Mixed feelings-might be getting another diagnosis (ED)

Mixed feelings-might be getting another diagnosis (ED)

I have multiple mental illnesses including Bipolar 2, cptsd, OCD, social anxiety. I’m also neurodivergent, ADHD and ASD. I already have tons of labels and a lot going on. I’m getting assessed for an ED on Monday during my psych appointment, I reckon I meet criteria so I am anticipating another diagnosis. I know it explains my how I’ve been feeling but it’s another label, I hate feeling so broken and feeling like I’m complicated. I know my disordered eating habits are adversely affecting my mental and physical health, I’ve just been in denial for so long and would also get defensive when people commented on my eating habits or asked about them.

@AlwaysMyself I’ve been looking at psych options and I’ve been in touch with a few psychs and gathered more information. I haven’t found someone I feel satisfied with. I did come across a psych this evening who I am willing to explore.

I do think I will need to take the first session slowly. I am also terrified of having to work through the SA, I’ve been avoiding it for so long. I know I can take my time, but I can’t run away for forever

I agree that it's not good for you ultimately to run away from addressing it @creative_writer , but I reckon it is very much appropriate to get to know the psych well before embarking on that particular adventure. There are plenty of other helpful topics too that you can "practice" with them on first (get to know them, sus them out, build trust, etc).

If you're a fan of quest-based games... I see it as like a "big boss" that you have to prepare before you can face perhaps?

You've got to meet the other characters in your adventuring party (eg the psych and other supports), and figure out what equipment you need & obtain it (coping skills, medication-levels if required, comfort items, shared trust, etc) -- and only then can you start on the road safely and prepared to slowly head towards the big boss - and along that road you will gain experience via meeting other challenges that build up your skills and practice your technique to prepare you to finally beat the big boss. 😎

@Always starting off small will help, but it’s probably still natural to have anxiety because I will eventually need to address the deeper stuff.

I feel like my therapist options have been limited because I’m searching for someone who is willing to work with EDs on the EDP and also has experience with trauma and EMDR. I have multiple diagnoses and find it really hard to trust and feel comfortable around people. I find it super hard to even form relationships in my personal life. I’ve seen multiple therapists before and not all of them addressed my needs. I’ve become more picky with age because I need specialised support. I’ve had mixed experiences in therapy. I’ve found bad experiences tend to stick because of my natural negativity bias.

The last few days have been super stressful. I know I’ve had changes with the new course. I also had some changes in sleep schedules. I wonder if changes in sleep schedule has triggered some of the agitation. Sleep is a mania trigger. I feel like I’m edging closer to depressed with manic features. I’m not sure if I’m quite at the mania stage yet, but it tend to build up over time. I haven’t always been historically good at identifying warning signs, but I am noticing it right now.

The other night I may have acted on the urges if I had not gone to bed. I’m getting the urges right now, but trying to resist. I don’t have palpitations tonight but my heart is racing and I feel oddly alert for the time of day.

Hello @creative_writer 🥰

How are you this week?

Were you able to get onto therapists re: EMDR? Also, how is your medication sitting with you?

What course have you started? (I think I missed something important here!)

It sounds really positive that you have been able to notice some warning signs. What do you think might be helpful for your body and mind right now (to reduce the experience of mania)?

You know how we talked about movement/shaking last week? I wonder if some movement could help you to regulate and slow things back down naturally? 💛

Re: Mixed feelings-might be getting another diagnosis (ED)

@AuntGlow I’m still researching into EMDR therapists. It can be challenging to find a therapist that is a good fit. I’m trying to do as much research I can because I do want to avoid bouncing around therapists.

I check in with my psychiatrist on Friday. I’ve noticed improvements since being on the new meds, but I am also monitoring myself for stability. ADs need to be carefully monitored in bipolar.

I started a MH based course, I didn’t feel like I was adequately equipped to work in MH. I thought gaining some skills and knowledge on the therapy process would be valuable.

Maybe I should try to sleep because that can help settle my brain. Hopefully it doesn’t take too long to fall asleep.

I’ve been able to get movement and shaking through exercise

I know I shouldn’t be getting urges but I am. I feel like I need to SH in order to resist SI. I’m safe right now. I did reach out to SCBS, but the urges are still present.

I’ve short listed a few more psychs, need to look into them to see if any of them are a good fit. I’ve also done studying this morning but didn’t get much done. I also got a workout in.

I hope you are doing okay @AlwaysMyself 💖

These urges aren’t leaving, I’m still trying to resist. I know there are safety issues if I act on the urges, I spoke to my supports about it. Even SH can still have its risks. I need to somehow release the SI tension.

I’m just doing what I can to resist meanwhile. Not sure how much longer I can go without acting on urges

Hey @creative_writer hearing how challenging it is to resist these urges right now. Do you ever have any luck with SH alternatives providing some relief?

Re: Mixed feelings-might be getting another diagnosis (ED)

@Ru-bee self harm alternatives can help, like the TIPP techniques. However, it can still be hard. Maybe sometimes you have to accept coping strategies may not take the urges away completely. Slip ups can still happen. I know ideally I wouldn’t want to repeat the major SH episode I had weeks back, it’s just been hard. I can talk to my psychiatrist when I have an appointment with him later in the week.

I’m just having dinner now and I’m hoping I’ll feel better afterwards.
