Loneliness

Loneliness

Loneliness is the biggest mental health issue worldwide and travelling through the forums I've come across many people looking for connection. Imagine if we could just talk to each other! It seems I need to learn to tag people, so they know that I've responded. I'm still learning to get my way around here. I do understand why people would leave, thinking, like me, that they could just go into a chat room. I guess it all needs to be monitored. Anyway, that's my whinge for today! My encouragement for today goes like this: There is no such thing as normal. The only normal I know is a setting on the washing machine! Be kind to yourself! Don't take it personally if I don't get back to you. I still can't work it all out! You'll just have to imagine my smiling emoji.

Re: Loneliness

Hello everyone 🙂

@heartathome @Rhymster @Rhymster @Oaktree @DownMoreThanUp @Cuddlebear

and anyone else I may have forgotten.

An interesting topic.

I have been offline for a bit as I have been sick and I dont know about everyone else but when you are generally suffering from mental health challenges and then get sick, building your way back up to your 'normal' is quite difficult. I am flat, cant think and feel quite down ...... but ok too.

Sorry to hear about your situation @heartathome and yes loneliness is such a big thing in our society today. I was only thinking today that I really am missing some connection with a real person that gets me!

Interesting how many people here are in their 50s, I am too 🙂

I have recently started studying advocacy in the community and I have never been that interested in the political arena and stay away from what is happening in the world. It's too depressing and kinda scary. I am too sensitive. But I have had to involve myself recently due to my studies and I am starting to get annoyed more easily and frustrated in life generally and with others. I will have to work on this.

I think as you get to a certain age your values change and you dont want the same experiences anymore and want to live differently than you have been (I know that has happened to me) so it can isolate you more from others. I live in an area where there are so many people around me, yet I know no one!

I hope you are all enjoying your evening. It is raining here which is nice 🙂

Re: Loneliness

@Kashmina hi Kashmina, nice to meet you. I am new to here but have tried contributing on other forums over the years but have also been offline for a while. In the past I have had both positive and negative experiences on forums like this. Just reading through some posts today I already feel a better sense of belonging. It really helps with loneliness knowing that we aren't the only ones who feel the way we feel so we are never truly alone in that sense.

Re: Loneliness

Hi @Oaktree It's lovely to meet you, sister! I'm amazed to come across another Christian! That was the last thing I was thinking of, when coming on here! Don't think I'd ever judge you for not going to church! I totally understand! God's church is His people, not a building. I'm very slow at typing so I won't go on for too long. Thanks for your help with the threading! I love singing too. I love the 70's music, Motown and Fleetwood Mac. I'm 64. My son says I'm old! I say older! My brain still thinks it's a teenager! 😀

Nice to meet you too @Whaledone321
I have never been on forums such as this and to be honest I have never been into much that is online but I had been feeling so alone with my feelings and the challenges I am still having I reached out here. Yes the people on here do seem to be very connected with each other which is nice. I actually never felt trying to communicate to others online would feel like I am connecting to people but it does. You just have to find the right place.

Re: Loneliness

Hello @Kashmina and @DownMoreThanUp,

So glad to see you both about, how are you feeling?

And a big, warm forums welcome to you @Whaledone321. 😍

Re: Loneliness

Thanks for asking @AuntGlow.

I am quite flat and struggling to feel much atm but I am just trying to go with it as there is not much I can do about it right now. I have been trying to be creative in my world but I have not been able to do anything. After class tomorrow I will have to try my hardest to connect to something that stirs this.

How are you?

Re: Loneliness

Hi @Kashmina I'm really glad you felt a sense of belonging here, at that time! This is only my second day on SANE so I'm unaware about the other forums. I'm glad there's moderators on here. I imagine some messages could get nasty. Loneliness definitely complicates mental health!

Re: Loneliness

@Kashmina I totally agree, finding the right place and the right people is challenging. I have had negative experiences where I have felt like I've made strong connections only to be used and let down in the past. From what I am reading this seems to be a very welcoming and safe place for people to share their stories and seek advice as well as to help others. Belonging is so important and it may not have occurred to you you would get a sense of community online, it may not be face to face but the same connection is there.

Re: Loneliness

I get that feeling and it can be so, so tough to know how to tend to your body and mind when you feel this way, hey? @Kashmina

Hmm... what is something you would change about your days, if you could? I know in my experience, sometimes it can be hard to connect with the things that will bring me joy when other things are creating a sense of overwhelm.

I have felt so similar to this lately... maybe we can check-in with each other to see what creative things we have done this week?

What would you like to do that's creative?

Oh, and what are you studying? 🥰

Re: Loneliness

Hey @Whaledone321 Thanks for showing up! I love that we can be vulnerable because we are anonymous. I've never done this tech stuff before and am very slow at typing. My medication has kicked in and I need to go horizontal. It's good to meet you and I'm sure we'll talk again! 😊
