Feeling caged up

Feeling caged up

The recent medication changes has calmed my brain down. I’m still feeling caged up, I know my psych is looking at more frequent therapy sessions if we can get more under ED plan. Once a month sessions aren’t enough. It just feels like the traumatic memories aren’t ending, I’ve been in therapy for years. It’s taking so long to heal. I just want to get to the point the body flashbacks aren’t so regular

Re: Feeling caged up

I like to eat at 6-6.30am, 12-12.30pm and between 5-6pm. I get hungry and get the shakes if I don’t eat.

My mum had really bad bipolar and my father had Generalized Anxiety Disorder and depression. My mum was really horrible when she was sick. I remember my parents having a terrible argument when I was 8. I didn’t understand what was going on then. And my teenage years were very difficult. I told my psychologist about this yesterday. But we mostly talk about my fight with my sister and the nature of our relationship.

I hope your day is going ok. Did you do your workout? I went for a walk as usual and watered plants under eaves as well as checking to see that more seeds have germinated.

Re: Feeling caged up

@GezzaP I get lightheaded if I don’t eat, it’s bad for migraines. With my migraines and stomach issues I eat 5 smaller meals instead of 3 meals.

My mum was diagnosed with depression, but sometimes she would get agitated (I don’t think she has bipolar, but she would get pent up nervous energy). My uncle had bipolar when he was alive. My mum has gotten emotional with arguing with my dad to the point of SI. I feel like I have to tread carefully and not trigger her. I can get full blown panic attacks when I hear them arguing, but she no longer gets those bouts as often anymore. My parents love each other and they’ve always been caring, but I don’t think they know how to manage emotions. My parents at times would get too involved, I ended up developing avoidant anxious attachment style. I may seem distant, but it protects my autonomy.

I’ve had urges today and I’ve been struggling with cptsd symptoms. I can’t give in right now since I don’t have access (so I’m safe). I’m going to take a walk later today

@creative_writer What’s cpstd? Oh yes 5 small meals. I usually have a snack in the morning and the afternoon. Had banana bread this morning and has a piece of cake with my coffee at my Argentine friend’s place as well as a small fruit from her garden. It was a nice afternoon. We walked around her garden which is superb and productive. She even has a banana tree. Then she showed me the novels and stories in Spanish that she gave me to read. I enjoyed my day. The drive was fine and I was early enough coming home to beat peak hour traffic. Dropped in shops on way home.
Now sitting having a drink and catching up on forum messages. How was your day? My mum was over the top emotional. My dad the opposite.

Re: Feeling caged up

@GezzaP it's complex PTSD, it's when there have been multiple traumas compared to one life event. Sometimes I just want to be self-destructive because the pain can be overwhelming. Maybe I am reacting too much, but can't seem to get over it.

My mum has her own issues, her reactions would be huge, but probably driven by pent up emotions. My dad never knew what to do with her emotions.

Glad you had a good time with your friend. It sounds like it was an enjoyable and productive day.

I didn't get up to much today, watched some TV , used self care but had to reach out to a helpline twice.

Re: Feeling caged up

Oh @creative_writer sorry to hear you had an average day and had to reach out twice. Hope things improve for you. You should get out for a walk. It is a lovely sunny dsy here today. Bit I’m resting up after speaking Spanish for a couple of hours. Hoping it’s clear tomorrow and I can get out in the garden for the morning.

Re: Feeling caged up

Of course, it lives in the body, doesn't it? How you're feeling is perfectly understandable... I would recommend softening into sharing slowly. Listen to what feels safe. @creative_writer

And yes, absolutely. It sounds like you haven't had healthy sharing modelled for you, so it makes so much sense for that to feel really vulnerable for you. I think you are already challenging this and breaking the generational mould by sharing here and seeing your psychologist - that's a huge achievement. 💛

Re: Feeling caged up

@GezzaP I took a walk before dinner. I find I need to eat after exercising or I get lightheaded. I hope you are able to get into the garden tomorrow.

@AuntGlow it is tricky not having that role model. My parents didn’t have role models either. I will need to go slow. I need to be able to get this feeling of shame out of myself. I’ve been stuck for a very long time, healing journey hasn’t been easy. I do hope I can get better now that I have more sessions, and I’m tackling my ED. My undiagnosed ED has affected my physical and mental health over the years. Do you think I’ll ever be at peace with myself and not feel ashamed of everything I’ve experienced? It’s had a lasting effect on me, it makes me hesitate to go into a romantic relationship. I don’t even feel good enough, I feel like I have too much baggage. Maybe I want it, but there is so much I carry, I don’t want to drag someone into this mess

Re: Feeling caged up

The forecast for tomorrow sounds ok for gardening. @creative_writer I’m going to bed now because I’m really tired and there is nothing on TV. Fell asleep in chair again.

Re: Feeling caged up

@GezzaP How are you feeling after only 4 hours of sleep ? Why I'm asking is that for some, that's more than enough, whereas for others, even 12 hours is not enough! I used to suffer from insomnia terribly so if I got 4 hours, I'd be so ecstatic!

What's been happening for you today?

@creative_writer , please know i'm following your posts, but to be honest, I really don't know what to say for it to be helpful for you. Pllease know I care. I'm happy to be guided by you if you can think of how I can be more supportive and validating in a way that works for you.

Re: Feeling caged up

@GezzaP I hope you sleep better tonight.

@tyme it’s been hard, maybe bottled up emotions. It eventually has to surface. Maybe I’m more stable bipolar wise, so the mind thinks now is this time to release it. I’m just afraid of destabilising if not managed properly. I’ve already had the urges to fall back to unhelpful ways. I don’t need an addiction issue on top of everything else and my psychiatrist doesn’t think it’s good for my mental stability. I don’t even have access rn, but I know I could get it if I really wanted to. I could justify it all I wanted. It sounds bad, but I think if I could I would’ve caved in today if I could.

I will have more frequent psych sessions now to help me learn to manage it. It’s a very delicate process, monthly appointments probably wasn’t going to be appropriate for me right now. I know my psych said I won’t need to dive into details, but even diving into some of it can be painful and can bring up a lot. Recent diet changes have been hard for me, I’m feeling better physically, but it’s what I’ve turned to get that sense of control. Everything feels so messy, maybe I just need to persist with everything longer to get the results, but healing f***ing hurts.
