Mixed feelings-might be getting another diagnosis (ED)

Mixed feelings-might be getting another diagnosis (ED)

I have multiple mental illnesses including Bipolar 2, cptsd, OCD, social anxiety. I’m also neurodivergent, ADHD and ASD. I already have tons of labels and a lot going on. I’m getting assessed for an ED on Monday during my psych appointment, I reckon I meet criteria so I am anticipating another diagnosis. I know it explains my how I’ve been feeling but it’s another label, I hate feeling so broken and feeling like I’m complicated. I know my disordered eating habits are adversely affecting my mental and physical health, I’ve just been in denial for so long and would also get defensive when people commented on my eating habits or asked about them.

@AlwaysMyself a lot of people struggle with impulsivity. I also think it’s normal for impulsivity to fluctuate depending on current mood state. I do ideally want to become more stable because it’s a lot easier to manage everyday life stressors during those moments. Meltdowns are also more likely to occur when I’m not stable. I feel like a lot of people don’t really get why I react so strongly at times, my nervous system is on fire right now, it’s just hard not to react to the smallest things. I don’t think many people realise how much I’m dealing with at the moment. To them it is too much.

I think there is a lot of stigma around SH and SI. Some people judge even if you just have thoughts. I have also been judged for acting on impulses, and I totally get why people would get worried. It just doesn’t help to be shamed for it.

Maybe learning to forgive yourself is a skill. Self compassion is a skill

@creative_writer I've seen two therapists before - totally understand how it can get confusing! I tried to basically focus on separate issues with them, e.g. one was focused on my past, my family, childhood trauma stuff, and one I was focusing more on current issues, relationship stuff, etc.

There was some crossover when it came to talking about attachment stuff, but by and large it was pretty manageable. Just my experiences though, you know your needs best 😊

I think communication about expectations is incredibly valuable, both for you and for the therapist. Also if you can identify some of your early warning signs (and what they might look like to an external observer) that could help too - I know when I'm starting to get heightened I can't always identify it in the moment and so it can be difficult to press pause when needed. But if your therapist is able to see it/know when you might need that external voice to say 'hey I'm noticing x, do you want to take a moment and we can focus on some grounding' or something.

I totally think self-forgiveness can be worked on as a skill. Maybe starting with smaller stuff, like forgiving ourselves for not going to bed on time or for forgetting to brush our teeth. Is there one (1) small thing you can forgive yourself for today?

@AlwaysMyself 💜

@Jynx I’m not closing the option of CASA at this moment in time, options are open. I’m just exploring all the possible options. Im just giving myself time, rushing stresses me out.

Maybe I’m already super stressed. The idea of further studies has left me feeling overwhelmed on top of everything else I’ve been coping with. I think having nothing to do is not helping my situation, but the idea of having something to do is stressing me out. I don’t know, it’s so weird. I don’t think it would hurt to get more mental health based study in.

I did update my safety plan recently, it has my early warning signs. Might be worth emailing that across, I could email it across to my current psych too. I updated the plan after my last psych appointment, I see her again on Tuesday.

I need to forgive myself for not being able to handle my meltdowns today. I’ve been on edge.

I hope today has been kind towards you 💖

I love learning about things, but assessments, timeframes and sometimes even the *way* of learning can at times be so stressful and overwhelming too @creative_writer .

If that is the case for you, i wonder whether informal learning on topics of interest (eg via youtube?) could be of benefit? 🤔

@AlwaysMyself I feel like sometimes I overcomplicate things. Timeframes definitely stress me out. MH doesn’t help, too much brain fog. Intrusive thoughts were better today, still there, but better.

They do have a mix of things for the course, including videos. I’m just familiarising myself right now. I’m sure there is a lot of content out there. I’m thinking of trying to sleep a bit earlier and waking up earlier. I tend to function better in the morning.

Fitting a skeep schedule to take advantage of your natural body's rhythm of when it is most alert and least foggy sounds a great idea 😊🥰.

And so, given the time, I hope you are having a lovely sleep right now @creative_writer and have some fog-free time when you wake up 😊.

This is my last forum message too before i log off to sleep also 😋

Re: Mixed feelings-might be getting another diagnosis (ED)

@AlwaysMyself I had great difficulty falling asleep, I did still get up early. I knew I had to train my brain to get up early or it’s not going to work. Still managed 7 hours of sleep, a bit under but not too bad. I’m definitely not fog free. I think I do need to give my brain a bit of a rest this afternoon. I’m going to try to workout this afternoon. I notice lowered energy and mood around this time of day. I’m very exhausted. Hopefully the intrusive thoughts don’t come back full on. I was able to distract earlier today.

I hope you slept well last night 💖😊

Re: Mixed feelings-might be getting another diagnosis (ED)

Well done in getting up at the desired/earlier time @creative_writer 😊; first step to routine eh.

I think i slept ok (on my scale), but still feeling easily tired today. I did manage to microwave some lunch from frozen though! Other than that i have just been doing my painting with the tv on; but that became too tiring and so i've been laying in bed with music for the past couple of hours. Still feeling exhausted though. Im wondering if my body aches today are related, or even if the constant aching (which i try to mentally filter out) could be part of the reason i'm feeling tired out - the energy to ignore it? I dont know. I just know i am tired, and i have aches, and that also means i need to be very careful with my mood/thoughts tonight because there are my 2 biggest trigger risks.

Re: Mixed feelings-might be getting another diagnosis (ED)

@AlwaysMyself I hope you start feeling better soon. Feeling tired and aches is not a great experience. It’s understandable for it to be a trigger. Do you have pain relief?

I’ve sort of been occupied much of the day, now is the time to slow down before I burn myself out. Maybe I’ve already burnt myself out. It’s really hot here today, it’s not good for migraines

Re: Mixed feelings-might be getting another diagnosis (ED)

I can take pain medication, but i dislike to because it is a chronic condition @creative_writer . I'm back to doing my painting now to bide my time. Im doing touch-ups where the paint is thin or cracked. It feels tedious. But if i want it to look nice i need to.

I don't do well in the heat either, so i empathise with that. Today was our one-day break in the warm weather this week. Been raining lightly all day.

I hope your migraine eases away soon.
