Sane Tour De Aus!

Sane Tour De Aus!

@AlwaysMyself

Here is a thread where we can support each other to use our mini cycles.

I plan to watch tv while I do it. I might put some of the big world’s cycling races on the telly on SBS on demand while I do it. I need to decide how often I want to try and use it.

Re: Sane Tour De Aus!

I dont feel better after exercise either @Oaktree . Never have. And I dont feel more energised after either - just tired

But im still doing my 5min cycle. Doing it while reading forum replies is a good multi-task currently. 😋 I dont have to cycle fast, I just have to keep the legs moving.

I hope your psych appt went well today.

Day 12 Tour de Aus

I got my cycling done pretty early this morning. Was watching a doco on the food industry while I did it. It was about the addictive nature of ultra processed foods.

The wheels have firmly fallen off my professional cycling career. I've skipped since 8th August

I've still been walking an hour at dawn. Which is the main thing, but doesn't help my bung knee

Don’t punish yourself, show yourself a bit of compassion and just jump back in when you feel like it. It doesn’t have to be all or nothing

@Oaktree @AlwaysMyself @DogMan79 how is everyone?

I too have had a lapse and missed a few days but I'm trying to establish a time when I can just spend 5 minutes each day/evening cycling.

As Always knows I've been suffering from lack of motivation and trying to get myself up and about is difficult. If I'm at my desk I usually remember to cycle but otherwise I think I need to set a reminder.

Happy hump day, it's all downhill from here lol!

🥰

@AlwaysMyself thanks for the info on Borzois. I never knew they were related to the greyhound but having had a look at them I can see the resemblance. They are just gorgeous!

And I understand the need for privacy so I will picture them in my mind.

If I did get another dog I was looking at a greyhound but it's difficult getting one that is cat friendly. I belong to a Greyhound advocacy group that is trying to put an end to greyhound racing in Australia. Tasmania has banned it just recently, I only hope there's of the country follows suit.

Are Borzois the same in temperament as the hounds? I keep looking at photos of them, they are gorgeous! I love their face!

Re: Sane Tour De Aus!

@DogMan79 tbh, walking is just as good as cycling in terms of doing a little but of exercise. Its just what type of exercise works best for who.

I have knee arthritis/degen too, so cycling and swimming/aqua is less painful (non-weightbearing) than walking for me too. But walking is less accessible for me than 5min of cycle seated on the couch 🤣😅.

@Oaktree well done!

I've been doing my 5min each day; I deliberately did it as soon as I got home last night because I knew I would not want to do it later 🤣🤣 so I made myself "get it out of the way" before relaxing lol. Im glad I did because yep I didnt want to do anything later in the evening 🤣.

@ENKELI is your motivation getting any easier?

I find the reminders on this thread really helpful 😊 i did forget one day though because I didnt check the forum until I was already snuggly in bed 😋.

Borzoi temperament are quite similar to greyhounds - they like short zoomies and to sleep a lot. Borzoi have a reputation for being "aloof" and whilst loyal to their owners, not interested in strangers. However my Borzoi are not at all that way - mine are very friendly and love 1) dogs and 2) people (in that order, based on what distracts them most lol) - my purebred was deliberately bred for both health/physical and also for friendly nature. 🥰 I haven't much this year, but I like to take them on my city's local Greyhound group walks. I joke my dogs just think they are furry greyhounds too. Most of the greyhounds accept them - even ones that dont like anything other than a greyhound (usually because they never saw anything else during their racing years), but sometimes a new greyhound will be wary for the first few walks and just keep our distance.

My Borzoi love to chase for fun play, but dont seem to have a prey drive. They have met a few cats now, and one is mostly disinterested whilst the other is fascinated to sniff but not to eat. Likewise with chickens, they just want to sniff them (through a fence/cage). Wild rabbits they like to watch, but dont try to go to. Kangaroos they used to watch and now are so used to they ignore 🤣. Wombats... they are less common, but when we had a regular one my first borzoi got so used to it that it ignored it lol. Possums in trees they dont even seem to notice?! So much for a sighthound. 😉 pretty much if it doesnt move they dont notice it lol.

Im mixed on greyhound racing. I dont like how most racing greys are kept and bred. However I do know 1 person who breeds and races a few of her own greyhounds, and they all live in the house as pets too, so that chanced my perspective a little too. Her dogs arent forced to race, but they enjoy it and they take good care of their physical health. Her dog does win semi-regularly, but if they dont win she doesnt mind either. However the sad reality is that that is not the majority of racing owners 😪. So maybe they need to de-monetise it, and just have it as a dog sport like flyball or luring, etc.

Re: Sane Tour De Aus!

@AlwaysMyself I know there are a lot of trainers who treat their dogs well. One of the girls I used to work with had a partner who was a trainer and the dogs were well looked after.

The problem is that the dogs aren't treated well on the track. In 2025 there has already been 81 deaths and 6680 injuries in Australia. And we're only in August.

The design of the track causes hock fractures, a lot of dogs spend 23.5 hours a day in a crate with half an hour to race. Even if there was only one injury or death a year, it's still one too many.

When I was looking into getting a rescue "Goggie" as I call them, there was only 1 foster carer who did cat testing. Her cat was extremely laid back and didn't put up with any shenanigans from the dogs so I knew it would be a long wait before I was able to get a cat friendly Goggie. Also I had to consider the ongoing cost as the majority of the rescues have a lot of issues. One of my friends rescued her 2 hounds from Macau and the female had a piece of metal embedded into her jaw. The vet suspected that it was from chewing on her crate due to boredom. Her dental bill was more than my total vet bill for my border collie who lived to 13. My friend was basically working to pay the vet bills she would laughingly say.

Your doggoes are just delish! I love them! Long haired greyhounds! Have you always loved the breed? They really are so majestic aren't they?

Oh and to get back on topic ha ha ha I did 5 minutes today. Finally back on track!
