Spud Buds!

Spud Buds!

Potato is life!!

Hiya Forums Pals!! By popular request (care of several superstar attendees in one of our mental health recovery groups, and a cracker of an ice breaker), this space is for all lovers of potatoes, and all their glorious forms!!

We ask now the whole forums community to join us in our admiration of this fine root vegetable. But, this may split the community asunder as we discuss....

What do you think is the superior form of the humble potato?

Is it the classic hash brown? The noble potato gem? Or the oft-overlooked mash? Maybe something obscure, like gnocchi?

Let us know gang!!

Re: Spud Buds!

I just saw a Reddit thread that mentioned Queen Vic Market sometimes has it, @lonemushroom, so that could be an option for me 🤔 We love an adaptable cheese. Keen to see if I can find it and try it in multiple combinations, especially potatoes!

nicola and sebago are great. I use hugelkultur to row mine in gentle sun rays. It’s minus 6 right now so expecting to plant in spring. Do you cut the potato or do you plant the seeded tates as is?

Re: Spud Buds!

I love this! For three years my Chinese friend and I would take time out when things got hectic to talk about potatoes. If anything or anyone was worrying her I would encourage her to write a “potato letter”. This could be a SMS, email or spoken out loud. I would give her my full attention. This works as a technique so she does not get depressed or overwhelmed by things she cannot control as she is ASD like me. This was also an act of listening on my part which I am not very good at. A potato letter equaled acknowledgment and validation. I am now a member of spud buds to expand the wonders of potato. I will be planting my own in the spring. Feel free to reach out to me for more potato letters.

Your random potato tip of the day! Whenever I do baked tatos, I actually peel & boil first - NOT till soft, but just before. Then, drain the water, chuck the lid on, and SHAKE THE WHOLE POT! It roughs up the edges of the tatos so that when you bake em (drizzled in oil and salt, plus rosemary/pepper/garlic as desired) they end up SO CRISPY on the outside, and soft and fluffy inside!! Enjoy!

Re: Spud Buds!

My mum planted some spuds. She put some blood and bone into a hole then put a potato in there. It's the bleakest of winter with consecutive days with tops of 6 degrees so probably amibitious to plant so early. I'll let you know what happens. 🙂

Re: Spud Buds!

@Jynx oh honey! Thank you so much for your tip, I am definitely doing that instead of the boring way I do them! I do par boil like you, but roughing them up and adding the extra flavours....makes me want roast taties now! 🥔
