Spud Buds!

Spud Buds!

Potato is life!!

Hiya Forums Pals!! By popular request (care of several superstar attendees in one of our mental health recovery groups, and a cracker of an ice breaker), this space is for all lovers of potatoes, and all their glorious forms!!

We ask now the whole forums community to join us in our admiration of this fine root vegetable. But, this may split the community asunder as we discuss....

What do you think is the superior form of the humble potato?

Is it the classic hash brown? The noble potato gem? Or the oft-overlooked mash? Maybe something obscure, like gnocchi?

Let us know gang!!

Re: Spud Buds!

@ale_inmelb What do you think makes a good potato dish? Does it need to feature the potato as the star, or can the potato be a side character?

Re: Spud Buds!

@0ddsidian regardless the potato dish, cheese always makes it better, along with some type of salt

Re: Spud Buds!

OMG @Former-Member! Potato and cheese is probably the best combination I have ever come across. Although I'm not even trying to think of any other combinations because that one makes me so hungry 🙃

Almost tempted to make a thread about cheese as well...

Re: Spud Buds!

@0ddsidian omg yes cheese!!! have you heard of a Norwegian cheese called brunost or ski queen? I think it’s sometimes called gjetost as well, it literally tastes like smoky caramel fudge 😱 I was blown away the first time I tried it and now it’s one of my favourites

You're making me crave this cheese that I've got no idea about @lonemushroom !

Re: Spud Buds!

Ooooooo! I haven't heard of that @lonemushroom. Is it just sweet or is it one of those sweet / salty combos? I'm wondering if it could be compared to cheesecake? (not me Googling "brunost in Australia" on my work laptop 🙃)

Re: Spud Buds!

@0ddsidian @tyme it definitely is a sweet and salty combo but a bit more sweet than salty I’d say! it’s such a struggle to try and find in australia but I’ve seen it in a few european deli/grocery places before. I know harris farm pretty much always have it and I remember it being way more available in melbourne than anywhere else I’ve seen tbh

it goes so well with both sweet and savoury, I’ve had it on waffles before and in desserts and with fruit also. and yes, it’s even great with spuds!!!
