Loneliness

Loneliness

Loneliness is the biggest mental health issue worldwide and travelling through the forums I've come across many people looking for connection. Imagine if we could just talk to each other! It seems I need to learn to tag people, so they know that I've responded. I'm still learning to get my way around here. I do understand why people would leave, thinking, like me, that they could just go into a chat room. I guess it all needs to be monitored. Anyway, that's my whinge for today! My encouragement for today goes like this: There is no such thing as normal. The only normal I know is a setting on the washing machine! Be kind to yourself! Don't take it personally if I don't get back to you. I still can't work it all out! You'll just have to imagine my smiling emoji.

Re: Loneliness

@heartathome Hello it’s really nice to meet you. How are you doing? Yes, loneliness is a huge problem in Australia and around the world. I feel lonely everyday and it’s hard to get through everyday and then sleep and start all over again the next day.

If you use the tag it will let people know you’ve posted 🙂 It would be nice to have a chat function but I’m guessing it’s too hard for it to be moderated.

@heartathome as I have been saying for years, I am a unique individual, you are a unique individual, everyone else is a unique individual so how can normal exist it is a lie

@Cuddlebear

I hope this works! Hi back at you @Cuddlebear It's nice to meet you! My first SANE friend. I'd put a laughing emoji here! Ha ha I'm doing okay. People tell me I'm very resilient. I just had a big sigh. That helps! I listen to old music instead of watching the news which also helps. Being a person of faith is my backbone. I'm a people person and the mental health hub in the area is closing it's doors next month and I'm dreading it! I'm in a rural area now, after flooding 3 years ago. I'm an hour away from my friends. Don't get me wrong. I'm grateful for everything I've got! Making new friends is hard, though!!

Re: Loneliness

@heartathome It sure did work! Yay!!!!!!

Awww thats great I’m your first SANE friend! I live in the outer suburbs of Melbourne. 🙂 In my 50’s and like you I prefer music to the news. I like all styles of music and I love singing though I’m a crap singer lol. Gosh the news is very depressing and I avoid it at the moment.

That’s really cool you are a person of faith. It’s something that really provides us with hope and love. Is there a particular belief that you participate in? I was raised in a mainly Christian family. I would say my family were more religious though. Personally I have no idea but I do like the way faith can really build a loving and mutually supportive community.

That really sucks that the local mental health service is closing down. Particularly for rural people as another service is likely to be far away. We really need these services everywhere where people can easily access them.

My friends live far from me too. I’m not rural but I’m closer to rural than the city. Mind you I don’t have a heap of friends and we mostly chat via technology.

I’m going to be doing SANE zoom tonight via the Recovery Program. Goes from 6:30-7:30 just in case you respond and I don’t see it till after the Zoom.

Re: Loneliness

@heartathome Hi Di good to meet you here, even better to hear you say you are a person of faith, pleased to meet you, so am i.

Being lonely in world where everybody is so called in touch technologically, shows us how that does not help many people like us, but often times amplifies our loneliness, for people stay out of reach, only chatting, not talking, or sharing life issues or problems, but rather avoiding them.

i hope you find may friends to assists you in your daily struggles and you may be of worth to others with your experiences and the stories of your successes being someone of faith.

i love writing poems about how difficult life issues can be overcome heeding faith in Jesus' truthful love, and let hope guide us on our Way. i share you one i wrote 15 years ago understanding that i was truly leaving my pit behind for good forever placing my faith in Jesus.

Forsaking The Pit.
As I climb over the rim, I can clearly see,
Involuntary I shudder the very sight in me,
Down without a bottom the pit far below,
Yes this fiery hole within my heart on show!

Hearing voices of darkness pressing hard on must.
Those 'speaking guilt, shame, unbelief, and distrust,
All together pushing, yes, pressing me so deep,
Resisting my climb to the top so incredibly steep.

See those guilty feelings still tugging my feet,
I can feel flames searing, my toes they meet!
Electrifying my soul, with no mercy on show.
Why ever did I take this hell-hole in tow?

Above me the Light, Jesus, my truth so very high!
How long before I will meet up with Him in the sky?
He knows I will come after His truth without a doubt,
As true nourishing goodness His love is all about.

My bloodied fingers scraped by stone hard rock,
For how many years did that inside me mock?
Those hard places dwelling within my very being,
Those fiery stones burning all that i'm seeing!

I will climb after the Light shinning above me,
For only God's truthful love truly leaves me be,
Therefore I will never stop seeking after The Light.
As know the Son of God is my very soul's delight!

Soon the 'resting place' of all my inner enemies,
bottomless pit on show in me shall forever be!
Tailor-made for those who without Love or Grace.
Those wicked who with their lies dug me this place.

Hi Di,

So lovely to meet you. I am a woman of faith and am a Christian. I have decided recently not to continue with organised religion though. I believe in God and Jesus Christ and I have a great relationship with them. I know that I am saved! I also don't watch the news as it is very depressing. I pray for an end to wars and all the terrible things that happen in the world. I am in my 50's and I enjoy music and singing but am also not great at the singing part (same as what someone else said haha). If you are having trouble working out the forums you might like to visit the How To thread I put together to help newbies. Just click on the blue writing to get there. I joined SANE to work on my recovery but also because I was extremely lonely. I have been here 4 years now. I hope that we can be friends?

Re: Loneliness

@heartathome Hi Di, I just signed up and your post was the first one I read. Loneliness sure is very common and I think just knowing that lots of people feel this way helps people to feel less alone. I struggle with loneliness everyday I just feel like I don't belong even though I have great friends and family. I'm not alone but I'm lonely, it took me a long time to understand this was a real thing. Emotional loneliness vs social loneliness. Anyway, when we feel alone it's Important to remind ourselves that yes we do feel lonely but we are not actually alone when it comes to feeling that way, it's very common and there is help available.
