive family system with a heavily damaged wife. Yeah we were both greenies stuck in Country Party territory. Not good soil for him. He had his faults. We all have flaws. But he was ahead of his time in many ways and I always loved him.

@Former-MemberI love those books .. fabulous idea.

@Appleblossom I can feel that there is so much story behind your writing. Perhaps a story that is longing to be expressed, revealed and told through your character? Eude.

@Smc Got one of our garden beds dug over this morning, have planted some out of date leek seeds. Hens are scratching in our ornamental garden, hounds are missing their runs out there, chook v whippet = bad news. Looks like we might have 2 roosters in the first lot of chicks.

@Former-Member I've had some surprising succeses from very out of date seeds. I had some celosias that were nearly 20 years over germinate, then they dried out and I lost them.

I've grown Iceland Poppies from seedlings, but have never had success with the seeds. They're one of my favourite types, but I haven't had a good run with them here. I did grow a beautiful lot of them years ago in a Melbourne garden. Will keep trying here.

I have had great results with other types of poppies, especially peony poppies.
