Thank you for sharing your experience @Zoe7 it sounds like a really difficult situation.
I wonder if something was happening with your GP, like she was diagnosed with cancer or some other major medical problem, or something happened within the practice and she suddenly thought she had to leave, hence the lack of notice.
I know that doesn’t take away how the patients feel. I would be pretty devastated if my GP left. I have even thought before, I’m glad she is younger than me, so she’ll be around for a while, but of course that might not necessarily be so.
It also seems like you had to wait a long time to find a new GP, which to me, sounds like an awful situation.
I think, for me, if the psych was leaving the practice I would feel not so bad, I would still have the lost feeling, but not the it must be my fault feeling. However, that is not what’s happening it’s only me she is stopping seeing. She is staying at the practice, so I think it’s something to do with me.
I don’t have a psychiatrist. Haven’t had one for more than 30 years. Now my cancer treatments are finished I only see the psych and my GP. My GP is good and she prescribes any meds. I haven’t seen her for nearly three months, since before I went away on my trip.
I do see someone for this medical problem I have, but now that’s not regular and in fact I don’t have a follow-up appointment at that hospital clinic now. I haven’t seen them since beginning of year when I had follow-up scans and it had only minimally progressed, so nothing changed as far as treatment. So my psych was my most regular health care provider really.
With the forums, I definitely miss chatting to some people I feel I have gotten to know. So I am really in two minds whether to continue. I do really appreciate your support in this though, so really thanks so much for your posts.
