Self care by growing a garden

Self care by growing a garden

A SOS to any green thumbs out there

I have always found gardening to be therapeutic and it has given me great joy. However, after a major crisis with Mr Darcy's health I have not had been able to get back into it. Have other gardeners suffered from a similar hiatus and how have you recovered and got going again?

Darcy

PS have a spot that needs filling any recommendations for a 1m high cool climate white flower plant?

Re: Self care by growing a garden

'Morning all.

@eudemonism My garden's set up on "food forest" lines too. I've planted fruiting trees closer together than they'd usually be, with the aim that when mature, the crowns should overlap each other just a little. My two figs aren't big enough to be bearing yet. The Brown Turkey has been sluggish. I don't think it likes the soil I put it in. Should be 2-3 times the size it is by now. I've also got another variety in a pot. I know where I want to plant it, but am waiting for autumn.

Understory has a lot of shrubs, both fruiting and flowering, plus herbs, irises, bulbs and annuals. Italian Parsley self seeds all over the place, as does a frilly local lettuce, borage and lemon balm. I used to get silverbeet self seeding, but it's mostly disappeared over the past year, so I think I need to bring in fresh genes. (i.e. fresh seeds or plants...) I have has chervil self seeding too, but didn't get much coming up last year, so I'll see if it makes a return this year. Hoping it does. There's also a lot of self seeding flowers, which cheer up the garden, bring in the insects, and some of those are edible one way or another too. Home harvested poppy seed, yum...

@Smc

this is my type of garden...I have attempted in some areas..

just all too large and too much to handle now...

have oregano..curry plant..rosemary...lavender english and french...salvia....hibiscus...colourful ground covers that I don't know names of..

ornament pear tree...apricot tree which is 30 years or more old...beautiful..

clivia...geraniums...rosemary...bromeliads...irises....bulbs...lilies...camelia....ficus trees in large pot that are trying to push through top of return verandah....kangaroo paws....bird of paradise...callistemon...varying gum trees ...roses....and more

cant wait until house is sold and I can have a more manageable garden now ...I do love gardening...

I think that this is another reason for my isolating...all too hard...too much...too overwhelming..just thought of that then...great thing about writing down thoughts...will discuss that during my next session..

nature is so healing

My fig is booming and I know they grow very big but I figure it will be worth it. I have this vision of high yielding fruit trees. And bits and pieces of veggies, herbs and medicinal plants. However, it's easier said than done. I have that emotional memory of eating home grown stuff and seeing high yielding fruit trees. Which makes me want it for myself.

You need to be on the ball with each passing season. And be ready to do what needs to be done.

It's a step bye step process which never ends. Kind of frustrating actually. If you know what I mean?

Eude.
