All Things Sport...

All Things Sport...

There are many threads dedicated to sharing experiences - good times and not so good - so I thought I would start a thread for those on here who love their sport. For me - and I suspect for some others - sport is a good distraction as it often blocks out the more negative emotions and helps to avoid triggers that many other things in 'life' so often seem to do.

This thread can also be a place where like-minded (and not so like-minded people @utopia @Former-Member @Zoe7 lol) can 'discuss/debate' their respective competitions in their preferred sport(s).

For those that are definitely NOT into sport @Phoenix_Rising for example - avoid this thread at all costs - whoops just tagged you in..........hahaha!!!!!

Totally agree @Scarecrowe There is preparedness then there is panic ...and the panic is being fuelled by massive media coverage, mistruths and assumptions. This happened in the 80s with HIV/Aids 'epidemic' and the reality was far from the truth being portrayed. This virus has spread throughout some countries but with the right precautions (as with any virus) it can be avoided - and if not it is not a death sentence in itself - there are so many outside factors that feed into that - age, pre-existing conditions, etc, but that is also the case with any virus - there are always risks.

And what about last years flu epidemic @Zoe7 and thousands lost their lives due to that. And there was none of this panic. I don't get it really.

Every winter there are concerns about the flu spreading, and that has been the case for years and years.

Just be vigilant like every other year. That is all you can do. I am not worried about it for myself, but I am worried if they get to the point that they close businesses for a spell. I am casual, I won't get paid if something drastic happens at work. That is the thing worrying me, not catching the thing but it stopping me from working. I cannot work from home like they are saying people might have to do in the near future. I work in a shop, can't sell things from my home lol.

Oh well, just have to wait and see.....it is out of my hands.

I am testament that getting through the flu can happen @Scarecrowe I had 2 strains of Influenza several years ago - it was actually what started my downward slide. I ended up in hospital extremely unwell and was bedridden for 3 weeks with ongoing viral fatigue for over a year afterwards. I lost all muscle tone and any semblance of fitness. It wasn't the flu that nearly got me but the depression that hit afterwards. I also had had the flu shot so sometimes things just happen.

Re: All Things Sport...

Holy cow @Zoe7 that sounds so awful and scary. I am so sorry you had such a battle. And the fact you got the flu shot. How unlucky can you be?

I don't bother with the flu shot. So many different strains of the flu and the shot only protects you against some of them. I don't think it is worth it. But I am lucky, touch wood as I touch my desk, I have a really strong immune system. The last flu I had was 5 years ago. Three weeks ago I got a head cold, nothing drastic more energy draining than anything, and that is the first head cold I have had in a few years as well.

So hopefully it will be enough to fight off anything virus going around. Plus being in Tassie I am hoping it might shield us from it more than other places.

But as you said some things just happen. I could get hit by a car on the way to work tomorrow....................mind you I was nearly killed by a stupid non attentive driver some years ago...........you just never know what is around the corner....some good and some bad. We cannot wrap ourselves in cotton wool and hope for the best. Live your life and hope for the best.

Re: All Things Sport...

We would certainly be shielded more from it if selfish people stayed home instead of going to nightclubs when they know they are sick @Scarecrowe I can completely understand this guy diagnosed in Tassie going to work because he too is a casual but to then go out to a nightclub is so very selfish.

I somehow drove to the doctor and she immediately called for an ambulance to take me to hospital. I couldn't stand or sit once I got there - just collapsed in the waiting room. It wasn't really scary because I was so unwell I couldn't think. They called my sister to meet us at the hospital and she had to make all the decisions for me because I couldn't speak for myself

I certainly hope you don't get hit by anything on the way to work tomorrow - this little flutterby would miss Auntie Scarecrow sooooooo much. Maybe wrap yourself in bubbly wrap tomorrow morning just in case 😁👍✔

Re: All Things Sport...

Yeah inconsiderate people are a major problem in these situations. Very selfish of this person to do what they did. Makes me angry

Wow you were certainly hit hard by that flu. Your sister must have been rather freaked out, I know I would have been. Wow, I have never know anyone to be hit that hard by the flu....I know it happens but that is just unbelievable. I know when I was a kid my father got pluresy and he was quarantined away from us for sometime. That was scary enough.

Luckily he pulled through. He got the flu and was working three jobs to makes ends meet and just kept working and so the flu got worse didn't it. Sometimes you just have to admit you are sick, no matter what.

Well I do have heaps of bubble wrap upstairs so I could wrap myself in it before I leave in the morning. Lol. Wouldn't I get some strange looks as I walked in covered in bubble wrap....I would just tell them a friend of mine did not want me to get hit by a car this morning so she suggested I do this and I did....... Funny.

Well this little black duck is off to bed. I ended up working all day today and I am rather knackered. Yep my new age is getting to me all ready lol.

Give my love and big hugs to Toby and Cat. And big loves and hugs to you my friend.

Take care and keep smiling........and no rushing out to by toilet paper........

Shouldn't laugh as it is serious but it is funny as well.................

Until next time

hahaha @Scarecrowe That friend must be hilarious lol You gave me a good giggle though - now expecting the news tomorrow to show a strangely dressed Scarecrow covered in bubbly wrap walking the streets of Lonnie LOL

Goodnight sweets - hope you sleep well. Love and hugs accepted here by Tobes, Cat and myself ...and a lot back to you too

Yeah, I just saw Gil McLachlans press conf. @Zoe7 😧 Little choice with States closing borders, and some States about to shut down all non-essential businesses.

I feel sick with worry about a lot of stuff right now. Right now, I cannot see an end to it.
