~ Toolshed 2: Power Tools for Recovery ~

Hey hi hello! Welcome to the second iteration of...

~ The Toolshed ~

I decided to make a new thread, as the first one had errors and phantom pages, and was getting quite long! You can still find all the amazing pics, inspiring quotes, and uplifting messages of the first Toolshed here.

What is the Toolshed? Ain't a place to hang your hammer! Hehe this is a space where we can share the things that have helped us in our recovery. Tools, coping skills, inspiring ideas, and messages of hope and growth, is what this space is all about!!

You can stay connected and up to date on this space by favouriting, or by subscribing to the thread - head to the top of the page, and find the three dots to the right of the thread title (next to the star), click, and from the drop down menu you can 'favourite' or 'subscribe' - and clicking the star itself will also favourite the thread for you.

Favourite threads are then always available in your favourites list which should appear on the right hand side of most forums pages - or you can go to your profile and scroll down to the 'Favourites' section under your recent posts.

If you subscribe, it means that you will get a notification every time someone posts something new in the thread. So up to you if you simply want it to be always accessible, or if you want all the updates, or both!

I invite anyone who wishes to contribute to do so! It doesn't have to be pictures, it can be discussion, questions, videos, whatever you like! So without further ado, here's my latest batch!

'MI is so isolating.

And the term Mental health issues is bandied around waay too much

Those of us who really struggle to get through each day are lost in the crowd.'

So true! i found that even psychiatrist, who you think would understand, often contradict their own theories.

i have had psychs from being total indifference to my suffering, to denying i was suffering, to blaming me for my suffering.

Of course i had also those who were extremely helpful. The psychiatrist who broke mental illness to me literally greeted me waking up in hospital. i still remembering opening my eyes, wondering where the hell i was, and then him sitting next to me smiling kindly. He was by far the kindest psych i met tho. Most play seem to play a 'guess game' psychiatric pill prescribing. Sometimes with disastrous effects on me. And not just massive weight gain and feeling totally wiped out and dead inside.

i remember one meds that seemed to work. For from day one taking it, i could feel myself improving almost daily. i was so excited at the time.

But then when visited my GP, (thank God i did,) for something totally unrelated and he checked my heart rate. Suddenly my dream of healing was shattered. For after some sharp questions about my new medication, and the dosage i was now on. My doctor to my growing alarm ordered an ambulance to the surgery. And i heard him ring the hospital telling them to prepare a bed in the intensive care unit.

It was then he turned to me and told me not to be too alarmed but my heart rate was over 240, so my life could be in danger because of the meds i was taking and i had to go to hospital straight away. The ambulance was on the way for i was not allowed to drive like that., but i could not keep taking it.

That was the most sobering thing i ever heard someone say when i felt fine. my heart beating loudly often my anxiety spells, so i had not taken any notice, although i was short of breath but i thought i was my because of my asthma.

This song sums it up so well i reckon.

OH @DownMoreThanUp

That GP probably saved your life!

Unbelievable that your heart rate was so incredibly high and you still functioned.

I've had good and bad psychologists and psychiatrists and been on dodgy meds.

I had one psych who almost had me convinced that I was abused as a child 😂

Another who put me an anti-psychotic medication that really drove me crazy!!

I woke up in the street one night??

Luckily I have now got a good team around me. So am comfortable with that, until they retire.

I strongly urge everybody to take good care and follow your own feelings.

If in any doubt. Seek further advice.

Night Babe.

I hope you have a peaceful rest 💕 @Lozenge

I'm keen to know how you find the dbt group. I didn't get much out of it but that could be because I was a reluctant participant or because I really didn't like the facilitator.

Re: ~ Toolshed 2: Power Tools for Recovery ~

@Taali @DownMoreThanUp I've had my share of good and bad too. One psych nurse traumatised me while I was in hospital, awful woman. I had a psychologist who talked more about herself than offered me help. And a psychiatrist whilst in hospital saw me for 5 minutes, declared me safe and sent me home with the same medication that had caused me to be in a psych ward in the first place.

My latest one is wonderful and I will miss her when I finish my sessions.

My GP retired at the beginning of the year and I have had to find another one. Although he is very nice I miss my old GP because he knew me. I am giving the new one a chance, will see how he goes I guess.

Re: ~ Toolshed 2: Power Tools for Recovery ~

Yes I'm lucky to have finally landed a good team. @ENELKI

My GP is wonderful but, like yours is retiring at the end of next year. He has suggestions that I intersperse my visits with a colleague who he trusts.

My mental health support nurse is looking to move on as she is very unhappy with her management team, as am I, she's brilliant and has even told me that she'd still visit me....

My psychiatrist is very good, but I don't see him very often. I keep my case with him to maintain his opportunity to admit to the private mental health facility

Hopefully you can continue to to receive the support you need.

There are definitely some shonky providers out there.
