Feeling caged up

Feeling caged up

The recent medication changes has calmed my brain down. I’m still feeling caged up, I know my psych is looking at more frequent therapy sessions if we can get more under ED plan. Once a month sessions aren’t enough. It just feels like the traumatic memories aren’t ending, I’ve been in therapy for years. It’s taking so long to heal. I just want to get to the point the body flashbacks aren’t so regular

Re: Feeling caged up

@GezzaP I hope you sleep well tonight. It does help finding people who understand.

I’ve struggled to find those people, so I just up carrying a lot of it on my own. I rather be alone than open up and not get the support I need. This mindset has made it harder to open up to supports, so I’m trying to work on it because I might have taken it too far

Are you able to speak to the therapist to find a balance between sharing and over-sharing @creative_writer ? I wonder if the therpaist can guide you with this and provide regular check-ins to see if you are comfortable continuing?

I just want to acknowledge the huge steps you are taking as part of your recovery.

@tyme I can try to talk to my psych. She agreed we need to exercise caution due to make retraumatisation history. At the same time, I am mindful that I do need to talk about difficult topics to a certain degree.

I only slept 4 hours again @creative_writer . Hoping can go hack to sleep soon and at least get a couple more hours.

I find opening up to psychologist really helpful. They can’t help you without all the information. That’s when they can help the most if you don’t hide your feelings and troubles.

I only slept 4 hours @tyme . Slept deeply but hoping can get a couple more hours. Wide awake atm.

@GezzaP I hope you are able to get more hours of sleep in.

It’s a tricky situation, caution must be exercised to prevent retraumatisation, but I also need to talk about it to a certain degree

@creative_writer I slept for another hour so 5 hours. Waiting for 3rd painting quote to arrive. He better be on time because I need lunch before I go out. He is supposed to come at 11.30. Not ideal time for me.

Will have to put lunch on as soon as he leaves. Might not have time to do dishes after lunch as I will need a coffee.

Looking forward to seeing my friend except that I have to drive. I hate driving.

I hope you can open up at least a little bit more.

Re: Feeling caged up

I hear you @creative_writer. I have been in a similar place... and you know what, having my psych react with love and compassion helped to alleviate some of that shame. There is absolutely no rush to share, but I genuinely think it could be helpful.

Have you ever shared something with her that you were afraid to, but then she reacted kindly and with support? 💛

Re: Feeling caged up

@GezzaP do you have particular times of the day that you need to eat? I have to schedule my meals approximately around same day each day, can't rely on hunger cues due to lack of appetite.

I hope seeing your friend is worth the drive.

@AuntGlow yes I can think of times where she was supportive. I do have control over how much I do share. My last therapist (before my current psych) wasn't the best fit, and talking about it left me feeling super overwhelmed, left me second guessing myself and not feeling validated. I know my current psych is different, but trust is hard once it has been broken in the past (even if it was from a previous therapist).

I know silence breeds shame. A part of me also feels guilty because I feel like I'm not supposed to talk about it. If I went down the same path as my parents, they would never talk about their emotions openly with a therapist or with other people. I would argue my mum has a lot of unresolved issues. I am guessing I probably have other family members who have had SI in the past. Mood disorders run in my maternal side of family. I feel guilty talking about SA. It's even harder talking about trauma of growing up with a parent with significant mental health struggles and having to witness those intense emotional moments as a teenager or even as an adult
