Well done @ENKELI ! Back on that horse! (Or miniature horse as I call Borzois?) I did my 5min today when I got home again too, before allowing myself to dinner and chill. And I actually did it a little more vigorous than usual which is good - but not a requirement for me lol.
Cat-testing foster is really important, but yeah depends on a foster having a cat that is good with dogs. 🙂 the 2 cats mine have met are both used to dogs and will stand up for themselves. My 2 bailed one into a corner (out of interested "what is that?") And the cat hissed or warned them and the dogs ran away 😅. I hope you can get a Goggie that is cat friendly. 🙂 i know a few of them come up in my area from time to time, but yeah I also see people semi regularly posting asking about if ones are cat friendly and sometimes people asking if any can be because of the hunting/chasing reputation of hounds generally.
Breaks my heart to see dogs kept cooped up for hours on end. 😭 I feel bad if I leave my dogs alone and free-roaming the house for more than 8 hours (work day), even though I know they mostly sleep.
Pet insurance is a good idea. I got it for my rescue because I thought he might have medical issues due to his neglect. I now have it for both dogs because the purebred is a clueless clutz sometimes and would be quite possible to hurt herself doing zoomies or something silly. My 2 friends who have/had greys haven't had big vet bills; one did have some dental costs for his in their last 2 years of life. I often hear of dental work and sometimes corns on the group page. My rescue boy has Pannus, and that is not common in borzoi but is more common in greyhounds so I knew what it was from the grey group which helped. Its not expensive to treat though, thankfully.
I first met a friend's Borzoi in 2017-2018, and thought it looked like a horse (face). But I liked its size and placid sleepy nature. When I was ready to get a dog with my partner we wanted a sighthound (for the sleepy nature), but were thinking of a whippet due to size. But its not common to see whippets available for rescue, but through that we saw this little of borzoi-cross which were expected to be large-whippet size (malnutrition), so we thought that could be perfect. The while litter grew so much once they were rescued and got food in rehab 🤣 and now he is full greyhound size lol.
In hindsight, im glad we didnt get a whippet because I have since learned that the smaller the sighthound (generally) the more crazy and energetic they are haha. So a greyhound would have suited us better than a whippet! 🤣
Borzoi are quite regal in how they sit and look at people. 😅 its like they know they were popular with the Russian royalty?? Lol.
But they can do the same great side-eye that Greys do too 🤣
