Feeling caged up

Feeling caged up

The recent medication changes has calmed my brain down. I’m still feeling caged up, I know my psych is looking at more frequent therapy sessions if we can get more under ED plan. Once a month sessions aren’t enough. It just feels like the traumatic memories aren’t ending, I’ve been in therapy for years. It’s taking so long to heal. I just want to get to the point the body flashbacks aren’t so regular

Re: Feeling caged up

Yes let’s hope so @creative_writer . I’m hanging out for a decent night’s sleep. Staying up a bit later tonight to see if that helps. Will be heading to bed in next half hour or so I reckon. Friend just sent me an article about insomnia. It was written in Spanish but I understood it. Will try it out tonight if I wake up early again.

Re: Feeling caged up

I woke up early again and was awake for a couple of hours. Took a sleeping tablet and went back to sleep for 2 1/2 hours so 6 hours in total. So better than recently. @creative_writer
Went to chiro back didn’t hurt walking there. I did a bit of shopping and had a coffee and cake. Treatment gave me pain and a headache so the walk back wasn’t pleasant and the headache has persisted all day despite taking painkillers, so no gardening today, just a tiny amount of weeding. Oh well hopefully tomorrow. Did do a load of washing though. Been doing back exercises a lot today.

Just had a quote on painting I need done in my unit. He was an hour late - typical tradie. Wasn’t as much as I thought it might be. Getting more quotes done next week before I decide whether I can afford to do it now or not.

All depends on quotes for solar battery Wednesday. Home maintenance is expensive, but the jobs should be done eventually. Want to get solar battery while there’s a generous government rebate. Will probably have to withdraw some super to get it all done. Oh well you can’t take it with you.

How are you today? I hope you’re ok.

Re: Feeling caged up

@GezzaP everything is so expensive, breathing air is $5. I think sometimes it is wise to space work out, it feels more affordable.

I had my psych appointment today, and have my next appointment in two weeks time. My psych thinks I need more appointments since four weeks is a long time. It's been a struggling, but I am doing what I can. Trauma symptoms are probably too intense to be doing exposure therapy right now. Have to approach therapy from a different angle.

Re: Feeling caged up

@creative_writer Yes I will have to space jobs out. Mostly want to take advantage of solar battery rebate. Painting can wait if necessary.

Oh how did the psych appt go? Take it gradually I suppose.
I have another one next week, so that’ll be 2 weeks since my first appt.

Psychiatrist calls tomorrow and I see GP too. If I sleep ok and my back stops giving me a headache I will fit in some gardening tomorrow morning before see GP.

Re: Feeling caged up

@GezzaP spacing it out makes it less overwhelming.

The appointment went okay. It’s just sort of tricky, I need to heal but don’t want to be retraumatised. Too much discomfort around talking about what happened to me. It feels all sticky, can’t seem to shake the feelings off but it feels too hard to talk about it. I kept it in for so long before mentioning the nature of trauma in therapy, I felt like I was meant to. Still feel like I’m meant to bite my tongue. When I did talk about it multiple times in the past with a previous therapist, it kept me stuck on a loop and retraumatised me. I used to feel the body flashbacks so strongly that I wanted to take my life. I don’t get SI regularly anymore even though my flashbacks are pretty regular, but it is still torture. It’s why my psych wants to focus on goals, sitting with pain and finding ways to manage emotions. Opening a can of worms may just destabilise me right now.

I hope the appointments provide you with the support you need 💖

Re: Feeling caged up

@creative_writer Oh no retraumatising that must be tough. Glad to hear you don’t get SI anymore but must be really hard. Hope you can find a way through.

I had no dramas with my first psych appt. Hopefully that continues. I wouldn’t say I have experienced trauma. More anxiety and the bipolar symptoms. Have had SI on occasions but this is mostly an overreaction that I get over once I calm down a bit.

Really hope you are ok. I am trying to stay awake longer again tonight but getting very tired now. Want to do my back exercises again before going to bed.

Re: Feeling caged up

@GezzaP not everyone experiences the big traumas, but I do believe everyone experiences the small traumas (stressful events). Even those small ones can affect anxiety and bipolar symptoms, therapy can help.

I wasn’t sexually assaulted till I was an adult. I never had emotional support growing up (hence my hyperindependence), spent years being bullied for being too different, my mum had her own mental health which was difficult. My parents didn’t know how to emotionally support me. At times my mum would become suicidal (but she would never go through with it). I still get anxious when my parents argue. There was also extended family drama, in a way we were lucky with the distance, but it still had a significant impact on our lives. Once you have one poison branch, it poisons the rest of the tree.

I don’t think SI is an overreaction, it’s an indication that we are struggling to cope with our limited resources.

Re: Feeling caged up

My parents had problems too with mental illnesses @creative_writer we were neglected in our teens. I’m very independent too. My sister blames me for my mental illness and says si is selfish. So that’s tough and she can be very bullying and cruel. I guess that is traumatic. SI is a plea for help but for me I soon get over it. For me it is an emotional reaction that I get over.

Fell asleep in the armchair headed for bed now.
