~ Toolshed 2: Power Tools for Recovery ~

Hey hi hello! Welcome to the second iteration of...

~ The Toolshed ~

I decided to make a new thread, as the first one had errors and phantom pages, and was getting quite long! You can still find all the amazing pics, inspiring quotes, and uplifting messages of the first Toolshed here.

What is the Toolshed? Ain't a place to hang your hammer! Hehe this is a space where we can share the things that have helped us in our recovery. Tools, coping skills, inspiring ideas, and messages of hope and growth, is what this space is all about!!

You can stay connected and up to date on this space by favouriting, or by subscribing to the thread - head to the top of the page, and find the three dots to the right of the thread title (next to the star), click, and from the drop down menu you can 'favourite' or 'subscribe' - and clicking the star itself will also favourite the thread for you.

Favourite threads are then always available in your favourites list which should appear on the right hand side of most forums pages - or you can go to your profile and scroll down to the 'Favourites' section under your recent posts.

If you subscribe, it means that you will get a notification every time someone posts something new in the thread. So up to you if you simply want it to be always accessible, or if you want all the updates, or both!

I invite anyone who wishes to contribute to do so! It doesn't have to be pictures, it can be discussion, questions, videos, whatever you like! So without further ado, here's my latest batch!

@AuntGlow i have just finished a session with my therapist. i had a reasonable day today a lot of anxiety this morning, i been struggling for more than a week with an anxious mood. However it was great meeting up with my wife. i bought her a new laptop and then we have a cuppa's together and talk for a bit. It was great seeing her, anmd even better giving her a hug and a kiss. She looked well.

She told me her therapist wasn't really helping her all that much and that now she is onto a different group of counsellors. They are Christian and operate in Perth as well as Albany, and she would get media care support through them as well. So she was hopeful better help could come from there from there were also psychologist and we both agreed that is much more what she needs, just like i got as well. So hopefully she will be able to move forward. She has her living arrangement sorted and can stay for as long as it takes, so that helps a lot. Friday, on her birthday we are planning to go for a hike and lunch afterwards, that is if i'm well enough. She called of all the others so she could spend the day with me. i was impressed about that.

At the moment i'm fine. A bit excited from the counselling, we did some deep work together.

Hoping you are okay?

How has therapy been feeling for you overall? And how has anxiety-brain been this week?@DownMoreThanUp 🥰

Aww that is so, so sweet. How often have you been seeing her?

It sounds like you're both working so hard to get individual support and care - which you should be so proud of. 🫶

How was her birthday?!

I am doing well, I have been a little sick this weekend and a bit busy with some theatre things/study, but overall well. Thank you for asking. ✨

and ide surely question why she would send me these messages ……

@AuntGlow Great to see you around again and to hear you are doing better.

@PeppyPatti @Jynx @Cuddlebear @Mustang67

We see each other 2-3 times a week depending our my, our daughter's and her state of being. We try to see each other twice a week for 3-4 hours and then also spend some time with her and our Down Syndrome daughter. For she had been missing me and i her. (However tensions between me and my wife she cannot cope with so we make sure conversations are light and as inclusive as possible. For our girl will just zone out and sip her drink while we chat for a hour, that is how she is, but of course we want her to interact and share.

Which she loves doing with two or three words.😁

We saw each other today and had a very touchy subject to discuss. Which brought on anxiety in both of us for us discussing how to best proceed the couple counselling we are planning to do on top of our individual counselling to see if we can hurry the getting the back together again phase a little. Hopefully that will work.

Re: ~ Toolshed 2: Power Tools for Recovery ~

@DownMoreThanUp I hear how important the couples counselling is to you, and I love how committed you are to improving things between yourself and your wife. I think it is generally recommended to start with individual therapy first to build personal emotional regulation and self-awareness, which makes couples therapy more effective

When my partner and I were looking at couples counselling, we were told that we had to complete our individual counselling first and then commence couples counselling. As there was no point going into couples counselling with unresolved individual issues that affect the relationship.

I wish you both all the best with your counselling, and I love the fact that you want to hurry the getting back together phase. Your heart is in the right place, and that's a good sign. As I have said before I think the two of you have something special, and it won't matter how long it takes, you will both get there in the end,

Re: ~ Toolshed 2: Power Tools for Recovery ~

@Mustang67 Fully withh you if that was the demand in your marriage but in ours the situation is different. We have no major difficulties apart of those triggers from our pas,t and how they have effected both of us so badly.

@Jynx @PeppyPatti @AuntGlow @Cuddlebear

Me relying on her for stability and not gaining strength on my own steam after doing that for years, which made me very vulnerable.

And she because she missed out on things because she choose to be with me. Because i was so often needy fro so long, and my wife has such a big heart, so supportive and caring, our issues developed over the years. Not relational in the sense that we have problems getting on, much more issues when i become unwell and lean to heavy on her and she feels too guilty for she knows how hard it is for me when i struggle.

So our issues are no trouble couple counselling we both decided knowing what you say is more often than not what needs to happen.

The triggers from my past psychoses are already open subjects between us, and have been for years. But we always let them be for they only happened so rarely, and were painful and difficult, and we did not really understand at the time that such was called a trigger or could be worked on. Usually we felt bad after we or one of us had been triggered and hid in our shell, for we knew we lost that time.

Only recently - like 4 years or so since we began to understand there was more need for healing and we did work through many of them. But these were really bad ones, fro both of us, so we need help. Hence we decided it be better to do them together so we get to understand each other better.

Thanks caring friends. It has been a difficult journey for us both.

ActuallyI need some help.
I received a text message that said that I hadn’t completed a survey. I don’t know what it means. I’m struggling to understand the terminology here, and it really triggered me. I’m not aware of any survey.
Maybe this site is not for me as I’m not confident or competent with online surveys and forms.

Hello @LexieJo,

Thank you for your comment. Please disregard any messages about a survey for now - they aren't as important as the support you get here! 💛

Would you like help navigating the forums?

We have some wonderful people, like @MissGremlin, who can show you the way around.
