Up for a chat?

Up for a chat?

I know its getting late on the east coast, but seeing if anyone is up for a chat?

Didn't really want to gate-crash people's existing chat threads.

Nothing specific. Just feeling lonely after feeling a few blows today. Just one of those days to roll with the punches until you can progress the issue at hand.

Its ok if no one is up for a chat. Thats the nature of a forum. But I wont know if I dont ask.

Re: Up for a chat?

So even with your managers support, the powers that be are not making a decision about your appeal @AlwaysMyself, is that it?

Does sound inequitable to me, so you are permanent part-time? That should not make a difference, it would be different if you were casual because you don't get paid sick leave etc, but then yu should be paid more per hour to make up for missing out on leave. Seems like an "interesting" situation.

What are these gnomes you are painting?

Ahh, the photo game was your price @Till23 ?? I enjoyed it! 😁 I look forward to it again if you are doing another one. 😊😊

I haven't read much about trauma therapy. Know a little from psychs I worked for, or from general knowledge. Ive read 1 self-help book for CSA when I was a late teen, it was good I felt for understanding some of my own world-views I held back then. I also read the book Waking the Tiger which introduced me to the freeze response and the concept of storing emotional energy in muscle and releasing it through movement. It made sense to me.

@AlwaysMyself It is good you have your art practice. Sounds soothing. nothing like the silly link I shared. lol hope it wasn’t too annoying.

I didn’t mean to jump to conclusions about the issue or management. I have witnessed the casualisation of the work force. Definitely sounds unfair.

I do hope you get a decent nights rest and your appointment tomorrow goes well.

Re: Up for a chat?

Pretty much @Till23 . I was paid in varying ways by payroll at different times, which made me look at the Agreements as to what I was meant to be paid. Which led me to see that it was a problematic clause because whilst understanding how it would equitably apply in some situations (no doubt their intended situations), it was not designed for my situation and if taken to apply to a non-shift worker then is quite unfair and indirect discrimination. I am perm pt, my coworkers are all perm ft. For example and ease of math, if we had a base wage of $10/hr, then for an overnight work of 7 hours they would get paid $125, and i would get paid $87.50. (We get paid a lot more than $10hr lol, but for ease of math I did that rate to demonstrate).

Re: Up for a chat?

I was going to do it again @AlwaysMyself because people seemed to engage with it a bit. I haven't had much time lately as I have been busy with sport and volunteering. I did some lived experience stuff today and I feel tired from that. I need to go through some photos, which is why I was wodering about the deadline. It's been a bit hard as I've been struggling myself.

Peter Levine, who wrote Waking the Tiger has collaborated with Bessel van der Kolk and they each their presentations in the same conferences or seminars. So the Body Keeps the Score is about how the body stores trauma - I found it to be great, It can be a bit full on in places, but you can skip over the examples. It has sold something like 6 million copies and has been on the New York Times bestseller list for years

Oh, and the gnomes - kmart! @Till23

I like painting 3d ceramic things lol.

I plan to give these to someone as a gift for their garden. They're just small gnomes. I enjoy the painting but never know what to do with the object after lol.

@Appleblossom no need to apologise 😊. Often managers *are* the problem! Lol. And earlier in the year I had big issue with the manager above my manager -- but not related to pay. Related to unprofessional conduct and also not actually doing effective management.

Re: Up for a chat?

Yes I understnd your example @AlwaysMyself and of course not to mention your own remuneration. That sounds very unfair in your particular situation, I am glad you are chasing it up, but I have some understanding of how stressful it can be, having gone through similar situation in my last few years of work.

Are these gnomes like garden gnomes?

I am going to have to go to bed as I am getting too cold and am pretty exhausted.

I hope you manage to get a good sleep @AlwaysMyself.

I will look out for you next time I am on, I don't like to promise any time because I don't want to let people down

Re: Up for a chat?

@Till23 I might see if the library has an eBook version i can check out and download. 🙂 would be interesting to read, and its been over a decade since I read WtT and have grown a lot since and understand myself better too. Would be interesting to see if I still relate to some trauma responses. I dont have a diagnosis of PTSD because I dont experience a lot of the traumatic memories, but I do think a lot of my muted emotions may have a root in the childhood trauma.

Yep, garden gnomes. If I think of it, I can send a photo tomorrow of what I have painted so far. Im doing 3 small ones.
