Oh darn the holiday tourism boom for your town @heartathome ☹️. My area is guilty of mass exodus during holidays 😅 so I get the quieter roads and services lol. However the shopping centres are still noisier though because of children/families who do stay local often the children go to the shopping centres.
I remember when I studied tourism looking at the impact of tourism on smaller communities. Mostly in the boom of tourism to for example pacific islands or Indonesian smaller islands, etc.
But it is a real thing for a lot of our coastal towns and cities too!
I remember once going to the Gold Coast (or just south of) to visit a family member, and I had forgotten my medication. So I needed to go to a GP locally there to ask for a script to get me through the week away. And my gosh trying to find a GP clinic that allowed non-locals?? Was sooo hard!! Finally I found somewhere that would see me because I was an Aus citizen visiting family for a week and not a tourist. I have never experienced that anywhere else - although admittedly I dont usually have to find a GP when travelling lol.
I do recall accidently doing my Work Experience during high school in Byron Bay (I knew some people there, so what a great mix of holiday and WE away from home), and it happened to coincide with Schoolies week for NSW lol. 🤭🤣 surprisingly not as noisy as I expected, but I guess I didnt go out at night time.
