how do you tell someone with schizophrenia their delusion is not real

Hi everyone my middle son who i have written about has a fantastical delusion which he has had since he was about 16 now he is 32 and he still has this delusion. i have been going along with this delusion for all this time and i was wondering if it was the time to tell him it is a delusion part of his schizophrenia. how do i do it? it is getting to the stage where he is beginning to doubt this delusion will get into fruition (the delusion is really complicated i would prefer not to get into it here). what should i do? he looks at me as his mother to come up with all the answers. i am exhausted by all the drama and the lies i just want to tell him the truth if it is safe to do so. what should i do?

@MissGremlin thanks hunny i just feel that i have to do something then i remember he really is ill, he is not normal therefore will he just create another delusion maybe one which is bad to replace this one which is quite childlike and innocent but annoying because it ends up upsetting him. i just dont know what to do ..

@Bunniekins I hear you sweet. It's hard to know how he will react. I'm hoping his psychologist gets back to you and has some idea of how to help. Just be sure to look after yourself sweet ❤️

Firstly, I am so glad you made this post and that you are asking for the support you need - good on you!

Secondly, this sounds so incredibly challenging... and it must be painfully confusing for you too. I agree that both honesty and safety are important here. Does he have clinical supports at the moment? If so, I am wondering if you can talk with them for more guidance?

Also, I am going to tag my wonderful colleague @RiverSeal who may be able to share some thoughts on this too. 🥰

I'm just hoping his psychologist will get back to you asap and have a plan or approach...

@StuF well they have been talking to him because he came in today for his coffee all angry at me about stuff. i thought oh dear i wish they contacted me to warn me.
