Gday @REDLINEZ750 thanks once more for your excellent, thorough and detailed message. I really appreciate getting a little lesson from someone who's done all this before! Cheers mate for taking the trouble to write things out.
If it's any consolation I have a handful of mates who have been thru a lot of 'stuff' in life and now they are in their 50s, they are struggling with a lot of various mental health situations - mostly depression, anxiety, neureodivergence, but some have had shocking relationship situations and faced fairly harsh consequences for those, too. I know that they look in the mirror and see LOSER in the mirror and I know it does their heads in. But, to me, they are my mates and I still value their humour, their history, their stories, music they made, or things they have made in the past/ongoing.
So I dont know if theres an answer or what you do in life but I urge you to try to find a place in the world that wants to know you. Whether its volunteering or studying at Uni/TAFE or doing street art playing lawn bowls or fixing bikes or picking up rubbish in your area (my hobby!), the world can be a better place outside than what the old noggin tells you it is. Slow steps of dropping the shame and making friends with the world again, coming to peace with a "new identity" even when the new identity isn't necessarily one that you like.
In no way to preach but my own life has been full of highs and lows, and I look back sometimes and think....W T F!! But theres an old passage in the bible about the Footsteps. I am not much a bible basher but I love that passage because, it tells us about the meaning of just plodding forward in the good times and the hard times.
51 is not very old I reckon don't give up on yourself. And if PEOPLE do your head in, THE PLANET always wants to know you. In my darkest and saddest days I always just thought if I look after the earth around me, I am creating oxygen not just stealing it. So I got right into gardening once upon a life, and when I had absolutely no garden space I started getting round doing gardening for cheap and also just tending the local public bushes, and feeding native birds, pulling out weeds.
So gardening might NOT be your thing but I say that because my head used to tell me all sorts of horrible things, useless unwanted c*** etc but in those days I knew I had a use of making life better for birds and plants, and increasing oxygen in the planet which offsets a few oxygen thieves who have been involved in and out of my life, too.
Thanks once more for your wise words of wisdom about being exploited, jealousy etc, as I have 100% had that happen and I used to think it was cause I was a bad person who deserved only bad things..(TY MUM!) But then one day I woke up a bit and realised what was going on.
That was when I started to invest in being a more skilled worker and eventually got my current job. This week the bosses keep telling me to take it easy that there's no hurry, while they keep asking me to do more complex tasks, too. I am amazed and I am trying to stay humble as I never want to think I will race off for a better deal if I get too comfortable there. Nope it's taken me years to find these bosses and it's not all about money, it's more about "not being fkd over" and past that...."having a fair go at work"....let alone my dream which I put out to the universe, I want to use most of my skills working for good people who respect me, and I like them" and that came true.
I dont know if you actually like people but recently I visited my grandma in the nursing home and ended up having two extra oldies wheeling over to me to get attention, I gave them attention because it was the right thing to do. At first I was a bit egotistical and annoyed, I wanted to rest OR talk to my grandma. But I gave them a good run of conversation etc. And at the end of the night they looked happy, and the cranky oldsters just sat with their eyes glued to the TV wishing the conversation club would be quiet. I went home feeling young again, like counting the people I talked to at the party or nightclub when I was young.
So I would say if bored, head off to the nursing home and make some people's dream come true cause they sit in there all day long, and it always humbles me how they have done more in their lives than myself, even if they can't walk or talk properly or whatever now. How lucky I am to be of interest to them, how lucky they are to wheel themselves forward and get a free friend for the evening. Fortune favours the bold!
May we shine on in our fortunes, even if there are misfortunes behind, underneath or untop of that. If we can stay peaceful, contented, adjusted to the pains and blows - what more can we seek as age comes? Thats what I think when I look at myself "now" where there used to be a beautiful young woman with a pretty face and a sad and broken heart - that wasn't my true destiny, my true destiny was to become an old wise person who impresses people with decency and kindness, not someone with all the comforts of being wealthy or having married or had kids or high flyer career, all the things I watched other people take like stormwater where I had to struggle to get a single drop of dew.
The way I see it, to play the hand we are dealt to the best of our ability, to the very end is a GOOD life....and jackassing about with superficial stuff is for the young - to shuffle around fairly anonymously and clean the trucks and I still do my gardening, that is my life.
And it's not all about the job too, before I had the job I was always scurrying around making things, helping out mates, being engaged with a charity so I could go there and know people in a similar situation, scabbing for work, getting work, losing work, picking up cans, ripping up weeds, putting stuff back in order at the local shops...(!!!) ....I hope you don't feel sad too often but if you ever feel useless just remember theres many ways to be useful if you put it out there.
Cheerio mate I'll ad prepsol to the shopping list and, when I'm scrubbing an old machine we are fixing up I'll be thanking the internet for not just bringing youtube videos but, myself for trying to engage on a forum so I didn't have to ring the counsellors as often - it worked! - and, thinking of my old anonymous mate Redline who has been an absolute champion friend to me in this time when all my other friends are on the skids or, working too hard and being too successful to care much about my life of endless dramas.
