~ Toolshed 2: Power Tools for Recovery ~

Hey hi hello! Welcome to the second iteration of...

~ The Toolshed ~

I decided to make a new thread, as the first one had errors and phantom pages, and was getting quite long! You can still find all the amazing pics, inspiring quotes, and uplifting messages of the first Toolshed here.

What is the Toolshed? Ain't a place to hang your hammer! Hehe this is a space where we can share the things that have helped us in our recovery. Tools, coping skills, inspiring ideas, and messages of hope and growth, is what this space is all about!!

You can stay connected and up to date on this space by favouriting, or by subscribing to the thread - head to the top of the page, and find the three dots to the right of the thread title (next to the star), click, and from the drop down menu you can 'favourite' or 'subscribe' - and clicking the star itself will also favourite the thread for you.

Favourite threads are then always available in your favourites list which should appear on the right hand side of most forums pages - or you can go to your profile and scroll down to the 'Favourites' section under your recent posts.

If you subscribe, it means that you will get a notification every time someone posts something new in the thread. So up to you if you simply want it to be always accessible, or if you want all the updates, or both!

I invite anyone who wishes to contribute to do so! It doesn't have to be pictures, it can be discussion, questions, videos, whatever you like! So without further ado, here's my latest batch!

Cuddlebears Space Yes, I’m right there with you, friend. I am finding everything very tough at the moment too.

It might sound a bit strange, but I just wanted to jump in and say a quick hello—even though I’m feeling incredibly spaced out right now, just saying hi actually makes me feel a bit better.

@PeppyPatti My beautiful friend. We can go through this tough time together. You don’t have to do it all by yourself. We’re here and we understand the struggles of one another.

It is awesome you jumped in to say hello. I love hearing from you.

Thanks to everyone for sharing your power tools for recovery here on the discussion thread. What a great collection!

As I’ve been dealing with poor mental health over the past 4 weeks - housing and uni issues with my best friend and the stress causing my mental health to go downhill which has now improved thanks to securing housing and being away from uni accommodation- I’ve been utilising the following strategies and tools to help me:

- Daily journaling in my 365 journal

- Knitting in the form of baby beanies and 2 kids jumpers

- Listening to music on my iPhone via Apple Music including downloading new artists such as Amber Lawrence

- Crocheting a blanket

- spraying eucalyptus spray to help me focus and distract myself and my thoughts

- Watching sport on tv - Brisbane Lions and AFL as well as Queensland in the rugby league State of Origin on Wednesday night (team Queensland thanks to Billy Slater coaching and his links to Melbourne Storm).

Now as I’m on uni holidays and have finally submitted the last of my uni assessments today and have secured housing - got offered 2 rentals in 2 days just over 2 weeks ago and move in Monday - I’m hoping my mental health improves and I can finally chill out and relax. I’ve been dealing with the local mental health service since things happened on 26/5 and am linked in with them until the end of the month and things have started to improve since I helped my friend secure housing and will possibly end the support as I feel better mentally and feel that I can now handle things better. Knitting beanies has been good for me as I’ve enjoyed being productive and creative along with knowing that a baby will be warm as well when they get given it. Since living out of uni accommodation in temporary housing, I’ve been sleeping a lot better and this has improved once I was given a rental property, despite it being an expensive exercise. Writing in my daily journal has also helped me with my mental health as I’ve been able to write down my thoughts and reflect on the previous day and what has happened. This reflective writing skill is something I’ve also had to do as part of my social work subject uni assessment as being able to reflect on things learnt and experienced is an essential skill to becoming a good social worker- my future career path which I’m studying to become at uni via my Bachelor of Social Work degree.

Over the next few weeks once I’m settled in my new house, I’d like to get back into cross stitching and doing some diamond art painting again which I’ve missed doing. I’m also hoping to get back into reading several novels and doing some word puzzles which I find to be challenging yet enjoyable at the same time. Going to the movies to see Toy Story 5 is also on the agenda once I watch the other 4 movies via Disney Plus as I’m yet to see them.

Take care.
