Up for a chat?

Up for a chat?

I know its getting late on the east coast, but seeing if anyone is up for a chat?

Didn't really want to gate-crash people's existing chat threads.

Nothing specific. Just feeling lonely after feeling a few blows today. Just one of those days to roll with the punches until you can progress the issue at hand.

Its ok if no one is up for a chat. Thats the nature of a forum. But I wont know if I dont ask.

Wow! I'm interested in what some of the changes you've seen, that stand out, in that time, @Shaz51 I just asked ChatGPT when SANE started and got some great information. I can't believe it started back in 1986! How come I'm only just hearing about it now?! That's nearly 40 years ago! It irritates me that no one mentioned it to me before. If I didn't get to go to the Mental Health Conference, I would never have found out about SANE. Well, people are going to hear about it now! 🙃

Oh yes @heartathome I have been on a few of the other spaces. I started on the PTSD thread and then expanded as I saw explored more of forums.

@Till23 Wow. You've travelled a lot and been near some big cities. I've heard about London. Did you like England? I am originally from outback NSW and loved it. We had lots of stray animals around when I was a kid. We were very poor, and I remember going on the Far West Scheme, in the 60's, to Sydney and saw many things for the first time, like the beach. It was wild! We all had brown one-piece swimsuits with large numbers pinned on the costume for identification! We slept on straw mats in a school in Manly. All us kids had only dreamed of seeing the ocean before that. It was the best holiday. Oh @Till23 I'm sorry you have cancer! Living an hour away from any hospital, I'm glad your near treatment and support! I hope you're getting the peace and quiet you deserve! 🙃

I meant other forums on SANE. There seems to be a few different places you can go to on to comment. I think I started off somewhere else and was transported here! 🙃

Haha @heartathome navigating the forums can definitely take some getting used to. There's 'Spaces' which separates everything by broad topic categories like Social Spaces, Carers Space, etc; there's Events which is mainly announcements for other stuff you can get involved with/important updates and stuff, and there's Discussions, which is a bigger list of all the Discussions which you can sort (default is by most recent activity). When you enter a space, it will be the same thing but only a list of Discussions from that Space.

Discussions, aka threads then have replies, aka posts. Some lingo for ya hehe.

Oh also! One of our lovely Community Guides @Oaktree created this How-To thread that could also be a helpful read 😉

As always ty for the tag @Shaz51 💜 You're such a superstar!

Re: Up for a chat?

Oh wow @heartathome sounds like I lived around where you were originally from.

Are you indigenous?

That Far West Program still runs

It used to take me about 45mins to get to my daily radiotherapy treatments, but could have been much worse. Lots of people have to travel much further. Then I got cancer again the next year and same thing. I worked pretty much through my cancer treatments. Then when I was having my last radiotherapy course my father got too ill from his cancer and came to live with me and I looked after him until he passed away in 2024.

I'm pretty much finished with the cancer now. I'm mainly affected by the inflammatory/immune disease I was diagnosed with at the time of my second cancer diagnosis. But I try to do exercise to keep myself as healthy as possible. The disease I have can't be cured, only treated, and will get worse eventually, but trying to keep that time as far away as possible with exercise.

I have an indigenous and Scottish background so I visited Scotland especially remote Scotland as much as possible, while I was there. London is exciting at first because you visit all the places on the Monopoly board and there are a lot of great places to visit. But it's very crowded and has air and light pollution so you get over after a while. It's expensive and I was very poor when I lived there.

I'm thankful that I was able to live there though, because I also visited places in Europe and Scandanavia and the former USSR, before it broke up.

So I have been pretty lucky in my life in certain areas, although I've had hard times, and I have had to work hard.

Re: Up for a chat?

@heartathome when you posted about the mountain and it having curves for riding i smiled.

ithe mountain has let me leave twice when i should not of.

once riding and once walking.

let me share what is actuallt less than a 3 minute decent if im dialled into Seq and roads are dry no

this is mischief not close to day it had me

Once upon a time there was a mountain and a bike that always came alone,,,,,,,,,,

A stretch down this side of mountain is one .way i know where to enter bends to maximise exiys acceleration pushind bike wide standing it up inches from getting it wrong and hitting rail,

engine screaming towards next fist full of brake, banging down gear ror gears the bikes constantly changing can feel the tyres flexing under weight of brakes feel the front discs through fingers as back skates

under throttle feet he tyre fighting to hold as bike lightens under throttle to next brake load

its a private ride.skill and knowledge of road means nothing.

riding that line , every second the bikes traveeling outside distance needed to stop with a steel rail on one side of road mountain on other.

gravel off a box trailer, a bottle thrown from a car ,oil or diesel , animals the smallest change im over rail into trees or side of mountain before i can even adjust

mountains better option no one knows your off the side if bike comes with.

theres a calm in calculating iso much so quick with accuracy

in that moment nothing exists except what i see smell hear and feel .going past.

reality gets bent and a sense im not dying tonight makes fear of the unknown disapear.

im already calculating my position beyond whats in sight

mountain allows chaos to rip through nights silence

every bit of that ride is about not being scared when i should be

balances being scared when i shouldnt be. each day

i listen to Seq as i realise the quiet and smile. nights behaving like it took back its silence.

I know silence was handed back.

Re: Up for a chat?

@REDLINEZ750 i would definitely be scared on a ride like that 🤣🤣🤣 as you say - something unexpected on the road, and it all goes pear-shaped fast.

I did read earlier about your family turning up unexpectedly. I too dislike unannounced visitors. My father didnt seem to have a problem with it, and nor did one of his friends, but I think im more like my mum where it was considered polite to not self-invite, or at the very least ask if you can drop over. I think it is reasonable that you felt upset/annoyed/etc by it.
