Why is there no support.

Why is there no support.

I feel exhausted looking after my adult daughter; she is so sad, all the time. I feel there is nothing left to give her to help her feel wanted, or loved. In the last few weeks she has become super sad; nothing excites her will to do anything; nor help her self.

I know I am I have not failing her yet; but I will if I cant find more energy to keep this up. I too have my own life responsibilities; this cant keep happening; its in tolerable.

Why isn't there help for her out there; there is nothing between ED/admission and a psychologist.

So disappointed at the mental health system; she's had a case managers for 2 years. But has she gotten better -no. Has she been diagnosed with multiple conditions - yes. Is she stable without constant support - barely. Why do they just eject people with no real continuity planning. THey just hand balled her to NDIS hoping they will pick up the slack. Yet that takes time - like 4 months and counting.

Re: Why is there no support.

Good morning @Ramman thank you for reaching out and sharing what you're currently experiencing. It makes sense that you might be feeling exhausted, looking after someone struggling with their mental health can have a significant impact on our own energy levels. I certainly hear your concern, especially as the last few weeks sound like you've noticed a change in her.

I am glad that you can recognise that you are not failing her. What is it that you need for yourself first? You mentioned that your energy is a little depleted, what might help to reserve some energy for your own life responsibilities? Sometimes starting small, even if it is recognising what you might need first, and then working out if you are willing to try something to help you first.

It is great to ask questions about how it feels there's no/not enough help for her out there. Do you have a sense of what your daughter might need or want if there was support?

Re: Why is there no support.

Someone to talk to; be her friend; someone to keep her safe.

Her level of suicidality is very high currently but with out means, or a time. Which places her on the very upper limit of what I can safely manage at home.

No one issue/items has caused this but has escalated over 3 weeks.

hi @Ramman sorry to hear how hard its been supporting your daughter while also trying to make time for your own life. being carer can be a draining, and both you and your daughter deserve to feel supported.

just wanted to let you know that you can tag members you're responding to by using the @ symbol and typing the username. once you select it, it'll turn blue like this @TeaPositive, which means the tagged member will be notified of your response. hope this helps!

@TeaPositive above response from @Ramman is for you 😊

Re: Why is there no support.

Would it be time for her to develop her own life outside of the family culture and perhaps find meaning within her own growth and challenges? AKA, move out and establish independence, let the parent be free and let herself be free too.

@Sugarshack Thanks for your feedback.

If she wanted to move she is welcome to. However she does not have a job, is studying PT, and struggling every day. Given her instability I believe it would be reckless as a parent.

Re: Why is there no support.

There is a point that kids never grow up if their parents provide them with everything, and they are a lot of the "rich kids" i see who go to therapy all the time, dont have jobs etc they arent miserable from mental illness they're miserable cause they grew up but still live as children under their parents umbrella of safety and provision of resources, as in mental strength comes from needing to be strong in life not from being too comfortable.

Re: Why is there no support.

@Ramman it makes total sense that you'd want your daughter feel safe and have company. outta curiousity, does your daughter have a support worker? if not, would she be open to having one?

also wondering if your daughter has attended support groups before, and if she'd be open to trying them too?

Re: Why is there no support.

@Sugarshack

I have seen this as well.

However I am confident that its more serious than over parenting.

She has been diagnosed ASD/BPD/Perfectionism/Depression/Derealization, hospitalised, had more than 4 years of therapy; with very slow progress.

I also agree with you that mental strength comes with seeing your victories, achievements, outcomes. This is what powers you to believe in yourself; that you can do it. However suffering the above stop will stop you wanting to live.

Re: Why is there no support.

We are getting support worker/ OT/ etc under NDIS.

But its slow getting it all set up.

Re: Why is there no support.

Woah! What a massive assumption and very judgemental attitude about a Mother doing her best to support her daughter through depression.

@Sugarshack you may have seen whoever, but you have not met or assessed this woman's daughter.
