Mixed feelings-might be getting another diagnosis (ED)

Mixed feelings-might be getting another diagnosis (ED)

I have multiple mental illnesses including Bipolar 2, cptsd, OCD, social anxiety. I’m also neurodivergent, ADHD and ASD. I already have tons of labels and a lot going on. I’m getting assessed for an ED on Monday during my psych appointment, I reckon I meet criteria so I am anticipating another diagnosis. I know it explains my how I’ve been feeling but it’s another label, I hate feeling so broken and feeling like I’m complicated. I know my disordered eating habits are adversely affecting my mental and physical health, I’ve just been in denial for so long and would also get defensive when people commented on my eating habits or asked about them.

@Jynx I only feel comfortable to be my authentic self in front of some people. I feel like I often connect better with other NDs. I feel like it’s something more people have become open about. We have a number of ND in our course. I think many NDs are attracted to therapeutic type work.

I’m honestly scared. Sometimes her emotional reactions can be scary. I get scared for her wellbeing. I know it’s not my role to support her wellbeing, but I feel guilty and selfish if I don’t consider it. I know sometimes you need support, I honestly hate the idea of going to emergency and would rather avoid. I guess the other option is calling the CAT team. I know I can always call my psychiatrist, but I’ve left those calls for when I really need it. I don’t know if I need it. I thought my meds were helping and now I seem to be getting worse

@creative_writer feeling guilty about not considering her wellbeing says a lot about you and your values - integrity, compassion, kindness. But it can be hard to sit with, and hard to shake, especially when it comes to family.

I think there's balance to be found between consideration and taking responsibility. If you avoid looking after yourself in order to protect her wellbeing, it might end up being detrimental for both of you eventually. In my experience, when I've found out someone has made sacrifices for me to protect me, even though I didn't ask or need them to, it can be really uncomfortable. Maybe it is different for your mum, but also most parents want to be able to protect their children, not the other way around.

I think the CAT team is always a good idea, even if it's just getting a bit of guidance around options or perhaps putting together a bit of a plan. You could even ask them for some strategies on talking to your mum about it all too.

With your psychiatrist, I guess the question might be around like... if you don't 'really need it' right now, what is the line you'd have to cross in order to feel like you do? Could you picture your psych's response if they knew that was 'the line'? Would they agree, or wish you'd reached out sooner?

If things are taking a turn for the worse, please don't hesitate to reach out to a crisis service again, or the CAT team hun - you don't deserve to go through this alone 💜

@Jynx the balance can be tricky. I know it’s been detrimental. She didn’t seek support for her mental health because she didn’t trust. It had significant impacts on her life and life of others. I think part of me is traumatised by her very heightened moments. It’s not easy when a parent shows suicidality even if they don’t act on it. I try my best not to heighten her.

I don’t know if I would get much out of CAT, but it probably won’t hurt reaching out.

My psychiatrist wasn’t happy that I hadn’t reached out before my December episode. I may have reached out too late but I also hate being the annoying client. Maybe other clients need more care, time and support. I don’t think I’m that bad.

I’m going to try to sleep soon. Not sure if I will post again tonight because it depends on how the meds kick in. I will wish you good night in case I don’t come back 💖

I think I am having a reaction to my meds, I think it is worsening my current symptoms. I can try to reach out to psychiatrist on Tuesday. I'm entirely sure what to do while I wait. The suicidal thoughts have grown more intense, but I am safe for now.

Hi @creative_writer

I would strongly encourage you to make that appointment early next week to speak to a psychiatrist about your symptoms exacerbating.

Thank you for confirming your current safety. I am sorry that you are experiencing these thoughts. Don't hesitate to call Lifeline - 13 11 14 or use their Crisis Chat if you feel unsafe at any point.

A gentle reminder that these distressing symptoms will pass. We're here for you💓

@Honeymoon I might be able to get a call from my pdoc on Tuesday. I could transfer to online uni class instead of in person for the day. They are understanding if someone isn’t well. I don’t know if I feel well enough to go in person.

I’m just trying to hang on until then. I do have an appointment with him the week after. I might need to get meds adjusted. Bipolar mixed episodes can be dangerous and are far worse than depression alone. It might explain my impulsive behaviour

Re: Mixed feelings-might be getting another diagnosis (ED)

It sounds like you are making a big effort to hold things together until you can speak to your pdoc - which again, I do encourage doing on Tuesday. It's great you also have an appointment lined up for the following week to review your medication.

It can certainly feel like a long wait till appointments when symptoms are intense and impulsivity is present too. Sometimes taking things hour by hour can be a helpful strategy, rather than always thinking days ahead. It also makes sense that you are thinking of switching to online uni next week - it's a thoughtful way to look after yourself and honour your capacity whilst you figure things out.

I want to remind you that you're doing a great job of balancing everything - hang in there, stay connected, and again I encourage you to utilise crisis Webchats if you feel unsafe and need to speak to someone at any point💓

@Honeymoon I know things can escalate out of control if not controlled earlier enough. I’m just taking moment by moment. I will be in touch with crisis service if I need it.

I’ll see how I go with uni, Tuesday I can do online. I’ll see how I feel by Thursday.

Maybe I’m feeling disappointed. I feel like I haven’t been able to find the stability I found years ago. I reckon I’ve gone years without suicidal or self harm urges in the past. I’ve started feeling hopeless. I could talk to my pdoc about that

Speaking with your pdoc about these thoughts is a really good idea. You can absolutely get back to that stable place and feel a lot better, and it's more than ok if it takes time and trial and error.

Thinking of you💗

@Honeymoon it’s hard not to blame myself. I don’t know what broke in me. I know nobody will blame me. I know trauma memories eventually broke free, I could keep it all within myself for so long. I don’t know if that is what broke me. I don’t know if I did something wrong for things to work out like this. I’ve grown up suppressing my emotions and I felt like I should’ve kept it up.
