All Things Sport...

All Things Sport...

There are many threads dedicated to sharing experiences - good times and not so good - so I thought I would start a thread for those on here who love their sport. For me - and I suspect for some others - sport is a good distraction as it often blocks out the more negative emotions and helps to avoid triggers that many other things in 'life' so often seem to do.

This thread can also be a place where like-minded (and not so like-minded people @utopia @Former-Member @Zoe7 lol) can 'discuss/debate' their respective competitions in their preferred sport(s).

For those that are definitely NOT into sport @Phoenix_Rising for example - avoid this thread at all costs - whoops just tagged you in..........hahaha!!!!!

Re: All Things Sport...

That is very disappointing @Zoe7 . And surprising given that so many people watch the soccer. Have you checked to see if free to air SBS has it on any of their channels?

It was really nice to see that both Ash and Alex won their tennis matches overnight in the US Open. Especially for Alex who beat the #7 seed in Nishikori. He hasnt beaten a top 10 player before, so good on him. But I always have a smile when Ash wins, even if she is expected to. No match is easy these days, with little between the top players. We have a couple of others still in there too, with Kyrgios and Popyrin.

My Raiders play on Sunday 2pm, so I will be hoping to watch that. Not an easy one for them though.

Re: All Things Sport...

There used to be one game per week on ABC @Former-Member but that has gone too

SBS hasn't had the games for a couple of years. Just have to get updates when I can and can follow scores online.

Great that Ash and Alex won but not at all interested in Kyrgios - could not care less how he goes - his constant bad beahviour and outburst turned me off a long time ago.

Hope your Raiders can pull off a win for you - been a disappointing year for some of your teams

Having no footy on today seems strange - I do not like the bye before finals - think it takes the momentum away from the games. At least it gives me time to do some things - just need to find the motivation.

Yes @Zoe7 I agree about Kyrgios ... he has let himself, and his country, down so many times. Just cannot seem to help himself ... I think a spoilt brat. But he has so much talent, its a real shame. As for Bernard ... well ... enough said. Disowned him years ago. It does seem odd not having any AFL footy on for the weekend.

Re: All Things Sport...

Totally agree with both players @Former-Member - not what we want as representatives of our country - bad attitude, bad behaviour and especially Bernard a sense of entitlement that he hasn't earned ...very disappointing. It just makes those who have worked so hard and are so gracious stand out even more - Ash is the epitome of that and someone that anyone can look up to as a positive role model

I recorded the legends match last night so am going to put that on this afternoon - so I still get my footy in for the weekend

Kyrigois needs a reality check. I do believe he plays the media though - very donald trump like lol.

Di Minaur is great and so is Barty. Both proof of good sporting attitudes.

I am happy that Swansea is on again. They play Leeds tonight. If they win they are top of the table. Which will hopefully help them get promoted by seasons end. Let's see what happens.

Hope Swansea wins for you and can stay on top to be promoted next season @MDT We play Burnley this week so should have a win - expect to anyway!

Di Minaur is a great young talent - very Lleyton Hewitt like in his play too.

Hi @Zoe7 @MDT @Former-Member @Gazza75 @Ant7

Sorry I haven’t been on here for a while- life got in the way but I’m back and feeling very happy right now. Melbourne Storm have just taken out the minor premiership in the NRL due to a win over Manly; my Brisbane Lions are playing finals in the AFL and Ash Barty and Alex Di Minaur are doing great at the US Open. Like several of you, I’m over Nick Kyrgios and don’t care for Bernard Tomic either. I’m hoping that Sunshine Coast Lightening take out the Suncorp Netball series as well.

May your teams have great success whatever the sport as well as your favourite players ☺️

Re: All Things Sport...

Hi @Judi9877 ... great to see you back again. Yep, I totally understand about life getting in the way sometimes. You are of course welcome here on Sane anytime. Pleased to hear you are feeling very happy right now too. 😊💖 I hope your Sunshine Coast netball team does you proud.

You are having a good sporting season by the sounds of it. Yes Melbourne Storm have had another good year and are deserved minor premiers ... again. I am glad that Melbourne beat Manly last night, I was going for them. I am not a Manly fan, but do have a soft spot for Storm. Possibly because their coach used to play for my team, the Canberra Raiders. Who incidentally, play this afternoon. Manly's loss also helps the Raiders in their efforts to finish top 4. So that was also a bonus.

You and @Zoe7 's Lions have had a great year, I have to say. So good after a couple of lean years. I recall when Brisbane were so strong, and they had some fantastic games against my Swannies. That was a good few years ago now though. Speaking of Swannies ... never fear ... they will be back next year. So many good young players made their debut this year thanks to a lot of senior player injuries. Its a rebuilding year for them, much the same as Lions have had the past couple of years. And look what they've done!

Hmmmm ... the tennis ... I see young Popyrin is playing right now, but has dropped the first set against the 24th seed. He's had a really good tournament, so I'm hoping he can come back. Kyrgios plays a little later this morning. If anyone is really interested in the talented, but dreadfully wayward, young man. He does a lot of good you know? He's not all bad. And has set up a charity for underprivilaged kids. Gosh I wish he could just grow up a bit. Sigh. I see that Ash Barty plays tomorrow morning, scheduled for a 1am start. And Alex De Minaur is set to play 2.30am same day. A big morning of tennis if anybody is able to watch it at that time of the day.

Hey @MDT ... I see that your soccer team had a win overnight. Yay!

Hello @Gazza75 I hope your stay on the farm this weekend is going well. Not sure if you have tele out there, or if you are able to keep up with all the sport from there? Although I believe you have wifi, so thats a big help.

Hi to anyone else listening in here on the sports channel.

@Judi9877 I am lions supporter as well. Been a magical season for us and very unexpected. I thought we could push for the 8 but never expected the continued consistency. Not expecting us to go far in the finals but great that we have got there ...possibly a year earlier than expected. I do think we can beat Richmond at home but we will need to be at our best from the the beginning of the match - they are not a team you can give a start to like last week - we did prove after quarter time we can match them however.
