Talking through trauma and PTSD

Therapy types

Therapy types

Seeking help, thoughts, info from life experiences etc

currently doing schema therapy for CPTSD and feeling have hit a wall.

been reading little bits about ACT therapy and wondering if could be worth talking with psychologist about next session in couple days time.

wondering what type of therapy might help me coming to terms with, and deal with, ongoing grief from loss of family members 40+ yrs ago.

Psychologist has mentioned EMDR various times. Not something I feel I can do

Ha, chocolate sounds good @tyme ! 😆😁😍

I went and walked around Aldi today for something to do (was already at the shops). Lots of cute dog-themed things and dog toys currently. Resisted buying them because i don't need anything and wanting to limit spending.

I've been continuing to paint my little plaster figure this weekend. Updated photo for you @Flutterbug9 . Got to paint some of the other side still though.

How have you been today @Flutterbug9 @PeppyPatti @tyme @AuntGlow @Jynx ?

Back to work tomorrow. 😒 dont feel nearly rested enough (but that the burnout). But only 2 weeks left (6 days). Countdown is on i guess, then i can rest.

omg it's ADORABLE @AlwaysMyself 😍 How long has it taken to paint? I do NOT do well with fine motor skills, it would look all smudgey if I tried 🤣

Slow day for me, definitely a bit scatter-brained. Might be hormonal, it can make my ADHD meds less effective 😵😅

But chugging along okay otherwise! 😉

Re: Therapy types

I am a very detailed person @Jynx , and i pretty much take as long as i want with these. The longer i take the more "perfect" the paint edges are between colours 😉. I think this one so far maybe... i started Thursday night... so maybe 6-8hrs so far? But so much of that is tiny touch-ups, or a few mins break between colours, etc.

I did a large squirtle whilst in Melbourne. It has a lot of imperfect colour edges and some parts where the paint colour is abit thin. But i only spent 4-5 hours on it.

My "heal ball" shape is a bit wonky and the chest yellow isnt very thick in colour so you can sometimes see some blue under it 😅. But it is still "good enough" to look nice.

Late high-school i would go for a whole day (10am to 4pm) to do a single piece lol 😅.

Amazing @AlwaysMyself 😍 I imagine you get into 'flow state' whilst doing it for that long!!

Do you ever paint like, D&D minis? Had a mate who got a 3D printer specifically for D&D and Warhammer minis lol

Re: Therapy types

@Jynx yes and no re: dnd/wh minis. I like doing that type, but i dont play WH and dnd pieces are expensive and so i havent. However, i did get an owlbear in a set of paints, so i do have an owlbear. And i made some pieces for our dnd from polymer clay which are very rough and crudely painted lol. But i did just buy a little set of campfire minis for dnd when getting dnd figures for my neice & nephew. I want to try to make a mould of them before painting them though 😉.

I do have a 3d printer, but a filament one rather than a resin one. I read that resin is best for minis because of the detail at small.scale, so i have not tried any. My friend is very keen for me to try printing mini props though, so i may test it out for some simple things.

Do you know what type of printer your friend has?

I am curious if they are doing it with filament. I have a Bambu. I havent printed anything for a year though, since my big project last year. I guess moving in April did that lol.

Re: Therapy types

Thanks @PeppyPatti 😊. Its something i grew up doing during school holidays as a child, spend a day visiting the plaster painting shop.

When i visited my friend with 2 young children last time, i bought some cheap ones at Coles and supervised the children for a few hours teaching them about mixing paint colours (and waiting for colours to dry before painting over them lol) whilst she took some much needed rest. 😊

I don't like babysitting young children - but craft with children is fine! I just dont like the imaginary play or very young child talk lol. Im better with teens who can have adult conversations lol.

Re: Therapy types

@AlwaysMyself I had to google it but by the looks, he had the filament one!! He'd sand off some of the ridges I think, and some pieces he'd have to do separately and glue together.

Awww owl bears are SO CUTE!! Have you seen the D&D movie by any chance? I thought it was really good haha pretty on point for how chaotic and ridiculous games can get 😋

Re: Therapy types

I watched the first half of the DnD movie @Jynx before having to go out somewhere, but never got around to watching the rest. 😅 Sounds like I should though? I could do with learning more of the DnD monsters, because then I have a better chance of guessing what we may encounter on adventures 😅. I have played a little of BG3 (but I'm not much of a video gamer) so I know a few from there, but often don't recall their names lol. Because i do DnD in Auslan we invent sign-names for monsters so we don't have to spell it out all the time, so I still don't know the monsters names even when we meet them lol. Other than generic words like "goblin", "orc", etc. For example, we call the "Nothic" an "eye monster" because it was first described to us as having 1 eye, so that's what we dubbed it 😅. I had to google "Dnd monster with one eye" to find its name 😉.

My friend want more DnD minis, so maybe I will experiment with printing some in the new year once I'm less tired & not working. Would need to find some non-detailed versions I think, I like your friend's idea of gluing together pieces if they're too fine/fiddly to print with filament normally. 🤔. I do have war-hammer plastic glue from other projects...
