Self care by growing a garden

Self care by growing a garden

A SOS to any green thumbs out there

I have always found gardening to be therapeutic and it has given me great joy. However, after a major crisis with Mr Darcy's health I have not had been able to get back into it. Have other gardeners suffered from a similar hiatus and how have you recovered and got going again?

Darcy

PS have a spot that needs filling any recommendations for a 1m high cool climate white flower plant?

We also have this one, Papaver setigerum, self seeding around our garden, and a few Flanders Poppies turn up too. 🙂

Might try some seedlings, was after the orange and yellow toned colours @Smc. A friend grows beautiful peony poppies. Found Californian poppies easy to grow in Victoria, perhaps should try them. Have had some success with the red and black ladybird poppies.

Hi @Former-Member - yes you did see somewhere that I like gardening

I'm a fairly new green thumb and am enjoying decking out my balcony and apartment with lots of green. I was given a trumpet vine (potted) not too long ago and got a lattice and its climbing BEAUTIFULLY which feels like a big win for me as I am an ex- black thumb!

Going to leave some of them here for you all to enjoy

Yes @eudemonism I had hoped to do something like that .. more about MH in general than these forums. I have had my hands full with my son and had my confidence for such a project dashed by a "friend" of his. Just singing like mad, paddling on the spot keeping head above water.

However this week I chatted with a lady and saw some positive direction for that dream. We will see what the future brings. I am not whipping myself over it, as I truly have had enough on my plate. I will need to develop and change my writing practice.

Yes I do like the passing of all the seasons.

My brother bought a mulcher over 30 years ago. He was stuck in the country in a super conservative and defensive family system with a heavily damaged wife. Yeah we were both greenies stuck in Country Party territory. Not good soil for him. He had his faults. We all have flaws. But he was ahead of his time in many ways and I always loved him.

@Former-MemberI love those books .. fabulous idea.

@Appleblossom I think I've gotten the upper hand of me kelpie x collie... He's sleeping on the rug in front of the TV... I can tell he's contented and not real worried about anything as he knows he's been living a fully stimulated life... That has tired him out...

I enjoy being amongst the life of my garden... The odd morning when I'm out there in amongst the green foliage... And watching the life grow... It's what makes it worth while... I'm going out there to water the aloe vera plants today... The garden hose has been trickling on the young fig tree all night... The garden is In a quiet stage at the moment... We're heading into winter... And there won't be a lot happening out there until next spring... The list of things I need to do in my garden never ends... And at the top of that list... Is too enjoy it... For the life and good feelings that it gives... Alas, down the garden path... I go again... I anticipate the harvest of my first figs... Like I anticipate the break of spring... My garden is full of good feelings and good things...

Eude.

Re: Self care by growing a garden

It used to be a popular pastime for people to whinge about working in the garden. It just put me off both them. their self righteousness and the idea of even having a garden. Maybe its just me or I must not have met people who actually loved it too. So I was focussed on wildreness and habitat during my early decades. It has taken a long time for me to have both a garden and the time to actually work in it.

Loving this positive meaningful and beautiful thread.
