Functioning with ADHD

Functioning with ADHD

How do people function while living with ADHD? I’m pretty much non-functional, it’s taking a toil on my mental health, I’m stuck in constant rumination. I try to look for a reasonable solution, but I see the unreasonable

Re: Functioning with ADHD

@AuntGlow might try a cuppa. I know I’m supposed to be having more regular meals (for migraines), but it’s just hard for me. I don’t eat between lunch and dinner anymore. The very least I can do is drink something.

I’ve done safe place visualisation and the soothing light one. I haven’t done manifestation type journaling, not familiar with it . I feel like I need to comfort my inner child.

I’m feeling a bit better, sort of having cravings rn (the not good ones). Do cravings ever disappear?

A cuppa sounds lovely; some water will help heaps too. Maybe a little nibble of something small could help? Do you have a favourite snack? I like Bliss Balls! @creative_writer

How was the visualisation for you? Did it help at all?

And the manifestation one could be good to tap into what could be, that sense of lightness, wonder, hope, creation. Your mind might want to push back against it, but that's okay, we can just bring some loving awareness to that voice and see what it needs to feel soothed.

It's a process (I am still working on it too).

I shall check in on Sunday. 💗

Re: Functioning with ADHD

@AuntGlow the cravings aren’t food related. However, eating might help with mood, I’m having dinner rn. It can be hard to resist urges/cravings that will help me feel better in the short term. I know it’s not a healthy way to cope. I’m resisting right now, but it is exhausting.

Visualising a young version of me and comforting that part of me helped. I will read up on manifestation. Will let you know how I go 💖

These stupid urges. Why won’t they leave? I’ve tried distracting but they keep coming back. Why am I so impatient to feel better?

Re: Functioning with ADHD

Does distraction make the urges "go away"? Or does it just silence them for a bit? I wonder if its about doing something differently as opposed to 'trying harder'? @creative_writer

Sorry to hear how hard things are for you.

What did you get up to today?

Re: Functioning with ADHD

@tyme distraction silences them for a bit. It’s been a bit of an emotional unravel today after being triggered. I want apologies from those who will never apologise and will never show any remorse. I’m migrainey too, and I just realised. I’ve been too angry to even notice the physical pain.

Might need to do breathing and grounding. I can’t think rn, I just want to escape (hence urges/cravings). Maybe I need to slow down.

I didn’t do much today, worked on resume and cover letter, that kind of stuff. I watched some TV (that’s how I got triggered). Did other regular self care stuff. I don’t feel like I achieved much, but it’s also not like I didn’t do anything today

Re: Functioning with ADHD

I was just about to ask whether grounding would help @creative_writer . What sort of grounding exercises work for you? Any in particular?

For me, I find the breathing exercises and the 5 senses exercises to be most helpful.

It's good to hear you still practiced self-care today.

To be honest, I don't feel I achieved much today, but it's not like I didn't do anything either!

I hear you. Hugs

Re: Functioning with ADHD

@tyme five senses can help. Breathing exercises are also work for me.

Hopefully my nervous system settles by tomorrow. I’m going to take my meds and have some dark choco.

I have some bloods to do in the morning and will try to take a shower tomorrow. I feel like I’ve been doing test after test lately, but whatever needs to be done for health, needs to be done. Not sure if I’ll achieve much else, I’m just too tired and need some downtime

Hey hun @creative_writer , any level of acheivement is an achievement.

I guess it's good to have your health sorted out before a new job. Do you have any interviews or anything?

What you wrote the other day has really stuck with me. That is, "Peopel think I'm fragile, but I'm not. I'm capable" [paraphrased]

Thank you
