Re: disclosing very uncomfortable information

Thank you @Ellu
It wasnt illegal it was something that happened to me 2 years ago that ive held on to until last night when i rang the hotline. I dont think im going to tell my psych yet though but im really not doing too well. I thought it would be relief when i did say something but all i feel is shame embarrassment and disgraced 😞 😞

Re: disclosing very uncomfortable information

There's something inside you that helps you 'power through' then. Trust yourself that whatever that is will stand strong.

What you're describing sounds a lot like trauma (something happening to you) and reminds me a lot of a clip I watched that described experiencing trauma as being a little like fizzy drinks in a bottle sometimes. When shaken the pressure inside gets massive and opening the lid quickly can make everything inside pour out. If the lid is opened in little turns and closed in between, the pressure is released gradually while the contents stay safely inside. Finding someone who can support you to work through it this way might be important.

In the meantime, know you're not alone in feeling like this and, although it might be scary or frustrating or hard, your feelings sound like a normal reaction to something tough.

Re: disclosing very uncomfortable information

@Former-Member. You made it through a very tough night.
You do not have to disclose to anyone. It is up to you who and when you disclose.
But your psychologist can help you through this 'transition' period. You do not need to tell him what the incident was - purely that you did disclose to a help line & now you are struggling. Your psychologist can work with that information only - with your feelings.
That way he can teach you new techniques to help calm your fears and sense of shame.
Take things easy today. And remember, none of this was your fault.

Re: disclosing very uncomfortable information

@Former-Member. Yes you will be triggered today. Disclosing is good and the start of your healing journey. But I don't think you can do it alone. You really need that expert help on working through what is now 'coming up ' for you. Can you call your psych and let him know you are struggling and need an earlier time. If you explain the basics - he may be able to slot you in earlier.
I just don't want you to have to do this on your own.♥♥

Re: disclosing very uncomfortable information

It must have been a very traumatic thing for you to feel so strongly about it. Making the disclosure last night must have affected you deeply. I think it is something you should discuss with your psych next week. A psych is trained to handle these situations and can help you by supporting you and showing you ways you can help yourself cope.

In the meantime, maybe the GP can give you an anti-anxiety agent to help you feel less upset and stressed. Take some time to help calm yourself down. A warm cup of tea can relax you. Have you ever done any colouring-in? Newsagents sell adult colouring-in books with beautiful pictures to colour. This sounds silly, but it is a way of relaxing and focussing the mind so that your thoughts don't disdurb you. My 27 year-old son does colouring-in to wind down after a hard day at work. Try to get outdoors - even a walk around the block for some fresh air.

Thinking of you,

Ellu

Re: disclosing very uncomfortable information

yes it was pretty traumatising which i why ive held on to it for so long and becasue i was and still am so ashamed and embarrssed and feel disgraced.

it really has affected me. maybe more than it should. maybe i really am overreacting.

yes i have a colouring book already but when im stressed i dont find it helps it makes it worse as im sitting still and i get really frustrated easy.
