AuDHD Life: Anyone else?

AuDHD Life: Anyone else?

Hi Forumites!

Today is World AuDHD Day!

Wait, what is AuDHD? Have you just spelt ADHD wrong? Actually, no.

AuDHD isn’t currently a formal diagnosis. It's a term that is starting to be used to describe the “neurotype” of people with both Autism AND ADHD. I’ve seen a bunch of people on the Forums who have both, just like myself!

Autism and ADHD have their own challenges, but the combination can be super difficult too. Some of the traits of Autism and ADHD can overlap. A LOT of the time they clash or oppose each other. I know this has really confused me and sent me spiraling a bit. Like, what do you mean I want predictability and sameness, and ALSO novelty and spontaneity?!

Check out the AuDHD Day website if you’re interested.

I’d love to use this thread as a way to share resources and memes, to connect and to share our experiences as AuDHDer’s!

Do you have Autism and ADHD? Do you identify with AuDHD? What have been some of your experiences?

Please tag anyone who you think might relate to this!

@0ddsidian @Thank you! 😊

This is a lot easier when tagged, if exploring the SANE Multiverse. It's a big place & I don't want to get lost.

Question - If this occurs, does rescue dog Roxy, (or another furry friend) come find me, with an oak barrel of warm beverage around her neck?!? (Please meme this if possible, that would be so cute! 😁)

Re: AuDHD Life: Anyone else?

My Motto is - Basic black is always in style.

Saves a lot of decision-making, which is difficult for me. Otherwise I choose both or multiple of said choice. Eg. I found the Most top which I totally adored, which colour?!?

Why, ALL the colours of course.

And so it was & came to be, the Shein package arrived with the entire rainbow 🌈 selection of the 1 top.

I've worn the 🟣 so far, which got much positive feedback, again restating the common theme of "should have been from the 60's".

Here is a Share to Care, just out of interest sake, cos that's just me & what I do.

Re: AuDHD Life: Anyone else?

I don't currently have a dog to send to search for you, @Meredyth49, however through the power of ✨technology✨ we will find you.

I also predominantly wear black; pretty much for the exact same reason as you. I don't have to think about it and it goes with everything!

"Share to Care" does feel very on-brand for you. I love that ADHD dressing hack!

@0ddsidian One resounding positive to being petless is that it's probably for the best when wearing black (or any other colour, texture, style now to mention it!.) (Animal hair aka pet glitter.)

This is true, @Meredyth49. And with how much I struggle to do laundry, it's probably for the best for now. Dog are so wholesome though ♥️

Re: AuDHD Life: Anyone else?

Sorry it’s taken me a while to get back to you @0ddsidian. Just been having a few issues on here and have lost my confidence to talk.

I’ve got sour warheads to help with disassociating and regulating myself. They aren’t to bad. Better than I remembered from childhood!

I have heard that we are wired for the negative, seems I’m stuck in that and can’t switch it over. I need a lot more work!

Im really struggling with motivation right now. My psychiatrist has increased my adhd meds so I’ll see how that goes plus there is room for me to increase even more. But I also have other health issues going on that don’t help, especially low iron.

O hope you needed up cleaning up your office but if you’re like me it would be just as messy again.

Heya @Captain24 😊

I'm usually lurking, so I'm a little aware of how you've been feeling and stuff. That confidence stuff is hard. Have you heard of Rejection Sensitive Dysphoria (RSD)? It's not a diagnosis, but it's an experience that a lot of AuDHDers have (myself included).

It's important to note that rejection can be perceived, not just "real". Even today I still feel a bit triggered by perceived rejection, and that definitely includes when people put a boundary in place with me, but I've gotten SO much better at it. Definitely not perfect, but I've slowly be triggered less and less.

Warheads really do bring you back into your body haha

It's not super easy to switch out of that negative mindset, but science tells us it's possible. Consistent small acts where you acknowledge positive things are good for that.

I'm glad you've been working with your psych re. your ADHD meds. It can take a while to figure out what works best for your body. Taking into account what's going on with your body is also good too. I know that my meds work best when I take them after eating something with protein in it. Also, certain times of the month they just barely work at all, coz hormones and stuff.

I HAVE NOT cleaned my office in any way shape or form haha I did do my washing though, which is absolutely a win. Housework is really hard to find the motivation for because IT'S NEVER DONE 🤣

Re: AuDHD Life: Anyone else?

So you’ve seen a lot @0ddsidian

I have heard of it but never really looked into it. But I think I do suffer with it really badly. The littlest thing makes me feel rejected. Hence not being wanted on here. If I’m honest I still feel rejected. I guess I have a long way to go. It’s good to know that it can improve.

I take mine at random times. Like in the morning which is fine but 11 and then again at 3. They aren’t doing much for me today as I’ve spent from 11 until now in bed. Other than feeding the dogs. I have so much to do but just too tired, unmotivated and no energy. But I’m guessing that time of the month is close by. Well maybe.. who knows. (Perimenopause!)

I have work tomorrow so hopefully I’ll be stimulated enough to be able to function and hopefully the higher med dose helps. Can only try and see what happens

Oh.. the housework. I sweep the floor and the littlest dog goes out and rolls in the dead grass and brings it all back in! I am pretty good with housework as my parents come around to pick the dogs up while I’m working so I make sure it’s clean and tidy for them to see. At least the living areas anyway.

Re: AuDHD Life: Anyone else?

I'm seen some stuff, @Captain24

Not to bring up the feelings aren't facts thing again but... 😉 I totally get that your brain is screaming "REJECTION" at you. That part of my brain can also be particularly loud.

Mine are working less optimally for me right now, but I know this is the pattern for my hormones. I'm glad you've got some doctors that you're starting to explore this with. Might be worth making sure your psych is aware of the potential perimenopause stuff and asking them for their advice when it comes to your ADHD meds.

I know you don't feel optimistic, but you did just say "Can only try and see what happens", which I could consider realistic optimism. Your instinct might be to tell me I'm way off and that you aren't, but you did just say that. Just wanted to flag that with you, in case you have trouble noticing those small moments / glimmers.

You honestly seem like you do better with housework than I do! We all have different strengths and challenges. Life is a spectrum ✌️
