All Things Sport...

All Things Sport...

There are many threads dedicated to sharing experiences - good times and not so good - so I thought I would start a thread for those on here who love their sport. For me - and I suspect for some others - sport is a good distraction as it often blocks out the more negative emotions and helps to avoid triggers that many other things in 'life' so often seem to do.

This thread can also be a place where like-minded (and not so like-minded people @utopia @Former-Member @Zoe7 lol) can 'discuss/debate' their respective competitions in their preferred sport(s).

For those that are definitely NOT into sport @Phoenix_Rising for example - avoid this thread at all costs - whoops just tagged you in..........hahaha!!!!!

Re: All Things Sport...

Well done to Swansea @MDT 🎉

Little to be said about the Aussie cricket team overnight. I watched the match until the Lunch break, and by then it was looking very much like the Pommies would win. So it was no surprise when I sneaked a look at my phone around 3am and saw that they had beaten us in the 3rd ashes test. So its now all square, with a win each. Still 2 tests to go and starting over again. Damned shame after we won the first test. Mind you it kind of rankles a bit that the Poms win was thanks in a large part to their West Indian import (Archer) who took out our best batsmen in a fiery spell of fast bowling in the last test so he couldnt play in this one. And then thanks to their Kiwi import (Ben Stokes) who won it for them this morning with a very fine batting display. Still completely baffled by the Aussie selectors who continue to ignore Mitchell Starc. His left arm yorkers would have been very valuable in digging out a couple of batsmen this morning, including Stokes. Anyway ... feeling very disappointed this morning. I think the Aussies went into yesterdays play thinking they had it won, without needing to do much. A bad attitude. Mind you ... some very poor umpire officiating didnt help the cause either. The Aussies need to turn that around very quickly.

@Zoe7 @Gazza75 @Bear25

The US Open tennis starts today too. It will be interesting to see how Ash Barty and Sam Stoser go in their first round matches. They play tonight, or early tomorrow morning anyway ... both around 2am I think. And Gavrilova a little later. In the mens draw, we have Alex De Minaur playing, also around 2am.

Sherry 😊

Hi @Former-Member , I watched till about the same time. Woke up and heard the final 20 runs on the radio. We had every chance to win it. I think they should look at a new captain myself. Paine has done nothing so far and if it was any other player they would have punted him. He wasted to may DRS referals, the last one he used was a total waste and cost them the game.

The openers have all been terrible, I'd probably put Usman in with someone else, get rid of Warner. Might give him a wake up call and he'd come back better, could be his best is behind him. I'd probably stick with Harris for 1 more shot. Someone is going to have to go for Smith to come back in, they have to stick with Labershane, I thought he bowled pretty well, he could be a decent all rounder if he worked on his bowling a bit more.

I agree about Starc in the team we would have won the game last night, he would have cleaned up the tail like he usually does. I feel very disapointed we let them off the hook. Should have won the series, and without Smith it would have been a fine effort. I think the crowd and pressure rattled and got to them.

Thanks for the update on all the tennis action, your really across it all. Have my fingers crossed all of our players get through the first round. Don't care about some of the men we have, rather thay got disowned and made to play for someone else 🙂

Have a great day @Former-Member and everyone else passing through

@Former-Member @Gazza75 @MDT Make to the news of the cricket loss and while I was disappointed I can't say I am surprised. The Aussies have not had any consistency and it seems Stokes played extremely well. Good on them - Australia just weren't good enough.

Will be interested to see how our Aussies go at the US Open too @Former-Member It is a surface thet Stosur has had previous success on so hoping she can follow that up this year. Not Barty's best surface but she could do anything in the form she has been in this past year.

Sorry to see that your Eels got beaten tonight @Zoe7 . I had forgotten they were playing tonight, and was watching a movie. Then remembered it was friday, and footy was on. Looked up results on my phone, only to be disappointed to see they lost. Golden point too, and to make the loss even harder to bear ... it was against Brisbane Broncos! The Eels wont make top 4 now, after their losses over past two weeks.

Tough with a week off for all the AFL. Though I did watch the final 10 mins of the Ted Whitton match. A bit of fun.

Good to see a few Aussie tennis players doing well in early rounds.

Re: All Things Sport...

Yes it was disappointing @Former-Member - we should have converted in the earlier try and then golden point would not have been needed ...pretty much sums up our year though - inconsistecy and lost chances - but it is what it is hey!

Great to see our Aussies doing well at the US Open - hopefully they can keep going.

It is strange not having the footy this weekend but actually glad so I can get things done. Big weekend next week though ...will be watching every game lol

I am heading off now Hon but sending you some more love and hugs tonight - so lovely for you to check in here - we do love our sport

Sport is my escape too @Former-Member I don't have Liverpool tv anymore to fall back on as Foxtel doesn't have the rights to it anymore - very disappointing. Can't see any of the games without subscribing to one of the major phone providers now - really missing my soccer
